edit ERT insets with external editor?
Dear LyX developers Would it be a good idea to allow users to edit ERT insets with an external editor? I am thinking of something similar to: 1. Have a Edit with external editor entry to the ERT inset context menu 2. When activated, LyX would export the current contents of the ERT inset to a temporary file, and open it with a (pre-defined) text editor 3. When the user finishes editing the ERT code externally, saves the temporary file and closes the editor, LyX automatically imports the contents of the file in the ERT inset (if feasible) or the user manually activates a Refresh inset context-menu entry Such a feature should be useful to users that make heavy use of LaTeX code in their documents. Personally I would use it for editing R code in Sweave documents: when the code gets too complex, it is unbearable to edit it in the ERT insets (no syntax highlighting, matching braces, easy indentation, etc.). Goodbye, and thanks for all the fish
Hi folks, After Hartmut's goodbye message I have been doing some thinking, and I am also leaving the list. Following development of LyX 2.0 is not in my priorities, and I am not getting help from LyX developers any more as in the beginning. So (although I'm not yet 65 years old) I have decided to unsubscribe from the list, effective now. eLyXer will of course continue to be developed: there are many exciting milestones in the future (MathJax, math macros, split HTML pages) and I still have lots of fun developing it. And of course I still need decent HTML output. But I will not monitor the lyx-devel list any more, so if you want my input please include the eLyXer list (preferred): elyxer-us...@nongnu.org (the volume does not warrant a separate dev list), or me: ely...@gmail.com. I will continue to monitor the lyx-users list for mentions of eLyXer, and from now on announce new releases there. I felt it was fair to let you know. Thanks! Alex.

edit ERT insets with external editor?
Dear LyX developers Would it be a good idea to allow users to edit ERT insets with an external editor? I am thinking of something similar to: 1. Have a "Edit with external editor" entry to the ERT inset context menu 2. When activated, LyX would export the current contents of the ERT inset to a temporary file, and open it with a (pre-defined) text editor 3. When the user finishes editing the ERT code externally, saves the temporary file and closes the editor, LyX automatically imports the contents of the file in the ERT inset (if feasible) or the user manually activates a "Refresh inset" context-menu entry Such a feature should be useful to users that make heavy use of LaTeX code in their documents. Personally I would use it for editing R code in Sweave documents: when the code gets too complex, it is unbearable to edit it in the ERT insets (no syntax highlighting, matching braces, easy indentation, etc.). Re: There exists a win version of LyX 2.0
I expect a first Win version for alpha 2. For me it turned out that alpha 1 was too buggy, that's why I haven't released a Win installer for it. ? Vincent

Thanks! Alex.

Re: about lyx 2.0.0 alpha 1
Marcelo Acuña schreef: Hello, I am very happy with this new leap of development. I remained pleasingly surprised by the new added features. In this alpha version I noted that: 1) the fact that outline is open when I close lyx is forgotten for the next run. Yes, we know this. I probably fix this as soon as I come to it ;)... Thanks, Vincent (Please don't send the same mail to both lists at once.)

I guess you're using the LyX-2.0.0alpha1.dmg I build on Snow Leopard. You're right, no aspell support :( I didn't read carefully enough this part of configure output: checking aspell.h usability... yes checking aspell.h presence... yes checking for aspell.h... yes checking for new_aspell_config in -laspell... no checking whether to use aspell... no So I looked for the reason and found that configure detected the headers of aspell but did not find the library. When trying to improve the situation I learned that my "universal" aspell library from macports is like that: % file /opt/local/lib/libaspell.dylib /opt/local/lib/libaspell.dylib: Mach-O universal binary with 2 architectures /opt/local/lib/libaspell.dylib (for architecture x86_64): Mach-O 64-bit dynamically linked shared library x86_64 /opt/local/lib/libaspell.dylib (for architecture i386): Mach-O dynamically linked shared library i386 So in fact I cannot build a ppc version of LyX with aspell now. I'll see what I can do... Stephan

Why is having a label over 2 lines ugly? Qt supports this and also many other applications have this. Moreover the font dialog look OK to me. In fact it's only a matter of taste, isn't it? What do others think? regards Uwe
