Re: [Mailman-Users] Dear name field
Hi, You can enable personalization for the list. If you don't see the 'personalize' settings on the Non-digest options list admin page, you or your provider need to enable it by putting OWNERS_CAN_ENABLE_PERSONALIZATION = Yes in mm_cfg.py. Then you can put something like Dear %(user_name)s, But there is one more issue here, I think. Not every uses signs up by entering their name. I am not sure but you will probably get Dear , in that case. Also, sometimes users put nicknames like I hate you and the like stuff. You can easily imagine the effect here. ;) So in other words, if you cannot make sure all users have names in Mailman database, it may not be worth it. -- Zbigniew Szalbot -- Mailman-Users mailing list Mailman-Users@python.org http://mail.python.org/mailman/listinfo/mailman-users Mailman FAQ: http://wiki.list.org/x/AgA3 Searchable Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/mailman-users%40python.org/ Unsubscribe: http://mail.python.org/mailman/options/mailman-users/archive%40jab.org Security Policy: http://wiki.list.org/x/QIA9

Hi Jaione, Jaione Arrieta: Hi I have a mailing list, I´m the administrator that is I´m a user and have no idea of programming, and I used to have the same mailing list in mailman but with an older version and worked just fine and I was very happy with it but had to change servers and my hosting service upload the version available a month ago which is the version 2.1.9.cp2 and I´m having many problems with this version _postings take very long time to arrived if they do, because some postings arrive to some members and others to other members and some they don´t arrive to anybody even if they get to the archive, and if there is an important subject to discuss there´s no way to make it interesting cause many people don´t get the messages, and even if they send a message it doesn´t arrive to many people, an I need the mailing list to be fast an active as it was before and I´m having lot´s of complains... _all of the sudden all the memebers for example the m members get unsuscribe at the same time and I put them back and then all the members that start with p get unsuscribe at the same time and I don´t have time to check all the time all the members usually I have to do it two or three times a day I´m really not very happy with this version, is there a way to go back to an older version ? or what can I do to make it work just fine with no problems? I am sure others will have better ideas but it seems to me you may want to use a different provider which offers good mailman support so that you do not have to worry about underlying details - i.e. it is their responsibility to make mailman work as expected. Hello, Mark Sapiro pisze: How do you catch this? If you've received the post from the list, it is very likely that by the time you are able to react, Mailman will have completed its delivery to the MTA. Yes, Mark is right. This reminds me about China Olympics where the tv broadcast is said to have delays of about 20 seconds. Maybe, this is an option for the future - custom defned delays per list (delays between a message is received by Mailman and passed on to MTA)? I can hardly imagine this is useful unless someone watches over a list all the time or the delay is really big (like 8 hours or so)? Re: [Mailman-Users] changing Mailman layout
Mark Sapiro pisze: First of all, if you think you're saving anything by including a relative or absolute path as the href= value of the stylesheet link as opposed to a URL, you are not. If you have for example in your template that becomes http://www.example.com/mailman/listinfo/list, something like link rel=stylesheet type=text/css href=css/stylesheet.css that gets sent to the browser just as is, and the browser considers that as relative to the base URL and does an HTTP GET of path /mailman/listinfo/css/stylesheet.css from www.example.com to get the style sheet. The two points are: - it is no different in terms of HTTP interaction from the case of putting an absolute URL in the href=, and - in this example at least, it doesn't work because the web server has a ScriptAlias for /mailman/ so the web server processes this request by invoking Mailman's listinfo cgi wrapper which isn't going to serve the stylesheet. You probably can specify a full directory path to the css, but the web server will still look for it relative to the servers document root, and it isn't really any different from specifying it as a URL. All this is true and I well realize that. The example with css is simple. No problem. I actually have a problem with a javascript file that the layoput designer has used. I am suspecting it won't display because I have to use a complete URL instead of a relative one as often is a case with javascripts. Maybe the same principle applies. Hi there, Stephen J. Turnbull: This is a market to gain for Mailman but it currently lacks a few features to do that. Well, my post is slowly getting off topic But IMO it would be quite on-topic for mailman-developers. This kind of post would be more effective in inciting dev activity if more focused. Eg, rather than talking about markets to gain, which sounds good but generally doesn't attract a lot of dev effort, talk about specific tasks and their needs, and the specific features that could be extended or added to satisfy them. Remember, AIUI at least, the devs have little experience with these usages so concrete details of requirements would be very helpful. You're absolutely right, but given that I cannot really sponsor new Mailman features I felt not quite an appropriate person to suggest them. I am trying to give some of my time to handle Polish translation of Mailman but this is about all I can give to this project. Re: [Mailman-Users] Feature Request: Selective Mass Subscription
