From ANNOUNCE, to me found in top level dir of your source tree:

What's new
==

** Updates

- it is now possible to open documents which use a textclass for
which no LaTeX support is installed. The documents can be normally
edited, but they can of course be neither previewed nor printed.
Note
that the format of the file .lyx/textclasses.lst has changed as a
consequence and it is therefore not possible to use LyX 1.3.4 and an
earlier version with the same .lyx/ directory.

Remove ~/.lyx/textclass.lst and, as olucas, reconfigure and restart
lyx. All should then be Ok.

Did you do the reconfigure as normal use or as root only? Each user
needs to do it separately (although it is supposed to be done
automatically).

Also, not that you cannot use both LyX 1.3.x (x4) and 1.3.4 with the
same .lyx directory, since they use a different syntax for the
textclass.lst file (but reconfigure cures that).

blue underlines

2004-05-25 Thread Jan Smid
Hi,

since I opened up a new file to split my thesis in lyx 1.3.4, I got blue
underlines under every word (blanks are left out). I'm not aware of any
changes in document style or anything like that.
How can I get rid of the blue underlines, they are sort of annoying.

Tweaking the UI?

2004-05-25 Thread Rich Shepard
Every time I start to use LyX I move the one-line command buffer from the
bottom of the window to the empty space on the right end of the row of
hieroglyphic buttons, just under the menu.

Is it possible to have the command buffer occupy that space automatically?
It's a very minor point but would be a nice touch.

Thanks,

Rich

Not in 1.3.x.
In 1.4.x you'll be able to edit ui/default.ui

 # on: the toolbar is visible
 # off: the toolbar is not visible
 # math: the toolbar is visible only when in math
 # table: the toolbar is visible only when in a table
 # top: the toolbar should be at the top of the window
 # bottom: the toolbar should be at the bottom of the window
 # left: the toolbar should be at the left of the window
 # right: the toolbar should be at the right of the window
 Toolbars
standard on,top
extra on,top
table off,bottom
math off,bottom
- minibuffer off,bottom

Great piece of work

2004-05-25 Thread Pilhofer, Frank
Hi,

I am writing an article using the Cygwin version of LyX 1.3.1 on
Windows. I then export the article to PDF using pdflatex. After
upgrading to the latest MikTex, the PDF file has bookmarks and
colored cross-references. I am amazed how smooth this works.

This mail started out as a question on cross-references to figures,
which in a PDF document would link to the caption, so the actual
figure would be off-screen.

I just fixed that myself by passing the pdfview=Fit option to
hyperref, so that a click on a cross-reference now brings me to
the page containing the label, which I find appropriate.

I decided to complete the mail after all. So all that's left for
me to do is to commend you on a job well done.

I have occasionally used LyX since 1999, when it worked flawlessly
on my 100-page thesis. LyX is such a time saver.

Keep up the great work,
Frank

Overfull hbox in quotation

2004-05-25 Thread Rich Shepard
On the rare occasion when LaTeX doesn't know where to hyphenate a word so
it sticks into the right margin, I either tell it where to hyphenate or
rewrite the text so it fits a justified line. But, what am I to do when a
quotation has an overfilled line or three and the rightmost word in the line
either cannot be hyphenated or is already hyphenated at the only allowed
place?

Thanks,

Rich

  Problems with hyphenation
Put the following commands in LaTeX preamble, if you have some lines which went

  \setlength{\emergencystretch}{2em}

Paul,

Yes it does. Since I found the link to Herbert's page to be broken I
didn't think to try the new link someone posted.

BTW, have you seen the article in the current issue of The Economist on

Did you do the reconfigure as normal use or as root only? Each user
needs to do it separately (although it is supposed to be done
automatically).

Also, not that you cannot use both LyX 1.3.x (x4) and 1.3.4 with the
same .lyx directory, since they use a different syntax for the
textclass.lst file (but reconfigure cures that).

blue underlines

2004-05-25 Thread Jan Smid
Hi,

since I opened up a new file to split my thesis in lyx 1.3.4, I got blue

changes in document style or anything like that.

Thanks,

Not in 1.3.x.
In 1.4.x you'll be able to edit ui/default.ui

But, what am I to do when a
quotation has an overfilled line or three and the rightmost word in the line
either cannot be hyphenated or is already hyphenated at the only allowed
place?

Thanks,

Have you tried to use the original .inc and .layout files coming in the
LyX distribution package? I believe they are correct at least for the
whole aguplus package and jgrga. Then jgrga -> agums.

Did you do the reconfigure as normal use or as root only? Each user
needs to do it separately (although it is supposed to be done

Also, not that you cannot use both LyX 1.3.x (x<4) and 1.3.4 with the

Not in 1.3.x.
In 1.4.x you'll be able to edit ui/default.ui

 # on: the toolbar is visible
 # off: the toolbar is not visible
 # math: the toolbar is visible only when in math
 # table: the toolbar is visible only when in a table
 # top: the toolbar should be at the top of the window
 # bottom: the toolbar should be at the bottom of the window
 # left: the toolbar should be at the left of the window
 # right: the toolbar should be at the right of the window
 Toolbars
"standard" "on,top"
"extra" "on,top"
"table" "off,bottom"
"math" "off,bottom"
- "minibuffer" "off,bottom"
+ "minibuffer" "on,top"
 End

Great piece of work

2004-05-25 Thread Pilhofer, Frank
Hi,

I am writing an article using the Cygwin version of LyX 1.3.1 on
Windows. I then export the article to PDF using pdflatex. After
upgrading to the latest MikTex, the PDF file has bookmarks and
colored cross-references. I am amazed how smooth this works.

This mail started out as a question on cross-references to figures,
which in a PDF document would link to the caption, so the actual
figure would be off-screen.

I just fixed that myself by passing the "pdfview=Fit" option to
hyperref, so that a click on a cross-reference now brings me to
the page containing the label, which I find appropriate.

But, what am I to do when a
quotation has an overfilled line or three and the rightmost word in the line
either cannot be hyphenated or is already hyphenated at the only allowed
place?

Thanks,

Rich

Paul,

Yes it does. Since I found the link to Herbert's page to be broken I
didn't think to try the new link someone posted.

BTW, have you seen the article in the current issue of "The Economist" on
biz schools and MBAs? It's probably available online.

Yep did that and no joy. But why is it complaining about

I removed that one too and didn make install again now it just says
[EMAIL PROTECTED] olucas]$ lyx
LyXTextClassList::Read: unable to find textclass file `'. Exiting.
but a locat shows
