Using Lyx with Xetex and french accents

2008-09-01 Thread Nicolas Triart
Dear All,

I am using Lyx 1.5.6. I followed the instructions on the wiki to make it
works with Xetex (included in MikTex 2.7). I did this because I wanted to
use the Garamond fonts already installed on my system rather than installing
them in LaTex which is more complicated. The problem is that when I write
something in french the accents are missing on the output document. It's
rather surprising because I choose french as the document language in the
parameters and it never happened when using LaTex. Should I use a special
package when I use XeTex?

Thank you in advance for your help,

Nicolas

This is a known bug*. You have to either upgrade to the most recent version of

old questions: no error message

Dear all:
 I found it is really boring that the lyx system outputs no error message.
 I am working a book with lyx. Now I want export it to pdf and forward it
to others. But I found all export functions in lyx are dead, including
exporting to dvi, pdf, ps, latex etc. After I run these export functions, they
immediately dies without error message.
 Someone suggest that I delelte some paragraphs and find errors. Of course
the method can not work well for a long long book.
 Why not let lyx output error messages? The module is very important for
all programming language.

Wang,
I usually solve this kind of problems by starting LyX in debug mode.
Just start it from the console with:

lyx -dbg feature[,feature]...

Where features can be taken from the following list (printed out by
just invoking lyx -dbg):

List of supported debug flags:
 0 none  No debugging message
 1 info  General information
 2 init  Program initialisation
 4  key  Keyboard events handling
 8  gui  GUI handling
16   parser  Lyxlex grammar parser

  16777216 painting  RowPainter profiling
2147483648debug  Developers' general debug messages
4294967295  any  All debugging messages

You probably should start with lyx -dbg latex, if that does not help
try lyx -dbg any. However, in the latter case, LyX will dump tons of
messages to the console.

letter (KOMA 2) - Error: unknown KOMA option

2008-09-01 Thread Joachim Kreimer-de Fries

Hey, friendly helpers,

are there bugs in the LyX-templates?

I try to use the koma-letter2.lyx template with LyX 1.5.6 an Mac-OSX
10.4 with German localisation, but even not changing nothing when
typesetting it (View PDF or DVI) LyX answers immediately with a LyX:

}

You have used \KOMAoptions to set `',
but KOMA-Script does not know any option named `'.
See the KOMA-Script manual for more informations about options and
their values.

With some other templates I had similar error abruptions.

I don't find the rejected option `' or the like and no enlightening
hint in the KOMA-Script manual.

Has someone processed the koma-letter2.lyx with success on Mac-OSX
already?

Can someone give me instruction or advice to solve the problem?

looks sane compared to other packages we've seen in the past but a conflict
on the lyx-common package suggests that there is something fishy.
If you'd use 'our' /debian/ direrctory to build the package you'd end up with
a lyx-common package aswell so there must have been changes to the packaging.
(missing the source package here as usual, even an added backdoor has to be
GPL'ed)

So let's go on to the stupid part in this package. As you can read above this
package depends on parts of the boost libs as it would happen if you use the
/debian/ dir from Debian or Ubuntu.

$ ar x lyx-1.5.6-1~hardy_i386.deb
$ tar zxf data.tar.gz
$ ldd usr/bin/lyx|grep boost
$

Hm. Fishy as suspected.

I've another one up my sleeve which I'll save for later use just in case
someone comes back with such broken shit and just fixed the obvious one
pointed out here.

So if you're a user of Ubuntu and you're constantly searching for 3rd party
packages you should thinks twice.

If you're the packager please go back to your workplace repackage with a
sane /debian/ directory. Now.
Afterwards publish a sane _source_ and binary package.

Thanks.

Add abstract to TOC

I could have sworn to have got the same or very similar message with

also with agu-dtd.layout, docbook.layout, ijmpc.layout, ijmpd.layout,

With g-brief.layout it is:

Type I command return to replace it with another command,

Or, opening in Lyx, but when typesetted saying:

I don't expect to get the explanation and solution for all these
disfuntioning Lyx-Templates in my installation, and in case I want to

This problem has been previously reported as bug 1751

when i looked at the tex file created in /tmp i found
\makeatletter
[EMAIL PROTECTED]/Users/my/path//}}
\makeatother

Note the double // at the end. That seemed odd to me.

