Not sure, but it's not intended to work for Debian. You can always
experiment with this, but run-time dependencies may be different, etc.

For Ubuntu testers alpha2 packages are available on the 'Development' PPA:
https://launchpad.net/~lyx-devel/+archive/ubuntu/daily

The installation of the 'lyx2.4pre' pre-release packages is
independent of the stable 'lyx' installation, so you can have the
pre-release and stable packages installed side-by-side. They shouldn't
interfere with each other.

Please report if you have any issues with the packages.

Yes, for Ubuntu Focal, Qt4 was removed from the Ubuntu repositories.
To install LyX, you will also need to add the ppa:rock-core/qt4 PPA to
your sources (https://launchpad.net/~rock-core/+archive/ubuntu/qt4).

I've now added a note on this on the PPA.

I've now uploaded a new build dropping the libboost-signals-dev

Focal test if they can now install LyX from the PPA?

I did notice this issue with the build, but wasn't sure how to
approach it. It's not exactly clear to me why Ubuntu Focal would have
difficulties installing 'libboost-signals1.67-dev' on a fresh image. I
would need to test a few things just to understand why this is
happening.

Unfortunately these days available time is very limited, and I don't
have handy access to a Focal system either, so debugging this will
likely take a few weeks. If someone has an idea why this issue is
occurring on Focal (and how to fix it), please contact me off-list.

I didn't continue doing the previous stable release packages as a
separate install (like I did for 1.6 and 2.0) as it didn't seem like
there was enough demand. I may reconsider this going forward.

If you're building from source, it's very easy to achieve this, and
you would only need to use this argument when configuring, e.g.:
--with-version-suffix=2.2

This will take care of most things, like renaming the binary to
'lyx2.2', the share and home folders to 'lyx2.2', etc. It works
surprisingly well. You should even be able to do make install, and in
principle it shouldn't clash with the existing install from the PPA.

Although it's necessarily more complicated, for inspiration you can
always take a look at, e.g., the lyx2.0 packages. Just fetch e.g.:
lyx2.0_2.0.8.1-2~trusty~ppa1.debian.tar.gz

and inspect the 'debian/rules' file. It will list the config options.

Perfect, thank you.

Do we document this (i.e. explicitly controlling the order of loaded
packages) somewhere? I've quickly searched the docs before firing the
email, but couldn't find something (I checked User's Guide B.21 and

how to load hyperref before titlesec to avoid off-sync links?

2016-11-09 Thread Liviu Andronic
Dear all,
In a document I want to start new page with each section, and follow
this recipe for that:
http://tex.stackexchange.com/questions/9497/start-new-page-with-each-section/9505?noredirect=1#comment829734_9505

\usepackage{titlesec}
\newcommand{\sectionbreak}{\clearpage}

The problem arises because if you use hyperref and a ToC, the links
get off-sync. For instance, clicking on Section 2 in the ToC will
bring you to p3, whereas this section is on p4 (see attached). The
solution it seems is to make sure that hyperref is loaded before
titlesec, but I'm at a loss as to how to achieve this.

I tried:
\AtBeginDocument{
\usepackage{titlesec}
\newcommand{\sectionbreak}{\clearpage}
}

but it (as expected) doesn't improve things. Any ideas?

I remember order of package loading in LyX has been discussed before,
but I can't recall what's the current state of things...

Regards,
Liviu

Different toolkit. Check Qt4 Settings, maybe. There is also the issue
of some Apple patents that may or may not get in the way, depending on
the distro and how packages/deps are built. Also see if things are
different with a different DE (e.g. Xfce, which has aliasing and
pixels facilities).

What is your Help > About > Build info? I'm wondering if it's worth
giving the Qt5 version a shot, assuming you have a recent version
available.

If all else fails, perhaps it would be a good idea to open a ticket
including the screen captures and detailed info on your system/build.

No, this isn't TeX related. This seems to affect strictly the display in LyX.

What you're describing seems to be related to aliasing/hinting. What
OS / DE are you using?

I would suggest that this is a good question for

expert with a solution within the day (or an already existing question
on this). I would expect this would have to do with some penalty of
sorts either from LaTeX or from fancyhdr.

Actually that's a 'not yet'. 2.2.0 will be installed on top of 2.1.4.
I'm still to prepare the separate packages for 2.1.5 (which would
indeed install alongside 2.2.0), but this won't come until the end of

If you specifically select an item in Clipman, then all you get is the
note contents (i.e. plain text). Otherwise, simple copy/paste without
accessing the clipboard's history results in the LyX Note being

The PPA packages are built against 4.8. Qt 4.5 seems like non-standard
for Ubuntu 16.04.

