   2) The ability to have the comment appear in

This ability needs to controllable on an individual

   3) The ability to go to prev/next comment. Thus if someone
has marked up my paper with comments I would like to
be able to go through them one at a time. I would want
to be able to program a key to do this.
   4) I personally wouldn't want them printed as happens with
margin comments. Personal tastes may vary here.
I suppose this could be controllable too.
5) Note that a Note comment cannot be used here because

Note, that almost all would be solved, if a Note would allow math etc. (I
darkly remember, that there was something like open/close all for floats +
the ability to toggle this by clicking) ...

So my suggestion would be to make the note box more like a footnote box:
i.e. it should not open a separate window but an inset (like floats, errors,
ert-inset, and footnotes) and should (as a footnote or a comment) allow all the
lyx-stuff like math, figures ...

The difference to the Comment paragraph style would be like the one between
LaTeX paragraph and ERT-inset (+ the Go To Note menu entry in the
Navigate menu).

Normal keybindings would work (xforms and KDE don't work well together,
therefore my Del key does BS in all popup-windows, which sometimes is
anoying.

LaTeX export should also export notes (as comments, may be with a leading
%Note:) (Then also optional printing is possible with the right package ...)

What do other people think of this? Would this be much work or could some
existing code be reused? Should I have posted to devel?

Times Font not on my computer !

2001-07-09 Thread Yann Le Du

Hello,

I use Lyx on my desktop, and it runs fine. But now I need to use it on my
laptop. But the problem is that when I run Lyx, and open some file, I get
notified that I don't have the Times font. I read some of the archived
mails, and succeeded in changing my default screen font to Fixed (which
looks nicer than Utopia on my laptop), but I would be very happy to know
if someone could tell me how to add the times font to my computer...

Xlsfonts tells me that I have adobe-utopia, but not times, be it in adobe
or any other kind.

So how can I install the times font and all its derivatives ? Are there
some files to download and then link to my Xserver with xset -fp ?

Thanks,

Yann

P.S. I use SUSE 7.1, both on my desktop and laptop, so I don't understand
why I don't have the Times font on my laptop, and why I have Utopia, which
should be rarer than Times...

Are you using truetype fonts? If so you can copy the files from your
desktop to your laptop. On my Redhat system they are stored in
/usr/share/fonts/ttf but I don't know where they are on SUSE.

After copying change to the font directory and run:

# ttmkfdir -o fonts.scale
# mkfontdir

Add the new fonts to the system and restart the X font server. On
RH (YMMV)

# chkfontpath -add /usr/share/fonts/ttf
# service xfs restart

You have to restart the X-Server for the new fonts to be seen.

I have never done anythigng but a little sendmail on SUSE so the above
may be a little different for your system.

If the help is in german, the menus should too. Did you install LyX or

Now, when I try to start up lyx I get the following error:

Any ideas on what this is? I just did a google search and found a

It is installed in /usr/local. The lyx.mo file is in
/usr/local/share/locale/de/LC_MESSAGES. With 1.1.5fix2 the menus were in
German, but with 1.1.6fix2 not.

Note, that almost all would be solved, if a Note would allow math etc. (I
darkly remember, that there was something like "open/close all" for floats +
the ability to toggle this by clicking) ...

So my suggestion would be to make the note box more like a footnote box:
i.e. it should not open a separate window but an inset (like floats, errors,
ert-inset, and footnotes) and should (as a footnote or a comment) allow all the
lyx-stuff like math, figures ...

The difference to the "Comment" paragraph style would be like the one between
LaTeX paragraph and ERT-inset (+ the "Go To Note" menu entry in the
Navigate menu).

Normal keybindings would work (xforms and KDE don't work well together,
therefore my key does in all popup-windows, which sometimes is
anoying.

LaTeX export should also export notes (as comments, may be with a leading
"%Note:") (Then also optional printing is possible with the right package ...)

What do other people think of this? Would this be much work or could some
existing code be reused? Should I have posted to devel?

On Mon, 9 Jul 2001, Steffen Seufert wrote:

No, i use it under SuSE-Linux-7.1.

I've done the following:
1. ./configure --prefix=/usr/local (the parameter is necessary,
otherwise two directories are not correct, although /usr/local is
   standard)
2. make
3. make install
4. after starting lyx an English message dialog appears to create
config-dir and the menus are also in English (although LANG=de_DE)

Now I avoid this problem and use a newer SuSE-RPM. With it my menus are
finally German.

Are there
some files to download and then link to my Xserver with "xset -fp" ?

Thanks,

Yann

Use a protected space, which you can get with -space, between
the words of the text you want bolded.
