Re: installing cvs snapshot
Hi! Sorry if I am getting OT. one thing first: to get the error messages in english (which would be more helpfull when posting in an english list), enter LC_ALL=C dpkg -i xxx So you don't have to translate yourself (not that it would have been bad) So I just set this variable for the current session? Will I get English only when installing for the installing of software? Remeber my last post about internationalization. I added [EMAIL PROTECTED] to my /etc/environments and the problem with the diffenernt language startup is solved thanks to your response. Greetings Holger
[OT] debian from knoppix (was: Re: strange koma-letter2.lyx template behavior)
Debian testing/unstable, build from Knoppix 3.3 BTW: how do I build a Debian from Knoppix? in your shell: knoppix-installer (a script which works quite well but still in develpment) You may send more on this by private mail since it isn't really lyx stuff They got LyX Version 1.3.2-1 on the current cd. ftp://ftp.uni-kl.de/pub/linux/knoppix/packages.txt Greetings Holger

I tried another template (hollywood) but got the same error message. Is this a debian problem or a configuration problem? I once set the default text class to a different class than article and maybe that's why I have this problem. Is there a way to reset all default values concerning textclasses? Re: Simple example of using BibTeX with LyX...
can be found here: http://wiki.lyx.org/pmwiki.php/Examples/SimpleUseOfBibTeX I'd be grateful if people who know what they are doing could check it out to see that it works properly. (Before people who are new to LyX/BibTeX try it...) I could generate the DVI without any problems. BTW, after having learned the basic bibtex my problem is to create a bst that fits to my needs. latex makebst didn't satisfy. Bibtex starters should also consider that URLs need to be taken care of when used in bibtex. See the Tips Tricks. Greetings Holger

how to specify path to user examples
Hi, what do I have to do to let LyX 1.3.2 find my own examples dir? Lyx does find templates in ~/.lyx/templates without problems but when I try to load a example file it goes to /usr/share/... I tried to overwrite ./preferences but this doesn't help. I think the old lyxrc istn't in use anymore since changes there don't get recognized. Maybe because one can't specify it in the preferences dialog? Thanks Holger

longtables
Hi list, I have a problem with longtables. All tables are placed inside floats and have a caption. When I tick in the table dialog at the longtable box the first table in my document will be counted as No. 2 (Table 2) and the next one Table 3. When I deselect the longtable option the 1rst table gets counted correctly as No. 1. Why doesen't the counting of tables work with the first table as a longtable?
Thanks and Greetings Holger longtable_example.lyx Description: Binary data

line break in cv topics
Dear List, I need to produce a cv and have a question: How can I let the beginning of the topics float in two lines? Instead of: Oktober 2002- May 2003 Job at big company I wanna create: Oktober 2002- Job at big company May 2003 A cv is said to have at last 1 1/2 pages. If the topic start (Oktober 2002- May 2003) is too long the class would skip the topic text (Job at big company) into the next line. This process needs more space in the document. Thanks and Greetings Holger

Re: Floatflt Figs...
Hello Any ideas out there? I am writing a proposal, and I need all the space I can get! floatflt is a bit tricky to use. If there is not enough ordinary text, the used algorithm fails and the figures are dropped. Try to place the figures a page earlier or so. Or try do change the size of your floatflt. I take %line and size the pic 3 to 5 % smaller than the whole float. If you have to many pics or if they're to close to the end of the page they won't be printed. So eather change the size or the placement. I think the latex options hbp! don't work with this option. Holger

RE: placement of figures/floats
how do I place figures which are included in floats exactly where they should be in a text? float means you want LaTeX to move the figure to its idea of the best location. If that is not what you want, don't use a float! I used floats because I want to have a caption under the figure. If I put some text in the caption environment outside of floats I get the error msg: can't use caption outside floats. Is there a way of getting a caption outside of a float? placement of figures/floats
Hello, how do I place figures which are included in floats exactly where they should be in a text? So far, I used to put !h in the extras box of Layout | Document. But figures keep appearing somewhere out of context like one or two paragraphs later. With Lyx Version 1.5-fix I got it made after some time but since I have upgraded it doesn't work and when I open my old documents the seem to have all problems with floats. Thanks. presentation experiences with seminar.cls
Hi. What experiences have you made with Lyx and presenations? I don't value the suggested nesting pratice (see template on tipstricks) since you spend a lot of time with nesting and inserting empty lines. I also got a lot f error msg. The slides.cls doesn't provide enough env. for my case. What I did: I wrote the article on which my presenation will be baseed on first and then saved it as a new file. In that file I changed the doc class to seminar and put the page to landscape. I now have a good basis for the presentation on which I only need to do some fine-tuning like pic, headlines etc. Greetings Holger OS: SuSe 7.1 pro TeX: probably teTeX Lyx : Version 1.1.5fix Adobe Acrobat 4
[newbie] seminar turned upside-down in ps-output
Hi, I have I question about the seminar.cls: I set the page to landscape. When I preview the *.dvi it looks allright. But when I export it to ps/pdf the pages get turned upside down. I always have to press swap landscape in the ps-preview. (I checked seminar_faq.html but didn't find a hint.) What can I do to prevent this? Thanks. header title problem
Hallo List, I have a problem with definfing a header and the title: Defining Header works fine withthe folowing Preamble: \usepackage{fancyhdr} \thispagestyle{fancy} \lhead{Institution: _ \\Seminar: \\Dozentin: .\\Referent: Holger Zebner} \chead{} \rhead{WS 02/03, 21.11.2002 } But when I put my title text in the title environment (select title) the above defined header disappears. I tried out titlehead, but this shows only a left justified and on-lined header. I need 4 lines and one part to be left justified and one part to be right justified. An all should come before the title. Thanks. Holger

article class
Hello, I need to write a short paper and want to use the article class. The title should apear just below the heading and before the table of contents. But when I mark the title it and generate a preview the title and headings are put on an extra title page. How can I avoid that? I used the AMS class, which works well but has too large margins on the page sides. How can I also minimize the space between contents and text? It's just a small article so I don't wanna waste paper? Thanks.

defining heading - text in heading
Hi everyone. I have a quetsion about setting up a layout. Actually, I have problems with defining my heading. I am writing a two/threesided paper for lecture. I want some basic data to be printed in the heading - as follws: the Institution: the name of the course the host my name and after that I want to have the title. I am looking for an alternative to the predefined author, address... I already tried out fancyhdr but got too my error msgs. Where can I find a doc for this makro? Is there a possibility to list all section/subsection headlines just between the title and the text? Like a small table of contents. Thank you. P.S. Sorry forgot the subject in the frist mail.
