Hm... I do not see a lot in that either :-/
A lot of ntdll calls, which basically means a lot of interaction with the

It is also a bit confusing that the distribution over the different modules

I think it would be good to have the debug symbols to zoom into the most

Reference dialog behaviour

2006-10-19 Thread Nicolás

Hi!

I am using LyX 1.4.2 and 1.4.3 in Windows (installed with the
LyXWinInstaller).

When the reference dialog is opened in order to insert a reference, the
last label that has been referenced is marked with a dashed-box. Seeing
this, I tend to believe the label is selected and just press return in
order to insert the reference. the result is an annoying empty
reference! Is this the desired behaviour? If so,I don't really like it.
I think if the intention is not to have any label selected when the
dialog is opened, then the dashed-box should be removed (to avoid
confusion). However, I think it is useful to have the last referenced
label automatically highlighted, since many times one inserts several
consecutive references to the same label.

I have seen bug 1777 is related to my comment. Is it been processed?

Timothy Reaves a écrit :
I'm using the book document class. It seems that chapters are the only

Sections are the high level classes for the document.

- Go to Document -- parameter --- Numbering TOC : you can adjust the
slider
- As Juergen Spitzmueller advised me those marked with * are not suppose to
appear in the TOC.
- If you does not want any numbering put the corresponding slider to 0f
(lefthandside) and use the entries which are supposed to have number.
- When you have that, you can check with Document -- Table of contents.

 This seems -
well, not odd so much as plain wrong. Most books I have would include
things like the Index, List of Figures, and even the ToC in the ToC.

For inserting index that's no problem, just place the index button
(Insert -- Floating ...) where you want to see it.
The same for the others.
However I supposed that you used the floating placement for your figures and
pictures, otherwise I don't think it will work (if you used the fixed one :
no reference).

Also, they support other high level, non-numbered entities, such as
 appendices, glossaries, etc.

So am I using the wrong document class, or is it really that limited?

Hope it helps

It depends. Some people have ERT with only one character in it like

Semms that it works like babel: no clash if hyperref is called without options.
(for hyperref users, like beamer addicts, the \hypersetup command allows to
redefine
hyperref package option without clash).

Il seems that the problem is with documents which clash when
\usepackage{hyperref} is added
to a working stuff (e.g., to get hypertexted pdf).

But I agree that something needs to be done.

What about loading hyperref only if the Name field is filled up, or if
the checkbox is checked ?
Or upon a global setting of the behaviour of the URL inset (see bug 2268).

If a clash happens, the user has just to revert to the \url export.

Only partial preview of

2006-10-19 Thread Curtis Osterhoudt
Hi, all, This may have shown up on the list recently, but I did a quick
archive search and turned up nothing, so thought I'd ask here. I finally
upgraded to LyX 1.4.3 last night (the Debian repo. I use decided -- finally --
to host it). Everything seems to work well (that I've tested thus far), except
that previews of graphics files are a little wonky. I produce many of my
files in XFig, but recently I've been using XFig to overlay some stuff on top
of (say) .eps files produced elsewhere. This works fine, and LyX has happily
imported the .fig files and displayed the entire graphic. Now, however, if I
insert an XFig file which references an .eps, LyX will only display the portion
of the figure that XFig added (some arrows or axes I stuck in myself, or
whatever), and the underlying .eps is not displayed (though the size of the
preview is appropriate to the underlying .eps, so that, for example, I'll get a
white rectangle where the .eps would normally be, and the things that .xfig
added on are displayed on the white field). Strangely, .eps files which are
inserted by themselves (not in the .fig wrapper) preview just fine. Also,
viewing the .dvi or .pdflatex file (or whatever) works great, so that this is
definitely not a showstopper for me. I can go back to 1.4.2 OK (where the bug
isn't present -- I've already tried that), or very easily live with 1.4.3.
  Best to all,Curtis O.

Try the fancyheader package (fancyhdr) and use something like:

I'm new to this package so I'm sure you can get better results if you read

  Best to all,Curtis O.

really a "hot spot" it should be similar in every take.

