 people are as ignorant of these rules as anybody else, but the rules are
 actually quite sensible.

 Anyway, in the UserGuide under Section 3.4.3, you have an example with a
 table, and the example shows a diagram with Vertical Space (0.3cm) — note
 that the quantity in parentheses definitely should be 0.3 cm and not
 0.3cm.

Unfortunately that won't work. As soon as you send anything to a
mailing list, it's pretty much definitive and it gets archived
throughout the internet (including the address that you mentioned). I
don't see it as a realistic endeavour to try to remove all such
references, and this very email will make many other people learn your
real name (in a way, the Streisand effect:

nothing LyX can do about that..

bother with an on-line automatic translator). Also, the proper list
for such questions is lyx-users.

Other than this I'm not sure what would generate your compilation
issue. We would need to know your LyX and LaTeX versions. Perhaps try
to compile to PS/PDF instead of DVI.

steep learning curve, which at times can seem quite daunting. I am not
part of the docs team, but I can give you some pointers. See below.

I am not sure what you mean: The manuals are easy to navigate. When
you open a manual (Intro), in LyX do Document  Outline which will
pop-up the outliner for you. Use it to get an overview of the document
and quickly jump sections. Alternatively compile the document using
View  View PDF (pdflatex) and use your PDF viewer's integrated Index
or Outline feature. In both LyX and most PDF viewers you can easily
search for any given keyword.


 That is: important informations should be easier to find and not be mixed 
 with uimportant stuff. Its

LaTeX is a complex beast: How can we guess what is important to one
user but not to another one. If you are interested in Linguistics you
are likely to skip the Math manual. And vice-versa. And LaTeX is
littered with specific use-cases, which is why the documentation is so
fragmented.

helpful reply.
Please do not post big attachments on public mailing lists. A ~1MB PDF
file is a big attachment.
If you want us to be able to help you please post a _small_ example of
your .lyx file. This will show us what you've already managed to do
and will help us more easily come up with a solution.

My rusty (and highly intuitive) grasp of Spanish was sufficient to
understand most of it, but a translation service can always help [1].
The essence of the issue was:
- The cover art has no numbering

 If you look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Optimality_theory for
 inspiration you will see that English and German uses the French Tableau
 but for example the Dutch page uses Tabel which I assume is straight
 translation of the English Table.

I just checked and the Russian entry doesn't display anything with
таб in it. In any case, 'tableau' might work for English or even
Romanian, but cannot for Russian. For the latter, some native solution
is required.

I can confirm that clicking the TOC doesn't bring up Outline, but I

 I've finally reviewed, simplified and updated the lettre.layout file
 and the modelettre.lyx template which implement (almost) completely
 the class lettre.cls, hopefully for inclusion in LyX-1.6.8.

 The styles are in English, I tried to minimize the number of new strings
 to be translated, but there are some. I recreated the pot file after svn up,
 merged with the current fr.po and updated it
 (I don't know if the pot creation file should be done directely on svn,
 and the update of po file should be made after svn up).

 I'm going to send the three files via po-updates.

Dear devels,

I encountered a couple of blockers when trying to edit the latest
version (as of today) of the ro.po file (revision 25173). Although I
have no experience in dealing with translation files, the encoding
seems badly messed up. Most programs that I usually use (Geany,
Bluefish, emelFM2 internal editor) all fail decrypting and displaying
the Romanian characters correctly. The file contains the following
lines:
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-2\n
Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit\n

I was happily surprised that Meld managed to correctly read the file,
and save it using UTF-8. The reencoded file has the following lines (I
manually replaced ISO-8859-2 with UTF-8):
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8\n
Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit\n

Having discussed the issue with the current maintainer, Marius
Ionescu, we decided that it was OK to switch to the (pure) UTF-8
encoded ro.po [1]. (I zipped the file so as to make it uploadable.)
Could someone having the appropriate permissions to trunk please
replace the current ro.po with the re-encoded file?
