references in math

2001-08-07 Thread Bas Spitters

Dear LyX-users,

I would like to do the following:
(by 1)
a = b.

Where 1 is a reference to formula 1 (with label one).
It works if I use \stackrel{\ref{one}}{=}.
But I would like to use the built-in LyX reference (Insert - Cross
reference).

Is it possible to do this?

Bas Spitters
(I am using LyX 1.1.6fix2)

No. Or not yet. Not during the code freeze anyway.

How common is this idiom that native support instead of the

Can't view dvi

2001-08-07 Thread Jim Osborn

When I select File-view dvi from the menu, lyx (1.1.5fix1)
says on the status line:
Executing command: xdvi -paper us 'xxx.dvi' (buffer view [C-d] [M-f d])

or something close, but xdvi never appears. No error messages appear
either, no errors in the lyx window. Nothing.

Back on the console where I started X I get lots of messages:
file:xxx.dvi: No such file or directory

There are no xdvi or similar processes showing on ps; nothing but lyx.
I've exited lyx and restarted it; same result. This file simply
won't view, or produce an error message in lyx! I can create and
view a new dummy file, so apparently xdvi will view some files,
just not the one I'm actually working on.

What's going on? Lyx, or something obviously doesn't like my
document, but what's wrong? Where do I start looking to fix
something? I made some simple changes to a small document that
has viewed/printed fine for months, and now this... I don't
know where to begin.

This is insane!

desirable behaviour?

2001-08-07 Thread Manuel Campos Martínez

when writting in enumerate enviroment, and you increase depth (in order to have 1.a,
1.b,..), if you press enter you return automatically to the first depth level (so,
following the numeration 2,3,...).

by example:
1. one
   (a) one-a -- if i press enter i go to previos level, and appears 2.
when ¿it would be better? going to (b) instead.
2.

I think, a better behaviour were:
1.one
   (a) one-a
   (b) one-b

Indeed, It becomes near necesary when i have three or more levels (like in 3.a.i.C)
because it's a tedious work changing the depth several times.

is it possible to change this behaviour from any menu option?

On Debian Woody (i.e. testing) there has been a similar happening for a
while (since early June, I think). I found out that the xdvi-part is a
little bit broken:

- lyx calls /usr/bin/xdvi which is a sh-script
- this script then calls xdvi.bin -binary-executable
- xdvi.bin does not exist
- nothing much happens.

There is, however, xdvi.real binary executable and I solved the problem by
creating a link xdvi.bin - xdvi.real (with command ln -s xdvi.real
xdvi.bin as root in /usr/bin directory). There may be better ways, but
this works here.