I've now prepared a "LyX Qt5 (release)" specifically for packages of
LyX built against Qt5 >=5.5.1 :
https://launchpad.net/~lyx-devel/+archive/ubuntu/release-qt5

For now only Xenial packages are available. Older Qt5 releases have
significant problems with LyX, so older Ubuntu distros are not
supported.

Those who need HiDPI support please check the packages (they will
replace your current Qt4 builds) and report on the list if you
encounter issues.

A quick search shows you need to install texlive-latex-extra. Not sure
about mparlack.sty, though.

Here it should probably be texlive-bibtex-extra and texlive-fonts-extra.

In any case, either apt-get install -f or uninstalling then

I'm with Richard here: Simple step (1) checkbox might be sufficient.
If someone makes use of complicated microtype parameters, then
Preamble seems the way to go (instead of the GUI checkbox).

The only question: what happens if user has selected both checkbox and
added a separate \usepackage[param1]{microtype} call in Preamble?

If you encounter data loss instances, a very good approach is to use
an automatic backup software like SpiderOak which keeps ALL historical
copies available to the user (or Dropbox which for free keeps only
30-days worth of historic copies). If something awry goes up, you have
a very recent backup handy.

Second, this sounds like a data loss bug affecting LyX. It would be
very helpful to the devels if you could come up with a very simple
example of master/child combination exhibiting the issue, and post it
here or on the bug tracker. See this:
http://wiki.lyx.org/FAQ/MinimalExample

The only way for our devels to see what's wrong is for you to provide
a simple self-contained example LyX file (see above). It is entirely
possible the issue happens on your system only, or only on your
platform, etc., so the devels can't replicate your issue. Otherwise
it's only guesswork...

Such complex set-ups can affect bugs manifesting themselves or not, so
minimal examples are crucial, as explained above.

I suspect that "LyX-Code" is not defined in the Elsevier-class layout
file. You could try to copy the "LyX-Code" definition from the Koma
layout to your file's local layout.

Have you considered using xtable or stargazer to export regression
tables to LaTeX, and copy/paste the output in an ERT inset in your LyX
document?

I recall reading some time ago that if we switched the LyX source to

Usually you take an existing working layout example as close to what
you need, try to understand its syntax by looking at the reference
manual, then try to modify as you think would yield useful results.

LaTeX distribution first. If you want to make sure LyX is not the
culprit, export to LaTeX and try to compile that.

Right. So this is about a collection of macro names. Same approach
would be useful with Sweave/knitr chunks, using their labels (and
numbering, especially when labels are missing) in the Outliner.

This is the PPA Overview page:
https://launchpad.net/~lyx-devel/+archive/ubuntu/release

You simply need to:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:lyx-devel/release

Then update packages in Synaptic, and update LyX.

Try to investigate /etc/apt/sources.list . Sometimes it's very fussy
about formatting, so if you did recent changes try to revert them.

You may try
sudo apt-get remove --purge openoffice.org-thesaurus-de-ch

But this has little to do with LyX. You may seek help elsewhere, e.g.
askubuntu.com .

There is no way in layout modules to control the height of these insets.

I have roughly the same gripe with a number of insets, e.g. with the

inconsistent with the remaining paragraph.

Is this something intentional, or is it something we could avoid?

Drawing for these is controlled by InsetCollapsable::draw, and the various
dimensions are hard-coded there. So Index entries (also collapsables) work
the same way, e.g. It is annoying how the line height shifts when you open
and close them. Perhaps playing with the dimensions here would make sense.

This is again a collapsable inset. All of them will have the same problem
unless they override InsetCollapsable::draw. As I said in the original
reply, one could play with the dimensions in that routine to try to fix
 this.

It might be worth filing a bug.

Maybe it may be useful for other users.

So I attach my script (together with pyparsing.py library) to this email.

Please add info about my script to Lyx.org site. (I know no password to
upload the files and thus cannot do it myself without your help.)

 From my script:

 # This script receives a list of *.lyx filenames in command line.
 # In each .lyx file it searches for labels consecutively following one after
 another.
 # Then it removes all but the first label and in all supplied .lyx files
 corrects
 # the references to refer to this label.
 # It's useful to remove duplicate labels.

