An end user experience
Some might be interrested in this blog entry I came across some time ago: http://rachelbythebay.com/w/2012/07/27/770/ I found it interresting because this is the opinion of a geek who's not involved in any way with any part of the product. She was right in the middle of the customer target. Yet, she did not liked the product because it was too slow (and troubles to get bluetooth to work). ___ maemo-users mailing list maemo-users@maemo.org https://lists.maemo.org/mailman/listinfo/maemo-users
Re: N900 consumes too much power
-[ Sun, Aug 05, 2012 at 10:52:29AM +0200, Pavel ??ezní??ek ] Dear comaemoers, I have recently read an article, a review of Nokia N900. The reviewer stated that his device lasts 3 days on battery when only sometimes calling or writing SMS. This is what I hardly can believe because my N900 lasts only 3, max. 6 hours on battery and then the battery gets discharged. Was the reviewer kidding or is something wrong with my mobile computer? Mine, whith it's quite old battery, can probably last 2 days with this kind of usage (but browsing the web on wifi empty the batterie on 3/4 hours). I'd say you have a program installed that ruins the battery life. ___ maemo-users mailing list maemo-users@maemo.org https://lists.maemo.org/mailman/listinfo/maemo-users
Re: N900 consumes too much power
-[ Sun, Aug 05, 2012 at 08:20:17PM +0200, Pavel ??ezní??ek ] I am connected all the time to WiFi at home. But even outdoors when not connected, my battery discharges in a couple of hours. You should try setting the N900 in flight mode (or offline mode, whatever it's called) so you can make certain your's not using wifi nor 3g nor anything. Then see how long your phone lasts. Also, while doing so, open a terminal and run top for a minute or two to check CPU usage by programs. Top itself and Xorg should be on top, with only a few % of CPU. ___ maemo-users mailing list maemo-users@maemo.org https://lists.maemo.org/mailman/listinfo/maemo-users
Re: Christmass Vim wish (color scheme)
to all the rest I have set background dark on my .vimrc but as vim's own help on set background says, Setting this option does not change the background color, it tells Vim what the background color looks like. For changing the background color, see |:hi-normal|. darkground=dark is not supposed to change your bg color but to inform vim that used colors must be visible on a dark background. You should try it. ___ maemo-users mailing list maemo-users@maemo.org https://lists.maemo.org/mailman/listinfo/maemo-users
Re: MfE sync with Google Calendar - doesn't sync since yesterday
-[ Sat, Aug 14, 2010 at 10:25:13AM +0100, Dawid Lorenz (maemobile) ] Anyone else experiencing issues with MfE sync with Google Calendar since yesterday evening (GMT), or is this just me? It used to work flawlessly for couple of months, so I assume it's just temporary problem. I just tried and it works here and now. ___ maemo-users mailing list maemo-users@maemo.org https://lists.maemo.org/mailman/listinfo/maemo-users
Pulseausio allocating +40Mo of RAM ?
Hello ! I periodically run memstat on the N900 to check for apps that could leak memory (in order to find a culprit for some unresponsiveness issue), and I'm surprised to discover that every time pulse audio is the process that uses the most memory. See for instance here : memstat -w | grep pulseaudio 75848k: PID 768 (/usr/bin/pulseaudio) 72k( 68k): /usr/bin/pulseaudio 768 So the text of the binary itself is rather small (libs are counted separately), but the heap is 75M while the device is idle and not outputing anything. Is it normal ? Out of curiosity, what's the purpose of all this ram when idle ? does pulseaudio keep some huge precalc datas of some sort ? If not, wouldn't be better to just discard this RAM when its no more needed, in order to prevent swapping, which is quite slow ? What do you think ? ___ maemo-users mailing list maemo-users@maemo.org https://lists.maemo.org/mailman/listinfo/maemo-users
Re: possible bug in N900 Maemo 5 desktop ??
-[ Tue, Jan 05, 2010 at 09:44:45PM +0100, Henrik Madsen ] As ordinary users of the N900/N810 systems we are also woundering what the purpose of all Marks non-appropriate and very negative comments are. As an ordinary user of the n810, I am, not unlike Mark, a bit disatisfied by the overall quality of the maemo software stack and discouraged by the fact that the new maemo does not seam to attempt to fix previous issues but instead start from scratch the same thing again. And like Mark I'm not confident any more that Nokia will manage to provide us with the mobile software stack that free software is lacking. And I'm not paid by any other company to say that - of course I wont buy a Nexus nor an iPhone nor a Pre nor anything (my daily phone is a freerunner). I will stop reading this ML since questionning the quality of maemo is apparently out of topic. Good luck. ___ maemo-users mailing list maemo-users@maemo.org https://lists.maemo.org/mailman/listinfo/maemo-users
