Hi,

Also, a new one seems to be developed on sourceforge:

I've never tried to install LyX on a USB stick with any success before this.
Lytex installs latex and LyX and it is nicely portable when one is away from
one's own machine.

Does a standard installer now create a stand alone system ?

Making an argument with numbered premises and a conclusion.

2009-11-29 Thread Ben Rasmussen
In writing a document, I often need to write out an argument with
numbered premises and a conclusion. The best I can figure out for now
is to use the description code to label the argument, then nest in
numbered premises and the conclusion.

The problem with this is that the conclusion doesn't stand out. How
could I have a horizontal line between the premises and conclusion, or a
therefore symbol before the conclusion?

How to import into lyx.

Hello:

I have been using lyx to creation documentation.
Now, I would like to include a section which is generated

I do see the one-time insert/file capability, but that is
not what I want. I want the input to take place at the
time when I generate PDF or HTML.

Thanks.

Re: portable lyx: Lytex

2009-11-29 Thread John Kane
I've never tried to install LyX on a USB stick with any success before this.
Lytex installs latex and LyX and it is nicely portable when one is away from
one's own machine.

Does a standard installer now create a stand alone system ?

2009-11-29 Thread Matthias Schmidt
Yes, that's it! Thank you so much.

http://code.google.com/p/lytex/ with 1.6.3 version of LyX is the first
portable LyX I tried, that'r running without any problems (till now
:-)).

The others
http://sourceforge.net/projects/lyxportable/ and
http://wiki.lyx.org/Windows/PortableInstallation
did not work at all or not correct.

The project site of http://code.google.com/p/lytex/ is very thin, last
changes from Jul 30, 2009. I hope, that they will continue the
project.

This the attached module, which can be used for this purpose and adapted
as you need.

Re: Lyx portable: That' ist!

2009-11-29 Thread Matthias Schmidt
Well, one more question:

I tried to update this LyTeX on the USB-stick with the setup.exe-file.
Neither the Lyx-update nore the TeXLive-update is working:
- the new Lyx.file cannot be unzipped
- the TeX Live Manager 2008 (!) seems to be old and cannot find a
server.

Does anyone knows, if there is a new TeX Live Manager for the portable
LyTeX available?

How to import into lyx.

2009-11-29 Thread william.croc...@analog.com

Hello:

I have been using lyx to creation documentation.
Now, I would like to include a section which is generated
programatically. I see that latex has the /input{file}
construct, but I do not find an equivalent in lyx.
I do see the one-time insert/file capability, but that is
not what I want. I want the input to take place at the
time when I generate PDF or HTML.

Thanks.

Bill

Try Insert->File->Child document... And select "Input" as the "Include
Type".

Float/Table ordering

2009-11-29 Thread Gauri Karve
Hi,

I have a problem with the ordering of my tables (floats). When I rotate two
of the tables (6 and 7) sideways, then table 8 comes up before tables 6 and
7 in the pdf/dvi. I am not sure what I am doing wrong. I have selected the
"Here definitely" option for all the tables. The problem disappears when I
uncheck the "rotate sideways" option for tables 6 and 7. However, I must
have them rotated sideways. Can someone please help?!

Thanks!

Don't use this option until your document is ready to be printed!

Rotating floats is somewhat special. This and the possibilities to influence the float placement is
explained in detail in the EmbeddedObjects manual that you find in LyX's Help menu.

Strange: It should work out of the box if you insert the proper
Unicode chars. (Be more specific about what does not work if you need
help.)