 # Note that this script works with patched pyparsing.py (added
 addCondition() method).

 Hi Sutanuka,

This is possibly a lyx2lyx bug. You can instead use 2.0.8.1 (download
here: ftp://ftp.lyx.org/pub/lyx/bin/2.0.8.1/), which uses the same
format as 2.0.5. If you would like to help us fix the bug, please
create a minimal example (see wiki.lyx.org/FAQ/MinimalExample). The
way to do that would be to use 2.0.5, delete half of the .lyx file
that is causing the problem, save and then open on 2.1.3. If there is
an error, then in 2.0.5 delete another half and keep iterating. If
there was not an error, then delete the other half.

To do a few simple things to make sure everything else is fine, can
you open a very simple document in your 2.1.3 that you created in
2.0.5 (e.g. a hello world document)? Can you compile a simple
 document in 2.1.3?

Please respond to the list, and not to me personally.

 Best,

 Scott

 Hi Scott,

Thank you very much. I used 2.0.8 instead of 2.1.3 and the problem is
 solved.
To answer your second question, yes, I opened and compiled a small lyx
file in 2.1.3, which was originally generated using 2.0.5. I was able to
generate pdf from it. But the problem starts only when the file is
large. Actually this file is a ieee paper having more than 8 figures and
 five tables.

It's possible that the failure happens not because the
file is large in itself, but because it contains something lyx2lyx is
unable to handle correctly.

Thank you once again for helping me out. I was almost on the verge of
blaming my new laptop (bought only yesterday) and was thinking of
changing it. You saved my days. Will it be possible to fix this bug so
that we can successfully port files from 2.0.5 to 2.1.3 ?

Please use Scott's steps to either test the file with 2.0.8.1, or to
come up with a minimal example exhibiting the issue in 2.1.x (the
latter being the only way we could pinpoint the problem and see if it
can be addressed).

 Liviu,

I'm becoming more comfortable with knitr in lyx, yet cannot find answers
to some questions in the above page. For example, in a figure chunk I create
an option box and enter fig.cap='some caption text' and fig.lp=1 as the
lable prefix. What I have not found is how to enter a cross-reference to
 that figure.

If you rely on knitr for the bookkeeping, then you would need to
copy/paste an existing cross-reference from your document and then use
e.g. fig:foo-plot in the cross-ref. LyX will probably complain that
it doesn't exist (displaying BROKEN), but in principle it should work
on compilation.

Another way to do this is to keep figure floats, labels and cross-refs
exclusively in LyX. So the chunk would simply output a graph, and you
place the chunk within a LyX float (with associated caption and
label). Then use normal LyX workflow.

Regards,
Liviu

When I follow the menus to enter a cross-reference the choice box is
empty. In Yihui's knitr book I find no presentation of figure options nor
 how to reference them.

Might as well keep this in the same thread for posterity's sake.

The first figure addes in a float allowed the document to be compiled with
pdflatex. When I added a new paragraph with a second figure float
compilation fails but the explicit error is not shown.

Knitr seems to be picky about label names of figure chunks to be
unique. Check this. Also, to be safe, keep to one figure per chunk. As
for the log, I think some knitr messages aren't in the log per se, but
are displayed in the Messages pane. Inspect that for clues.

Liviu

I created a small test file from the document that contains all the knitr
chunks and the two figure floats. Attached is the .lyx file (version 2.1.3),
the /tmp/.../.log file, and the .RData file from the working directory. This
should be enough to replicate the document. I cannot find the error in the
log file; more experienced eyes than mine probably can. It is puzzling that
the one figure worked, but adding an additional figure broke something.

Because this document will have many figures I need to understand how to
avoid compilation errors as writing continues.

 Thanks,

 Rich

 Liviu,

Yes, I read about naming lables; that's why knitr has the lp option for
label prefix. In my case, one lable is 'scatter plot group 1' and the other
is 'scatter plot group 2.' There is only one figure per chunk.

Not necessarily. There are LaTeX labels associated with figures; and
knitr labels associated with chunks. The latter MUST be unique for
figure chunks, while fig.lp seems to affect the former.

To be on the safe side, just manually ensure you have unique labels
for figure chunks.

As for the log, I think some knitr messages aren't in the log per se, but

I didn't think of opening the message pane. Problems with the first figure
produced the LyX error window; these issues with the second figure do not
display that 2-window log message, only a fixed message that there's a
 problem with the file.

Here's the final portion of the message pane:

The figure chunk is unnamed. Better to use a chunk label.