I would be nice if you could find out.

Well, maybe it is time to confess that I am neither a Lyx developer nor
have any experience with kernrate. (I know, however, a lot about Windows
internals.) Some "real" LyX developer around who is following this?

I think it would be good to have the debug symbols to zoom into the most
frequently used modules in both processes to find out which functions they
are actually executing.

centering chapter heading

2006-10-19 Thread Ares

is there a way to modify the formatting of chapter or section headings to
have them centered ?

Try the fancyheader package (fancyhdr) and use something like:

\usepackage{fancyhdr}
\pagestyle{fancy}
\chead{\chaptermark}

I'm new to this package so I'm sure you can get better results if you read
the documentation through...

Hope this works, regards - Diego

Do you use any ERT in the main document or any special commands in the
preamble?

If yes, please check if there is not any forgotten '}', otherwise, post a
minimal example of this behaviour to the list.

The real reason why it is not done yet is that there can be many cases
of incompatibility between hyperref and other packages, where
everything breaks down when someone uses the packages in the wrong
order. This is a can of worm we have been reluctant to open. Also, if
LyX loads hyperref automatically, it may be in conflict with other
packages that use it with different options (am I right?).

But I agree that something needs to be done.

Some people who use ERT for short bits would not like to have it be of
the same fixed size. However, I think it could be a bit smaller (like
foot is smaller).

- Go to "Document" --> "parameter" ---> Numbering & TOC : you can adjust the
"slider"
- As Juergen Spitzmueller advised me those marked with * are not suppose to
appear in the TOC.
- If you does not want any numbering put the corresponding slider to "0f"
(lefthandside) and use the entries which are supposed to have number.
- When you have that, you can check with Document --> Table of contents.

 This seems -

For inserting index that's no problem, just place the "index button"
(Insert --> Floating ...) where you want to see it.
The same for the others.
However I supposed that you used the floating placement for your figures and
pictures, otherwise I don't think it will work (if you used the fixed one :
no reference).

Well, "huge" ERTs would probably never make any sense. As ERTs are rendered
in a monospaced font, they always break over several lines. At least if
using a screen of affordable size :-)

I think a maximum size would be good.

It depends. Some people have ERT with only one character in it like
"\foo{" and then later "}". In this case, it makes sense to use the
same size as the surrounding text.

I think you want to titlesec package or to use the koma-script classes,

>>

You need for this purpose the LaTeX-package "tocbibind".

So am I using the wrong document class, or is it really that limited?

The standard classes don't have enough possibilities to costomize them
suitably. So better use e.g. the koma-script book class that has built
in support for the TOC entries of Appendices, etc:

- Add in LyX's document preferences the class options "bibtotoc" and
"idxtotoc". For more info I refer to koma-scripts manual

I can go back to 1.4.2 OK (where the "bug"
isn't present -- I've already tried that), or very easily live with 1.4.3.
  Best to all,Curtis O.

   Hi, Daniel,

I'm quite happy with Foxit's free .pdf viewer
(www.foxitsoftware.com), though I don't know how well it handles
bitmapped fonts. They also make (for $$) a .pdf editor which I use when
I must use Windows.

Cool!

FoxitReader (I have a tendency to write FixItReader :-) ) comes quite close
to my idea of an ideal PDF reader. It provides even an option to display
facing pages in full screen mode!!!

The rendering quality is a bit lower as with AdobeReader in low zoom levels
(especially for graphics). However, FoxitReader is fast, simple and does
not lock the PDF file.

permil symbol error

2006-10-19 Thread shavawn donoghue

Hi,

I have just updated to 1.4.3-4 from 1.3.6 which I have been using for ages
(on Windows XP). When I tried to export my document for the first time with
pdflatex (or DVI) all of my permil symbols cause the error:

$\permil$ The control sequence at the end of the top line of your error
message was never \def'ed. etc...

The symbols appears correct in Lyx (I'm using the math editor to insert the
symbols into the text).

I used the window installer to update.

Any suggestions on how to get this to work again?

cheers,
