Lyx portable
Hello, I want to use Lyx from an usb-stick. MiKTeX I found as a portable version on http://www.miktex.org/portable/ . ImageMagick ist availlable as a zip-file on http://image_magick.veidrodis.com/image_magick/. Now Lyx: Is there anywhere a current portable version of Lyx? There has been an older one on http://portableapps.com/node/9880, but the linked website is no more accessible. Or is it possibe, just to copy the lyx-folder from my lyx-installation on my c-drive to the stick? Did someone try, if it works? -- Mit freundlichen Grüßen Matthias Schmidt mailto:gm_schm...@yahoo.de Diese Nachricht ist mit Norton Internet Security geprüft
Old/new problem with Tufte layouts
I wonder if anyone can help me with Tufte layouts? I just bought an little netbook and installed LyX 1.6.4 on Windows XP using the AltWindows installer. Lyx seems to be running well, in my limited tests except for the Tufte layouts. I have dropped the new layouts from the wiki into the layout file, loaded the MixTex Tufte style and reconfigured but|I am still getting an error : LaTeX Error: File `xifthen.sty' not found. This is the same error that I was getting on a desktop before installing the new Tufte layouts. The little test file is compiling just fine as a simple article file. Have I somehow confused what layout files I'm using? I'm a newbee with Lyx so I may be doing something rather stupid. Any suggestions would be welcomed. John __ Yahoo! However, the error seems strange since I am not trying to convert anything to eps, just create LaTeX code. Despite the error message, the LaTeX file actually is created and seems to be correct. However, it (a) is annoying and (b) leads me to think something else may be wrong, so I would like to fix it. First of all, does anyone have any insight into why LyX would ask for a PDF - EPS converter when the requested conversion is not to eps? Exporting to plain LaTeX, as opposed to LaTeX (pdflatex), implies an intent to generate a DVI file. Since LaTeX can only include EPS graphics (not PDF) in DVI output, LyX helpfully converts your PDF graphics to EPS (or at least tries to). Bear in mind that LyX must insert a path to the image file; the alternative would be for LyX to include a path to the PDF file, which would be doomed to failure when you ran LaTeX against the document. Pdflatex, in contrast, wants PDF files and cannot handle EPS files, so in your case compiling with pdflatex requires no conversions. Thanks Paul, compiling with pdflatex (File - Export - LaTeX (pdflatex)) went through with no error message, and the resulting tex file looks great.

2009/11/27 Yago diazd...@ono.com I use normally the command \vspace*{}and I try a balance between the width of the figure box and the margin between this box and the wrapped text. With something like this: \begin{wrapfigure}{r}{5cm} \vspace{-10pt} \includegraphics[width=4.7cm]{figure} \vspace{-10pt} \end{wrapfigure} Uhm, this looks interesting though I didn't understand very well: can I use it as an eert to put into Lyx? I think this can be used instead of a floating figure? I mean, I see {figure}, do I have to put my full path and name of the figure inside there? In any case I'm not sure of what this is all about. Will this make the text wrap my figure tight using real transparency? That was what I needed. If u think this can be done, is there a way to ert this into Lyx somehow? Or how do you call this effect, so that I can google better about this? Thanks, Luca
Greek Fonts in LyX
Hello Everyone, I am brand new to LyX, and am trying to figure out how to add Greek text to my documents (with proper accents, etc...). My papers are written in English but I often use Biblical Greek. Even though I have spent many hours trying to figure this out, I am no closer than when I began.I am sure due to my ignorance. Whatever explanations I find addressing the problem are over my head and/or not detailed enough for me to follow. Can someone give me step-by-step directions for setting up LyX so that I can utilize Greek (with proper accents, etc...) in my papers? I have LyX 1.6.4.1 installed with MiKTeX 2.7. Thank you for your consideration. Sincerely, Brian Bosse
