Re: Recommendations for a keyboard for an iPad mini?

2024-04-07 Thread 'Donna Goodin' via MacVisionaries
Hi Michael,

Yeah, I was at an Apple store recently looking at the Magic Keyboard. Looks
very nice. I’d probably get the smaller one, because I don’t really have a
need for the numberpad. I was thinking I’d either get that one or one of the
Logitechs. I don’t think I’ve seen the keys to go, but I will check it out.
Thank you for the recommendation.
Cheers,
Donna

Re: Recommendations for a keyboard for an iPad mini?

2024-04-07 Thread Mary Otten
Hi Donna,
I am probably one of the few who still likes full-size keyboards with lots of
key travel and mechanical switches. To that end, I recently purchased a
Logitech MX mechanical keyboard to use with my iPad mini. It is certainly
larger than most. It has the full number pad. It has some spacing between the
different sets of keys. It has the arrow keys with space around them so you can
actually tell where and what they are. so it may not be for you. But it’s
cheaper than the Apple keyboard for sure. I got it at Best Buy and I don’t
remember what I paid, but I saw the Apple keyboards there and they were
substantially more money.

Re: Recommendations for a keyboard for an iPad mini?

2024-04-07 Thread Michael Irons
Hi Donna, one Bluetooth keyboard that you could get, that would probably work
could be the Apple Magic Keyboard. They sell it in the Apple store. I have an
iPad Pro, and I chose to get the larger Apple Magic Keyboard with the number
pad on it. This keyboard works with my iPad. I believe the only difference
between the iPad that I have in the one that you have is probably the size.
There are probably some other keyboards that would work, but the Apple magic is
the one that I know that works. If you wanted to look at other keyboards, you
could look at the logitech keys to go keyboard which they sell at Best Buy. The
logitech keys to go. Keyboard works with my iPhone, and, would probably work
with my iPad if I wanted to use that keyboard with it. if you have any
questions, you’re welcome to email me off the list if you wish.

Re: Sonoma 14.4.1 CAPS LOCK won't pause speech when chosen as the VO key

2024-04-07 Thread Brad Snyder
The VoiceOver key for pausing speech is the Control key.
This has nothing to do with what you have selected as the VO modifier.
While pressing another key may or may not stop speech, is another issue
entirely.
You can test this by enabling Keyboard Help, by pressing VO + K, and pressing
CTRL, to hear VoiceOver speak what this key does.

Re: Sonoma 14.4.1 CAPS LOCK won't pause speech when chosen as the VO key

2024-04-07 Thread Brad Snyder
OK, I just started keyboard help, and I hear nothing when I press the CTRL key.
However, I have been using a Mac with VoiceOver everyday for over 13 years, and
pressing the CTRL key is, and has always been the designated key for pausing
speech when VoiceOver is running.

Sonoma 14.4.1 CAPS LOCK won't pause speech when chosen as the VO key

2024-04-07 Thread Kevin Gibbs
Guys,

I seldom post or visit here. But here’s one where you all might have some
guidance for me. I have an M1 MacBook Pro running Sonoma 14.4.1. I updated
from 14.3 point something. Ever since 14.4.1, I’ve noticed that the CAPS LOCK
key will not pause speech in any Mac application. Curiously, the Control Key
does pause speech, even when it is not part of the VO key. That is, when you
choose CAPS LOCk exclusively, Control should not pause speech. It does. In no
case will CAPS LOCK pause speech.

I’ve tried this on my M1 and on my wife’s M1 with the same results. My wife is
sighted and does not use VO. She also does not have any unusual third party
apps like Sibelius that needs the CAPS LOCk for pause because it highjacks the
Control key to move the user between the ribbon and the musical score you’re
writing in.

But both my wife and I have noticed the same behavior. Another gentleman in
Germany has confirmed my findings. He is a Sibelius user but says his CAPS
LOCk fails in Apple programs as well.
Again, any effort you could make to test this and let me know if CAPS lock
pauses VO speech would be very much appreciated.

Thanks,
Kevin