Hi all, I have to disagree. Anything that can be done with the Mailman mass subscribe feature can be done just as effectively with a contact list on Gmail, in theory.[1] It's other aspects of Gmail policy that (so far at least) make that a small enough problem that I've never considered filtering on ^(From|Sender):[EMAIL PROTECTED]. Quite a long thread but important issues on their own. Let me just make one point. I think that we're really talking about two contexts: 1/ Mailman as a discussion list - like the one we're having here. I don't imagine spammers would be setting up their lists as discussion list, would they? I don't actually imagine big time spammers using mailman. They're all about botnets. 2/ Mailman as a newsletter/announcement list. I can't sponsor the developers (sad but true) but I'd love to see Mailman giving me an option to create either discussion or announcement list with pre-set features for each of them. One of these pre-sets could be in fact the presence or absence of mass-subscribe feature defined per list during list creation. If I don't really know the people I am giving a list to administer, I would be tempted, especially with an announcement list, to turn off mass subscribe feature. Mailman is getting better and better no doubt about it. However, if I understand the current trends, discussion lists are dropped in favour of online forums and newsletter/marketing tools are more and more sought after. This is a market to gain for Mailman but it currently lacks a few features to do that. Well, my post is slowly getting off topic so I will just wrap it up by thanking the developers for a very good software I am able to use! Otherwise the Cc: to the list is put there intentionally to facilitate replying to the list (via reply-all) since the list address will not be in the normal From:, To: or Reply-To: If you don't want this, you'd have to modify Mailman/Handlers/CookHeaders.py. Thank you Mark! I edited this file and - since I am no programmer - I just commented out lines 161, 162, 165-172 and restarted mailman. Initial tests show that the CC header does not get added. I put it on my journal to watch for this file when I update mailman in future. [Mailman-Users] full personalization and CC field

Re: [Mailman-Users] misleading description
Hello, This message only appears for a non-member if the roster is non-public (available only to the admin or to list members). With a public roster, the message is 'No such member: [EMAIL PROTECTED]'. Ah, I see. In today's world an option for members to see other members' addresses sounds dangerous and may even be such. But I see now why this happens. Granted the message could be changed from The confirmation email has been sent. to something like The confirmation email has been sent if [EMAIL PROTECTED] is a list member. Do you think this would help? Yes, it would be a lot more informative. Maybe in future it would be better to just disallow anyone to view a member's list and give a clear indication whether email has or has not been sent. If the unsubscribe script cannot be exploited remotely, then I do not see probing as a real threat (especially if additionally secured by some captcha code or the like). But then I may not see all the consequences of such solution. [Mailman-Users] misleading description
Hi all, I wonder if it is possible to change a description which appears on options page when you try to unsubscribe. Suppose you enter your email address at the general list information page. Then the options page gets displayed and you click the Unsubscribe button. There appears a message: The confirmation email has been sent. This is all right if you entered the right email address. But if by mistake you have entered an email address you are not subscribed with, the page still claims that a confirmation email has been sent but in fact it hasn't. I have run into this problem recently. I have pressed the Unsubscribe button a few times and waited for the confirmation email. However, it has never arrived. Only later did I realize I was trying to unsubscribe with a wrong email address. I think a message like No such address in our database would be a lot more helpful. Re: [Mailman-Users] Turning off digests
Dear Marc, Nothing you did created that option. That option was always there. The purpose of the script was to set the option to No for all lists so you wouldn't have to do it manually for each list via the web. If that didn't happen, there was something wrong with the script or the way it was run. Now I am even more ashamed... You do the mailing and some addresses are removed from Mailman. Re: [Mailman-Users] Mailman discarding messages
Hello again, I forgot one - post from non-member and generic_nonmember_action is Discard. Yes, post is from non-member and generic_nonmember_action is Hold. There is no additional debugging without actually patching the code, but you could set forward_auto_discards to Yes (or maybe it is Already set but I am not informed of a discard action I just see it in the vette log. already). If forward_auto_discards is Yes, the owner will get an Auto-discard notification if and only if the message is discarded because of discard_these_nonmembers or generic_nonmember_action, so that might help narrow it down. Re: [Mailman-Users] Full personalization and HTML problems
Hello, 2008/3/17, Mark Sapiro [EMAIL PROTECTED]: Zbigniew Szalbot wrote: I am being told by some subscribers that the HTML emails they receive via a list run by Mailman contain attachments, although the original emails have none. In message body they only have their email address and attached they have a file called ATT00351.htm and two inline images which were part of the email. So if they want to see the content, they need to open the html attachment. Something is adding a mime part to the front of the message. This could be a Mailman msg_header (if msg_header is 'empty', make sure it is really empty and not just 'blank'), or it could be something (like a disclaimer) added by any MTA/MDA the message passed through on the way to the recipient. I have now switched to no personalization at all but I am not sure this will be enough. As for other settings, I do not have anything added by Mailmain in footers. Scrub attachments of regular delivery message? is set to No. Personalization is not doing it unless it is triggering something outside of Mailman which is unlikely. msg_header it the only Mailman setting which will do this in Mailman. Also, with Full Personalization, it would seem there is no need to put %(user_address)s in msg_header as the address is already in the To: header of the message. Not sure why I have always thought that %(user_address)s is required by the full personalization option. Thanks Mark - this is probably solving the issue! [Mailman-Users] improper shutdown causes mailman not to start?
