moderncv (in Fedora, again)

Dear list,

Some more issues I'm encountering in my new Fedora box. Now I cannot get
LyX to compile my moderncv CVs. It's something to do with hyperref,
which is installed, and does not depend on the box use hyperref
support being ticked or not. In fact, an empty moderncv document (with
the right preamble) gives the same error.

SV: unwanted blank page

Hi 

I am adding som images (not in floats) to my appendix on a report I am 
writing, 
and suddenly there is a blank page. Have been trying to find
out why, but I just can't. 

The subsection just jumps over a whole page :S

Probably one of the pictures are to large for page, even if it does not 
look that way. Try to reduce the size of the images. 

It might also be  some other issues. One might be that LaTeX does not know 
where the pagebreak should go if there is to little text. Try insert a 
Document-formatting-clearpage 
where you want a page break.

If this does not work we would need the LaTeX-log :)

You seem to be trying to do italics using math mode. This is definitely
wrong and will cause you problems at some point. Just use Ctrl-E to get
emphasis.

More generally, way too much of your text is in math mode. You use math
(Ctrl-M) only for formulas. If you hit Ctrl-M again when inside math,
you are still in math, but are in a kind of text mode inside math.
This is not what you want, and it will cause problems.

You have this kind of problem at the end of (b) Motivation, which seems
to be where the error is. Much of the text here is actually inside math.
This is certainly a bug in LyX, that it either allowed you to do this or
output what it did. I'd suggest you erase it and retype it. Use math
mode only for math, and break out of it for text. You do this by simply
hitting the space bar.

When you are in math, there should be little corners around the math.
This lets you see where it is. If they aren't just around a formula, it
is wrong.

Also, your Z-sub-n thing is in many cases really more complicated than
it needs to be. The subscript is inside the math bold that makes the
Z, rather than outside it.

I'm attaching a cleaned up version of your file that at least compiles.
You'll see where I stopped and, by comparing this to your document, can
hopefully see how to continue.

moderncv (in Fedora, again)

Dear list,

Some more issues I'm encountering in my new Fedora box. Now I cannot get
LyX to compile my moderncv CVs. It's something to do with hyperref,
which is installed, and does not depend on the box "use hyperref
support" being ticked or not. In fact, an empty moderncv document (with
the right preamble) gives the same error. 

I attach here such a MWE, and the log.

You seem to be trying to do italics using math mode. This is definitely
wrong and will cause you problems at some point. Just use Ctrl-E to get
emphasis.

More generally, way too much of your text is in math mode. You use math
(Ctrl-M) only for formulas. If you hit Ctrl-M again when inside math,
you are still in math, but are in a kind of "text mode inside math".
This is not what you want, and it will cause problems.

You have this kind of problem at the end of (b) Motivation, which seems
to be where the error is. Much of the text here is actually inside math.
This is certainly a bug in LyX, that it either allowed you to do this or
output what it did. I'd suggest you erase it and retype it. Use math
mode only for math, and break out of it for text. You do this by simply
hitting the space bar.

When you are in math, there should be little corners around the math.
This lets you see where it is. If they aren't just around a formula, it
is wrong.

Also, your Z-sub-n thing is in many cases really more complicated than
it needs to be. The subscript is inside the "math bold" that makes the
Z, rather than outside it.
