ChkTeX and LyX-1.3.2
Hello, since a while Iam trying to make ChkTeX run without success! When running this from commandline everything is fine, chktex parses latex files without complaints. But, when running chktex from within LyX an error message is given: ChkTeX was not successful! Error while executing 'filename.tex' And ChkTeX seemingly does not work! That is not true, since ChkTeX runs from commandline smoothly!!! Another question comes to my mind!. After exporting my LyX file (germanized hollywood class) to latex, I received lots of warnings but no error messages. When trying to view the same file in LyX I receive 10 error messages and nothing is displayed (gv)!?? That is, latex refuses to convert the file to ps! What is a difference between messages of errors in LyX and warnings in ChkTeX? What can I do about this? Thomas LyX-1.3.2 ChkTeX 1.5-7

Hello, I am trying to use French "arcons", i.e. I try to write Nachtcafe, but can't get the proper sign for the "arcon de whatever" (forgooten the true naming for the moment!) LyX-gt 1.3.0 is installed, using (default) cua binding. I have already tried to use META (META + ' at the same time, then typing e), SHIFT etc. to generate the wanted char, but was in bad luck!? Spellchecker once again
Hello, after switching from xforms to LyX-qt-1.3.0 I had some troubles to get running my spellchecker! Following the advice of Juergen I retrieved new GNU-Aspell and the German dictionary (aspell-de) packages. After building debs (for Woody) I installed these by using checkinstall. Everything went on smoothly, but finally I receive same old, weird error message, that LyX doesn't find a suitable wordlist to the tag"deutsch". Ok, so I tried to customize under preferences menue an appropriate wordlist (which actually reside in /usr/local/lib). Suprise, in preferences on "personal wordbook" I only find that LyX is looking for *.ispell files, which aren't install at default by aspell-0.50-3!! Here is /usr/local/lib/aspell ls de_CH.multi de_DE.multi de.multi deutsch.alias swiss.alias de_CH-only.rws de_DE-only.rws de-only.rws german.alias A global search on *.ispell ended up unsuccessfully!? Even Johns proprosal to make softlink form german to deutsch seems to be not working since there are no files named like this!? So this brings me back to my former question how to manage getting my spellchecker to work? Do I miss something!? cheers Thomas
Spellchecker once again
Hello, now things go on rapidly into dullness! I've compiled LyX-1.3.0 "./configure --with-qt --with-pspell on my Woody box! Whole process ended up making a deb file by using checkinstall, when trying to install this deb I get this error message: env LC_ALL=C dpkg -i lyx_1.3.0-1_i386.deb > (Reading database ... 100596 files and directories currently installed.) > Unpacking lyx (from lyx_1.3.0-1_i386.deb) ... > dpkg: error processing lyx_1.3.0-1_i386.deb (--install): > trying to overwrite > `/usr/share/texmf/fonts/type1/bluesky/cm/cmex10.pfb', which is also in > package tetex-extra > dpkg-deb: subprocess paste killed by signal (Broken pipe) > Errors were encountered while processing: > lyx_1.3.0-1_i386.deb I really stunned to note that LyX tries to override (/usr/share/texmf/fonts/type1/bluesky/cm/cmex10.pfb) a file which is actually installed by tetex-extra 1.0.2+20011202 installation! Hm, is this a bug? What to do now!? Thomas

I don't run debian, but isn't there some sort of "alien" program which can turn an RPM into a .deb? ---Kayvan There might be a good chance to create deb packages form tar.gz by using checkinstall. I did it serveral times and it worked. I don't know if these packages are really GNU/Linux compatible, at least I can report good experiences by creating RPMs which work well for RH7.2! Thomas

Linebreak in tables
Hello, Iam using Lyx-1.1.6fix4 and trying to layout my longtable (without a float).I want to break lines in all cells of my table. As it is said in the docs you have to launch the dialog on tables and define the width of a column and text will automatically layouted as wanted. So I insert a 10cm to invoke linebreaking but nothing happens!? Everytime I come back to tables dialog the inserted 10cm has disappeared. Differently to Lyx-1.1.6fix3 (where there was obviously an option for linebreak within table cells as I remember)I miss/couldn't find this option in Lyx-1.1.6fix4. So my questions : 1. is the linebreak-option definitely gone? (at least where to find it?) 2. how to manage linebreaks in tables in Lyx-1.1.6fix4 generally? 3. Any idea why the inserted width of 10cm in tables dialog diseappears repeatedly? cheers Thomas

If I remember right, you need to TAB from the 10cm-field to another field to make the setting permanent (it will vanish if you just [save] after inserting the fixed width). The next oddity is, that linebreaks with Ctrl-Enter will just change the Look-On-Screen (again, if I remember right) and not go to the output. while the autmatic line-wrapping occures only in the dvi output. This is very curious because when writing my diploma with Lyx sometime ago everythingwas really fine, especially the automatic line wrapping. Perhaps I am totally wrong but earlier versions of Lyx worked better in setting tables, at least for me ! ;-) Thanks for response Thomas BTW: CRTL.and ENTER combination actually breaks the lines in Lyx as well as in GV Guenter -- [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Hello all LyXers, I've just installed LyX-1.1.6fix4 and as before I really like very much (special thanks to the developers and Matej, who gracefully compiled the sources for RH7.0 and provided the appropriate xforms version!!!) First I made a curious oberservation: When pushing the menue button of save the button stays pushed after the acutal saving process has ceased! (I am not quite sure if this is really a bug, but hasn't oberserved before in fix3) Secondly: I wish to nest a items in a description enviroment which is splendidly explained in the docs (!) It should look like this: 1. description # itemize #item #item 2. description and so on Unfortunately whenever I start to use the descritption enviroment, counting starts with 1. again. I would prefer a continious counter like description 1., 2., 3. and so on...! In case of staying unclear I have added an examplefile! Does anybody know how to make this thing go? I already had a look at Herberts Website and inserted \renewcommand\labelenumi{\Alph{enumi}} \renewcommand\labelenumii{\Alph{enumi}-\Alph{enumii}} in latex preamble to change enumerationsstyle, without reaching successful ends.although this is what I wanted on base of numbers Greets Thomas #LyX 1.1 created this file. Hey, this is quite a bit OT. I regularily run into troubles using my Mailfilters (serveral for LyX and others) in Mozilla 0.9.6. This is because people adress their mailss primarily to people who started a thread and secondly to this user-list.(BTW these people receive this message twice!) Therefore I used to find a mess in my mailbox because mails of different sources are messed into one folder. Maybe I am not the only one who faces this problem? So I would like to see people to adress primarily to the user-list and if necessary at all secondly cc-ing to other LyXers. Please make up your mind and tell me what you are thinking about this Maybe there is a workaround and I am not aware of:-)) Any statements solely to my adress, don't flood this list, please! Thomas
