Re: captions in longtables / input in lyx
Dear Juergen, Well, now I'm having some time to come back to the caption / longtables thread from November. I finally found a kludge to get the stuff working right. One can enter the caption as ERT in the header and firstheader row. I don't like the solution to implement this feature. I don't want text input fields for this type of stuff. The text should be inputed directly in the tabular (as then one has all option open regarding fonts etc.). But the point you mention is one of the source of the problems: if I enter the following block (newlines compressed): 1 cell 2 \begin_inset Text 3 \layout Standard 4 \begin_inset ERT 5 status Collapsed 6 \layout Standard 7 \backslash 8 caption[lot-text]{caption-text} 9 \backslash 10 \backslash 11 \end_inset 12 \size scriptsize 13 column1 14 \end_inset 15 /cell I get the desired latex output but if line 12 directly follows line 3 the backend produces latex-code with errors. (See the tho attached test files.) The appeareance of captions etc. is not controlled by the options in the table environment. It uses special packages like caption or caption2. Maybe the problem can easily be fixed by small modifications of the latex-code generator. [ANNOUNCE] LyX 1.2.3 is released
Public release of LyX version 1.2.3 === We are glad to announce the release of LyX 1.2.3. LyX 1.2.3 is a maintenance release. It mainly fixes a very bad bug where configuring LyX as root could lead to deleting the /dev/null special device (this does not impact users of prebuilt binaries). Also, a bug where LyX would create zombie processes has been fixed. In case you are wondering what LyX is, here is what http://www.lyx.org/ has to say on the subject: LyX is an advanced open source document processor that encourages an approach to writing based on the structure of your documents, not their appearance. LyX lets you concentrate on writing, leaving details of visual layout to the software. LyX runs on many Unix platforms (including MacOS X), OS/2, and under Windows/Cygwin. Note that all these ports use the same xforms interface and therefore need an X server. The main LyX site is ftp://ftp.lyx.org/pub/lyx/ with mirrors at ftp://ftp.sdsc.edu/pub/other/lyx/ ftp://ftp.lip6.fr/pub/lyx/ ftp://gd.tuwien.ac.at/publishing/tex/lyx/ ftp://ftp.ntua.gr/pub/X11/LyX/ ftp://ftp.icm.edu.pl/vol/rzm0/lyx/ You can download LyX 1.2.3 here : ftp://ftp.lyx.org/pub/lyx/stable/lyx-1.2.3.tar.gz ftp://ftp.devel.lyx.org/pub/lyx/lyx-1.2.3.tar.gz Prebuild binaries (mainly rpms for linux distributions) should soon be available at ftp://ftp.lyx.org/pub/lyx/bin/1.2.3 If you already have LyX 1.2.2 sources, you may want to apply the following patch instead ftp://ftp.lyx.org/pub/lyx/stable/patch-1.2.3.gz If you find what you think is a bug in LyX 1.2.3, you may either e-mail the LyX user's mailing list ([EMAIL PROTECTED]), or open a bug report at http://bugzilla.lyx.org If you're having trouble using the new version of LyX, or have a question, first check out http://www.lyx.org/help/, and e-mail the LyX user's list if you can't find an answer there. Enjoy! The LyX team. What's new == ** Updates - updated italian User Guide - updated french localization ** Bug fixes - fix bug where the configure script would try to delete the /dev/null device when there has been an error in configuration step - fix bug where autosaving would leave a lot of zombie processes after a long time - fix problem where it was not possible to force some values to 0 in custom margins - fix bug where horizontal alignment would be reset automatically to left in the tabular dialog - fix functions word-find-forward and word-find-backward, the meanings of which were inverted - when the lyx binary was invoked through a symbolic link, LyX would print annoying messages on the console; they are now output only when debugging. - fix an installation issue with solaris

Theorem environments
Hello, some time ago, I have extended class Article (KomaScript) to handle theorems and definitions (see attachment). The patch works fine for private use but it is limited and I don't really understand each and every detail. But as it seems to be very easy to add new theorem environments to an existing TeX class, I am wondering whether we can define a set of standard theorem environments that are included in many more classes in generic way. CJK-LyX-1.2.3
Hello, It seems that I have forgotten to make an anouncement for the CJK-LyX-1.2.2. So, this time I take no time to make the one for the CJK-LyX-1.2.3; I have just uploaded the CJK-LyX-1.2.3 on the usual ftp site, ftp://stone.phys.pusan.ac.kr/pub/CJK-LyX . CJK-LyX-1.2.3 is the unofficial patched version of lyx-1.2.3 for Chinese, Japanese and Korean language users. It is worth noticing that from this version (actually from 1.2.2) on, you can display CJK-letters without using lyxstring. That is, you can compile CJK-LyX with or without lyxstring. You can find and replace CJK-letters with CJK-LyX-menu, too. --cghan

I don't want > text input fields for this type of stuff. The text should be inputed > directly in the tabular (as then one has all option open regarding > fonts etc.). > But the point you mention is one of the source of the problems: if I enter the following block (newlines compressed): 1 2 \begin_inset Text 3 \layout Standard 4 \begin_inset ERT 5 status Collapsed 6 \layout Standard 7 \backslash 8 caption[lot-text]{caption-text} 9 \backslash 10 \backslash 11 \end_inset 12 \size scriptsize 13 column1 14 \end_inset 15 I get the desired latex output but if line 12 directly follows line 3 the backend produces latex-code with errors.
What's new == ** Updates - updated italian User Guide - updated french localization ** Bug fixes - fix bug where the configure script would try to delete the /dev/null device when there has been an error in configuration step - fix bug where autosaving would leave a lot of zombie processes after a long time - fix problem where it was not possible to force some values to 0 in custom margins - fix bug where horizontal alignment would be reset automatically to "left" in the tabular dialog - fix functions word-find-forward and word-find-backward, the meanings of which were inverted - when the lyx binary was invoked through a symbolic link, LyX would print annoying messages on the console; they are now output only when debugging. - fix an installation issue with solaris

Theorem environments
Hello, some time ago, I have extended class "Article (KomaScript)" to handle theorems and definitions (see attachment). The patch works fine for private use but it is limited and I don't really understand each and every detail. But as it seems to be very easy to add new theorem environments to an existing TeX class, I am wondering whether we can define a set of "standard" theorem environments that are included in many more classes in generic way. Is that possible? Re: [Bug 809] LyX resets document class if the TeX class is missing
Hello, could some expert please explain why LyX has to reset the document class if the corresponding TeX class is missing? I don't understand this necessity. See also: http://bugzilla.lyx.org/show_bug.cgi?id=809 Thanks in advance, Michael

It is worth noticing that from this version (actually from 1.2.2) on, you can display CJK-letters without using "lyxstring". That is, you can compile CJK-LyX with or without "lyxstring". You can "find and replace" CJK-letters with CJK-LyX-menu, too. --cghan