Hello, I rebooted my machine today and mailman wouldn't start. Feb 27 06:46:56 2008 mailmanctl(692): The master qrunner lock could not be acquired. It appears as though there is a stale master qrunner lock. Try re-running mailmanctl with the -s flag. Now could the reason be that mailman startup script did not have the -s flag? mailman_start() { /usr/local/mailman/bin/mailmanctl -q start } I removed it recently because I was having problem with two instances of mailman at startup. But I then realized I had two different scripts to start mailman so I removed one. I did not however change the main (and now only) startup script in /usr/local/etc/rc.d/ to have the -s flag included. Re: [Mailman-Users] Mailman postings deferred by Yahoo
Hi, 2008/2/20, Rick Harris [EMAIL PROTECTED]: My hosting company tells me that the mail logs indicate that the majority of Mailman's messages to Yahoo addresses return a deferred message. Here is the complete message: This is not even remotely mailman related. I have the same issue with normal mail. Contact yahoo, they reply initially, then keep quiet and nothing changes. Re: [Mailman-Users] Mailman postings deferred by Yahoo
Hello, 2008/2/20, Rick Harris [EMAIL PROTECTED]: Yes. I am on a shared server. It seems that Yahoo picks up on the fact that this is going to multiple recipients (apparent 5+ raises the flag). Since I am on a shared server, it appears that my option for personalization is turned off. If I understand correctly, personalization might overcome the Yahoo problem but might cause a problem with my host if my list was a large one. That may be an easier fight. Not really. I generate email to yahoo separately for each recipient and I am still having problems. Fortunately, I am using exim so -Rff helps a lot. In short, while it may help, don't count too much on this. -- Zbigniew Szalbot -- Mailman-Users mailing list Mailman-Users@python.org http://mail.python.org/mailman/listinfo/mailman-users Mailman FAQ: http://www.python.org/cgi-bin/faqw-mm.py Searchable Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/mailman-users%40python.org/ Unsubscribe: http://mail.python.org/mailman/options/mailman-users/archive%40jab.org Security Policy: http://www.python.org/cgi-bin/faqw-mm.py?req=showamp;file=faq01.027.htp

Otherwise, confirmation is required. Thank you Mark. Any chance of having it (unsubscribe without confirmation) as an option one day? [Mailman-Users] DB mailman import script?
Hello, Is there a script to insert users from a mysql database into mailman? Re: [Mailman-Users] Promotion
Hello, 2008/1/24, Khalil Abbas [EMAIL PROTECTED]: Hello mailman guys.. ok, I have a dedicated server .. and I use mailman to send a daily newsletter.. I recenly got a list of 1,000,000 email addresses that I want to use to promote my website and mailing list .. can I create another mailman installation and add these addresses to it and use it to send an invitation to visit my website and join my mailing list without the risk of getting blocked by hotmail or yahoo or others because these emails I bought will have many faulty ones and will generate excessive bounces.. is mailman programmed in a way to avoid getting blocked by hotmail and others?? or do u think it's better to buy another server and use it for promotion? I may sound harsh but you cannot just get a list of 1,000,000 just like that. I do not think Mailman creators wanted their product to be used as a tool for spammers. Unless, these people have volunteered to be sent offers. I am not suggesting any solution because I am very much against such practices. [Mailman-Users] options to protect a mailing list
Hello, I have a newsletter type mailing list. Messages from a specific address are automatically distributed to the list members. Messages from other addresses are discarded. Since the messages are sent at night, what are my options to automatically send them without risking that someone else will forge the FROM address and send spam or whatever to the list? How do you handle that? Human moderation is not possible because the messages should be sent around 3 a.m. at which time there's no one around to moderate. Thank you! Re: [Mailman-Users] where do I edit English messages?