If I go back to my lyx file and put in the preamble
\makeatletter
[EMAIL PROTECTED]/Users/my/path}}
\makeatother

with no // at the end, then everything works fine again and I can use
relative paths in the includepdf command

So it seems like something in the LyX code is producing the // in the
path command?

I am using LyX/Mac 1.5.5 with tex-live 2007

The preamble definition is an easier workaround since you only need
the full path once.

Any way to just use \includepdf{myfile} in LyX 1.5.5?

old questions: no error message

2008-09-01 Thread wangyq
Dear all:
 I found it is really boring that the lyx system outputs no error message.
 I am working a book with lyx. Now I want export it to pdf and forward it
to others. But I found all export functions in lyx are dead, including
exporting to dvi, pdf, ps, latex etc. After I run these export functions, they
immediately dies without error message.
 Someone suggest that I delelte some paragraphs and find errors. Of course
the method can not work well for a long long book.
 Why not let lyx output error messages? The module is very important for
all programming language.

Wang,
I usually solve this kind of problems by starting LyX in debug mode.
Just start it from the console with:

lyx -dbg feature[,feature]...

Where features can be taken from the following list (printed out by
just invoking lyx -dbg):

List of supported debug flags:
 0 none  No debugging message
 1 info  General information
 2 init  Program initialisation
 4  key  Keyboard events handling

  16777216 painting  RowPainter profiling

You probably should start with lyx -dbg latex, if that does not help
try lyx -dbg any. However, in the latter case, LyX will dump tons of
messages to the console.

letter (KOMA 2) - Error: unknown KOMA option

2008-09-01 Thread Joachim Kreimer-de Fries

Hey, friendly helpers,

are there bugs in the LyX-templates?

I try to use the koma-letter2.lyx template with LyX 1.5.6 an Mac-OSX
10.4 with German localisation, but even not changing nothing when
typesetting it (View PDF or DVI) LyX answers immediately with a LyX:
latex Errors message saying:

Package scrkbase Error: unknown KOMA option `',

}

$ ar x lyx-1.5.6-1~hardy_i386.deb
$ tar zxf data.tar.gz
$ ldd usr/bin/lyx|grep boost
$

Type I command return to replace it with another command,
or return to continue without it.

right command.

Or, opening in Lyx, but when typesetted saying:
revtex.sty not found and:

I don't expect to get the explanation and solution for all these
disfuntioning Lyx-Templates in my installation, and in case I want to
use one of these templates I'll come back and ask specifically.

I have TexLive 2007 installed with MacTex, might be that LyX 1.5.6 is

Re: pdfpages and filenames

2008-09-01 Thread Stephen Buonopane

This problem has been previously reported as bug 1751
http://bugzilla.lyx.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1751

when i looked at the tex file created in /tmp i found
\makeatletter
[EMAIL PROTECTED]/Users/my/path//}}
\makeatother

Note the double // at the end. That seemed odd to me.

If I go back to my lyx file and put in the preamble
\makeatletter
[EMAIL PROTECTED]/Users/my/path}}

In LyX 1.5.5 it seems that I need to put the full pathname and
filename, \includepdf{\very\long\path\myfile}
which is inconvenient because the pathname is very long and some of
the directories may contain spaces.

If I export to latex and compile outside of lyx the
\includepdf{myfile} works fine.

Any way to just use \includepdf{myfile} in LyX 1.5.5?

Using Lyx with Xetex and french accents

2008-09-01 Thread Nicolas Triart
Dear All,

I am using Lyx 1.5.6. I followed the instructions on the wiki to make it
works with Xetex (included in MikTex 2.7). I did this because I wanted to
use the Garamond fonts already installed on my system rather than installing
them in LaTex which is more complicated. The problem is that when I write
something in french the accents are missing on the output document. It's
rather surprising because I choose french as the document language in the
parameters and it never happened when using LaTex. Should I use a special
package when I use XeTex?

