Newbie stuff... (UNCLASSIFIED)

Lyx folks,

I am sorry to post this as I am likely making some obvious newbie mistake.

I am using WinXP SP3. I install MikTeX followed by LyX and many (not all) of
the documents listed under Help simply do not export nor can they be reduced
to any pdf form. I keep getting Undefined control sequence.

It is likely something obvious, however, I would suggest the website should
have a list of installation instructions for the more common operating systems.

Again, for experienced users, I'm sure the fix is obvious. For a newbie like
me, it isn't.

Respectfully...

You are probably missing packages. Read the notes (the text with a
yellow background) at the beginning of the help files to see what
packages are recommended for installing. If you still have trouble,
please send the error log.

You can download the pdfs here:

Mark,

Please respond to the lyx-users@lists.lyx.org email address (or
respond all). When you get an error you should see a window pop up. Do
you? What are the errors in that window? In addition to that summary
of errors, you can click on View Complete Log and then Copy to
Clipboard to get the full LaTeX log.

I would suggest that you go MiKTeX Settings (admin) or similar,
select 'Install packages' 'on-the-fly' then go to LyX Tools
Reconfigure and restart LyX. You likely selected 'do not install
packages on the fly' when installing LyX and thus you didn't get all
the necessary classes and packages. (We've had some lengthy
discussions on this list on this particular subject.)
