You can make it into an adult EPS file by adding command

   prologues:=1;

to the begin of the Metapost source code.

Ok, I see. Thank you for the help. However, do you think that other
workaround could be found? I didn't want to use this workaround because
i want to use math fonts at the text in the metapost files, in this way
I can produce both ps and pdf output formats with the same math fonts
than the text. Please could you have a look at the following resulting
postscript file

http://www.iit.upco.es/~oscar/download/foo.ps

to see what I mean. The first figure is generated using prologues:=1;
and the second one doesn't have the prologues:=1; In the first figure
the \lambda is missing in the ylabel and the text of labels are text
fonts. However in the second one, all labels are math fonts. I really
need this feature of metapost files.

   Have a nice day,

  Matej

Once again thank you for your kind reply

I've tried to port nasty code to cygwin before and was plagued by runtime

I would like to switch to lyx 1.3pre2 but it does not allow me to type oe

Re: maths fonts in FoilTex

2003-01-21 Thread David Norris
Dear Paul,

Having just found 10 mins to play around in response to your recent
sugestions the situation can be summarised as:
1. \mathbf etc no longer work in maths mode.
2. for normal text everything works ok from the maths panel
3. for Greek text the maths panel will not produce bold text
4. \bm works in maths mode and will give bold Greek characters
5. the appearance of some normal bold letters (eg 'a') is different
depending on whether bm of the maths panel is used.
6. it is not necessary with FoilTex to explicitly add \usepackage{bm} or
\usepackage{amsbsy}. It is also possible to use \boldsymbol in maths
mode and the output (as far as I can see) is the same as for \bm.

Best wishes,

David

problem with dcolumn

2003-01-21 Thread Dipl.-Ing. Robert Sauerbrey
Hi there!

I have a rather strange problem with the package dcolumn, which I could
only track down after some frustrating hours of work. It´s no problem to
correctly align the values on the decimal point in the middle of the
column and view the result with Acrobat Reader AS LONG as the font size
remains on normal. If I change this to an arbitrarily chosen size,
e.g. big or small, I get a pretty amount of errors while trying to
convert to PDF.

For example I get something like this:

missing } inserted

{footnotesize 104.1}

I have no ideas left, what might be wrong (sigh). I´m running Lyx 1.2.2
on Windows XP SP1. I´ve added an example file which demontrates this
problem. Font size is on the default setting normal at the moment, but
if changed, the errors start coming in low.

Thanks in advance,

Robert

foils and algorithms

2003-01-21 Thread Raphael Clifford
Hi,
I am trying to prepar comp. sci. lectures using lyx 1.2.1. I started by
using foiltex simply because lyx seems to support it. However I can't
work out how to do some simple things.

1) How can I use the algo package to typeset algorithms in my slides? I
downloaded the algo 0.3 tar ball and installed it fine but I have no
idea how you can use it with foiltex.
2) How do I set different font sizes on different foils?

Cheers,
Raphael

Looks like the columntype you define only understands numbers, but not
{\huge 100.2}. I've never used the dcolumn package, though.

If you want the whole table as huge, you could simply put \huge in ERT in
front of the table.

PS: This is not exactly a LyX problem, maybe better ask in comp.text.tex

Error converting to loadable format

2003-01-21 Thread Luis Angel Fernndez Cuadrado
Hi all,

I'm faced to a mistery. I have 2 Linux systems, one at work and the other at
home. Both are SuSE 8.0 and both have Ghostscript 6.53, xforms 0.89 and
ImageMagick 5.4.2. In both I have compiled and installed LyX 1.2.2 from the
sources. In both I can see included .jpg figures. However, in the one at work
I can see the included .eps figures while in the one at home I constantly get
'Error converting to loadable format' and the figure won't display in LyX.

Which puzzles me most is that recently I installed LyX version 1.3.0pre2 with
the qt frontend (which, by the way, looks great and has compiled and it's
been working so far without hassle) and the same thing happens: I can see the
.eps's in the system at work but not in the system at home.