Thank you in advance for your help,

Where features can be taken from the following list (printed out by
just invoking "lyx -dbg"):

List of supported debug flags:
 0 none  No debugging message
 1 info  General information
 2 init  Program initialisation
 4  key  Keyboard events handling
 8  gui  GUI handling
16   parser  Lyxlex grammar parser
32lyxrc  Configuration files reading

  16777216 painting  RowPainter profiling
2147483648debug  Developers' general debug messages
4294967295  any  All debugging messages

You probably should start with "lyx -dbg latex", if that does not help
try "lyx -dbg any".

}

$ ar x lyx-1.5.6-1~hardy_i386.deb
$ tar zxf data.tar.gz
$ ldd usr/bin/lyx|grep boost
$

Thanks.

everyone should learn from such cases to do better)

 My OS is winxp.
 Lyx works well if the document is a simple hello-world. So I don't think
the problem is due to uncorrect installation of latex. There must be some
grammar errors in the document. But the document is too long, I cannot deteck
the locations.

You are using KOMA-script version 2.97, right? If so, either upgrade to
version 2.98 or take care that the KOMAOptions in the preamble are in one
line, without blanks, i.e. instead of

\KOMAoptions{%

%pagenumber=botcenter% position of the page number (see docu)

%,locfield=narrow% width of the (extra) location field

Add abstract to TOC

2008-09-01 Thread squidy

Hello,

I'm writing my dissertation in the document class

I wish the abstract, lists of tables/figures & appendix to be listed in the
TOC according to my dissertation guidelines. I've tried using this:
\usepackage[nottoc,notbib]{tocbibind} as suggested in the FAQ but this omits
the abstract and appendix.

I also tried adding \addcontentsline{toc}{chatpter}{Abstract} to the
abstract page but I get an error message.

Finally, I'm required to insert a word count at the foot of the TOC page,
does anyone know how this can be done?

Thank you so much for helping ...

Sorry, I tried to find out the version by searching "koma-script"
files and directories - getting a lot beneath /usr ... /texmf and
home- /library .../lyx - and opened some files in a text editor, but
I gave up to find the relevant version number.

Is there a command line code to get it? (Or in which file I have to
search it?)

Jürgen Spitzmüller:

insert

\KOMAoptions
{fromalign=center,fromrule=aftername,fromphone=true,fromfax=true,frome
mail=true,fromurl=true}

=> That worked immediately, thank you for the advice, Jürgen!

With some other templates I had similar error abruptions.

Which ones?

I could have sworn to have got the same or very similar message with
otheer LyX-Templates, but this is not the case. But there are others
such like:

The layout file requested by this document,
aa.layout,
is not usable. This is probably because a LaTeX
class or style file required by it is not
available.

also with agu-dtd.layout, docbook.layout, ijmpc.layout, ijmpd.layout,
iopart.layout (iop-article), latex8.layout.

With g-brief.layout it is:
"latex Error: Command \Telefon already defined." and

 \newcommand\Telefon{\mvchr{84}}
Your command was ignored.
Type I to replace it with another command,
or  to continue without it.

=> But from LyX one cannot do that, even if one (not me) knew the
right command.

Or, opening in Lyx, but when typesetted saying:
"revtex.sty not found" and:

\renewcommand
{\usepackage}{\RequirePackage}^^M
*** (cannot \read from terminal in nonstop modes)

I don't expect to get the explanation and solution for all these
disfuntioning Lyx-Templates in my installation, and in case I want to
use one of these templates I'll come back and ask specifically.

I have TexLive 2007 installed with MacTex, might be that LyX 1.5.6 is
not exactly build and configured for that?

Re: pdfpages and filenames

2008-09-01 Thread Stephen Buonopane

This problem has been previously reported as bug 1751
http://bugzilla.lyx.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1751

when i looked at the tex file created in /tmp i found
\makeatletter
[EMAIL PROTECTED]/Users/my/path//}}
\makeatother

Note the double // at the end. That seemed odd to me.

If I go back to my lyx file and put in the preamble
\makeatletter
[EMAIL PROTECTED]/Users/my/path}}

In LyX 1.5.5 it seems that I need to put the full pathname and
filename, \includepdf{\very\long\path\myfile}
which is inconvenient because the pathname is very long and some of
the directories may contain spaces.

If I export to latex and compile outside of lyx the
\includepdf{myfile} works fine.

Any way to just use \includepdf{myfile} in LyX 1.5.5?