I'd like to hear suggestions so as to what to check and get the damm thing
working.

Thanks.

This will not affect your ability to *enter* the symbols. This is

my $LANG is set to fr_FR@euro. Its is the only available value defined in

fr_FR@euro ISO-8859-15

What should be the $LANG value that would make lyx choose the iso8859-15

Inserting an URL: not anyone?

2003-01-21 Thread Raymond Ouellette
Using LyX 1.2.2 (my last compile of 1.2.3 src.rpm failed :-() I noticed this problem:
I can't insert in a LyX document an URL if it contains certain characters.

http://www.denverpost.com/Stories/0,1413,36%257E73%257E1123977,00.html

The above URL, for exemple, when inserted in a LyX document, makes LyX refuse to
produce anything -- I got the message « LyX a produit un document vide » or LyX
produced an empty document. It is the second time I notice this behavior, and I
suspect that the URL must contain invalid characters for LyX (or LaTeX)? Maybe the
comma ?

Am I wrong?

You can make it into an adult EPS file by adding command

to the begin of the Metapost source code.

Ok, I see. Thank you for the help. However, do you think that other

to see what I mean. The first figure is generated using prologues:=1;
and the second one doesn't have the prologues:=1; In the first figure
the \lambda is missing in the ylabel and the text of labels are text
fonts. However in the second one, all labels are math fonts. I really
need this feature of metapost files.

{footnotesize 104.1}

Hi,
I am trying to prepar comp. sci. lectures using lyx 1.2.1.

Cheers,

I'd like to hear suggestions so as to what to check and get the damm thing
working.

Thanks.

Hi there!

I have a rather strange problem with the package dcolumn, which I could
only track down after some frustrating hours of work. It´s no problem to
correctly align the values on the decimal point in the middle of the

remains on normal. If I change this to an arbitrarily chosen size, e.g.
big or small, I get a pretty amount of errors while trying to convert to
PDF.

For example I get something like this:

missing } inserted

{footnotesize 104.1}

I have no ideas left, what might be wrong (sigh). I´m running Lyx 1.2.2
on Windows XP SP1. I´ve added an example file which demontrates this
problem. Font size is on the default setting normal at the moment, but
if changed, the errors start coming in low.

attached the running file. Look into the preamble,
I changed the newcolumntype and commented out
two commands, which are unknown to me (maybe that
they are part of komascript(???)

Now it seems to work properly!!! Several questions, though:

1. The definition of GS_LIB does not conflict with the default GS_LIB
just in the case that it existe before?

2. The links are pointing to files that actually exists in my
distribution why they weren't found by latex/dvips? I suppose that the
point is in the definition of $GS_LIB

3 Several messages complaingin of dvips are:

Are they important?

4. This means that I must generate every metapost file to be included in
lyx by menas of:

mpost '\prologues :=1; input file.mp' in order to ensure that they have
a prologues :=1; line mustn't I?

Finally I would like to thank you all your help.

my $LANG is set to fr_FR@euro. Its is the only available value defined in

fr_FR@euro ISO-8859-15

What should be the $LANG value that would make lyx choose the iso8859-15

http://www.denverpost.com/Stories/0,1413,36%257E73%257E1123977,00.html

The above URL, for exemple, when inserted in a LyX document, makes LyX refuse to
produce anything -- I got the message « LyX a produit un document vide » or LyX
produced an empty document. It is the second time I notice this behavior, and I
suspect that the URL must contain invalid characters for LyX (or LaTeX)? Maybe the
comma ?

Am I wrong?

Using the space instead of the brackets seems to work in general, but it
is not entirely clear why \bm and \boldsymbol work with the brackets.
Anyway I guess a solution has been found and that is the main thing.

Using space in lieu of braces also works for \mathtt.

Ok, I see. Thank you for the help. However, do you think that other
workaround could be found? I didn't want to use this workaround because
i want to use math fonts at the text in the metapost files, in this way
I can produce both ps and pdf output formats with the same math fonts
than the text. Please could you have a look at the following resulting
postscript file

http://www.iit.upco.es/~oscar/download/foo.ps

to see what I mean. The first figure is generated using prologues:=1;
and the second one doesn't have the prologues:=1; In the first figure
the \lambda is missing in the ylabel and the text of labels are text
fonts. However in the second one, all labels are math fonts. I really
need this feature of metapost files.

   Have a nice day,

Once again thank you for your kind reply

The example file also displays this problem on my cygwin lyx system
(cygwin 1.3.17-1, winnt, miktex 2.2, lyx 1.2.3). I'm not sure what the
output of \mathtt{} should have been. Is it supposed to be a math alphabet
command to create true-type font text inside a formula? Might be a good
idea to ask Claus Hentschel.

I've tried to port nasty code to cygwin before and was plagued by runtime
bugs which I couldn't track down at the time, and eventually gave up.

{footnotesize 104.1}

I have no ideas left, what might be wrong (sigh). I´m running Lyx 1.2.2
on Windows XP SP1. I´ve added an example file which demontrates this
problem. Font size is on the default setting "normal" at the moment, but
if changed, the errors start coming in low.

Thanks in advance,

foils and algorithms

If you want the whole table as "huge", you could simply put \huge in ERT in
front of the table.

PS: This is not exactly a LyX problem, maybe better ask in comp.text.tex
or similar.

Error converting to loadable format

2003-01-21 Thread Luis Angel Fernández Cuadrado

I'd like to hear suggestions so as to what to check and get the damm thing
working.

Thanks.

Well, \lambda is OK on my computer, because I have configured
properly GhostScript (see pdf file on
http://www.volny.cz/cepls/ps-pdf/foo.pdf). Unpack the attached
tarball (of course, I assume that you are with real operating
system which supports links not M$ crap), and then set up an
environment variable GS_LIB to point to that directory (in
~/.profile, ~/.bash_profile, ~/.zshenv, /etc/profile, etc. --
check with set | less, that it is really set). Then open your
file with

   gs foo.ps 2>&1 | tee foo.log

in xterm and you should see messages of ghostscript loading
appropriate fonts. If there is anything wrong, send me foo.log.

   Have a nice day,

Re: problem with metapost files

Well, \lambda is OK on my computer, because I have configured

system which supports links not M$ crap), and then set up an
environment variable GS_LIB to point to that directory (in
~/.profile, ~/.bash_profile, ~/.zshenv, /etc/profile, etc. --
check with set | less, that it is really set). Then open your
file with

   gs foo.ps 2>&1 | tee foo.log

in xterm and you should see messages of ghostscript loading
appropriate fonts. If there is anything wrong, send me foo.log.

Using space in lieu of braces also works for \mathtt.

Hello,

I've created two LyX packages for Debian 3.0 (Woody). See :

(you can use a deb-src line for sources)

Any comments or suggestions - in private please - are welcomed.

lyx 1.3pre2 does not display oe and euro symbol

2003-01-21 Thread Nabil Hathout
In fact, the problem exists only with the Qt front-end. It seems (-dbg 512)
that the font encoding is guessed from the language value and that the ones
associated with "Français" are either iso8859-1 and iso10646-1. I have added
the relevant encoding variables in the preferences but it seems they are not used.

This will not affect your ability to *enter* the symbols. This is
completely outside of our control. Try fiddling with your $LANG setting.

my $LANG is set to fr_FR@euro. Its is the only available value defined in
/etc/locale.gen :

fr_FR@euro ISO-8859-15

What should be the $LANG value that would make lyx choose the iso8859-15
encoding ?

Maybe the
comma ?

Am I wrong?

You need to type latex not normal text at the moment.

Having said that, this works for me. See attached...

Re: maths fonts in FoilTex

2003-01-21 Thread David Norris
Using the space instead of the brackets seems to work in general, but it
is not entirely clear why \bm and \boldsymbol work with the brackets.
Anyway I guess a solution has been found and that is the main thing.

Using space in lieu of braces also works for \mathtt.