Hi, One more question... Mark Sapiro pisze: zbigniew szalbot wrote: In order to handle some phrases better in Polish, I edited /usr/local/mailman/messages/pl/LC_MESSAGES/mailman.po followed by msgfmt -o mailman.mo mailman.po Then I wanted to do the same for the English language as I find some phrases overly complicated for the current web users. However, I do not see the English language anywhere in /usr/local/mailman/messages/ Where do I edit it? The English language messages are in the Mailman code. The code contains things like _('English text'). This causes Mailman's i18n._() function to look up 'English text' in the messages file for the current language and present the resultant translation unless the current language is 'en' in which case, no translation is required. I would like to edit this string: - Your confirmation is required in order to complete the subscription snip - If you find the msgid containing that string in /usr/local/mailman/messages/pl/LC_MESSAGES/mailman.po, you will see it is preceded by a comment like: #: Mailman/Cgi/confirm.py:246 which tells you that the source of that string is the Mailman/Cgi/confirm.py module around line 246. If you want to change that string, you have to edit it in the confirm.py module. Then you also have to edit the corresponding msgid string in the mailman.po file for each language you allow and rebuild the corresponding mailman.mo files. Otherwise, the lookup of the edited string will fail and it won't be translated. If I edit mailman.po for a given language and do not delete any line but leave some of them empty (like this: \n). Can I do the same in the confirm.py by leaving empty lines where I do not need any text? For example the whole message: - Your confirmation is required in order to complete the subscription request to the mailing list test4test list. Your subscription settings are shown below; make any necessary changes and hit Subscribe to complete the confirmation process. Once you've confirmed your subscription request, you will be shown your account options page which you can use to further customize your membership options. Or hit Cancel my subscription request if you no longer want to subscribe to this list. - I would like to shorten it to: - Click Subscribe to complete the confirmation process or hit Cancel my subscription request if you no longer want to subscribe to this list. - Can I do it in confirm.py in such way that empty lines will not be removed? If I do that, does it mean I do not have to rebuild mailman.po for corresponding languages (as the number of lines will be the same)? Thanks! Hi there again, Mark Sapiro pisze: Thank you very much Mark! I appreciate your helpful comments. Any chance future Mailman versions can make it easier to change things like that? There is currently no plan. There are a few ways it can be accomplished. The most obvious is to make translations for languages like en-US, en-GB, en-CA, etc. Then you could select a particular English dialect and make changes in the translation just as you do for Polish. This is interesting. But how do I do that? I do not see an option for en-GB. If I had files to copy from, that would make it easy but all other languages are non-English. Thanks! Re: [Mailman-Users] hacking mailman.po
Hello, 2007/9/28, Mark Sapiro [EMAIL PROTECTED]: What are my options when I need to edit some text within /usr/local/mailman/messages/uk/LC_MESSAGES/mailman.pl? I assume you mean /usr/local/mailman/messages/uk/LC_MESSAGES/mailman.po. Yes, my typo, sorry! I just want to delete 3 lines: pYou can now\n a href=\%(optionsurl)s\proceed to your membership login\n page/a. OK - I do not really want people to be looking at their membership page. I have monthly distribution lists (not discussion ones) and I just want to make sure people have links to my custom opt-in, opt-out pages. That's all. However, when people confirm subscription via web, they see then the above text. If I cannot delete it, can I just change it into anything else (like a thank you note or whatever)? Of course I need to do the same with the Polish translation. English and Polish are the only languages that are of interest to me at the moment. Thank you! [Mailman-Users] unsupported operand type(s)
Hello, I have been using mailman without any problem for the last year. However, today when I tried to post to a subscriber only list I first had a problem that Mailman contacted MTA on a IPv6 address. This resulted in exim rejecting relay attempts from Mailman. I corrected this and then sent again. However out of 650 people on the list only two subscribers got sent the message (as seen from MTA logs). I thought that maybe bounce score was bumped up for the list members and I unsubscribed all of them and then subscribed again. My last action was to re-send the same message to the list. And again only two people recevied it. There is no no-mail option turned on for the members. They should all be getting it as they have always had. When I look into mailman error log, I can see some errors. I am not sure if they have anything in common with my situation. I'd appreciate any help you can give me. Thanks! Re: [Mailman-Users] AOL's Client TOS Notification
Hello, As Larry Stone mentioned, just put something in the headers and footers of every message, which tells AOL users that they will have their entire domain permanently banned from the list, if you get too many spam complaints. Then carry through on that threat when it happens. Simple. Simple - yes. Effective? Depends on what you are after. By doing it this way you are not really different from AOL, are you? You punish many users just because some other are thoughtless and lazy. When I offer something, I want people to use it, not ban it. Re: [Mailman-Users] Personalization [was: mailman post mail to listerror]
Dear Mark, Thanks for correcting me! There's a setting to limit the number of emails mailman passes to a mailserver in one go. I don't remember it off hand, though. I think you are thinking of SMTP_MAX_RCPTS which controls the maximum number of recipients (RCPT commands) for one SMTP transaction from Mailman. This has no effect for a personalized list since if the list is personalized, the post is sent to each member in a separate transaction since the message is personalized - i.e., each SMTP transaction has exactly one recipient. But isn't there a setting you can use to limit how many emails are passed to MTA before mailman pauses a bit? I know I am not really using technical jargon here but I thought there was a way to control how fast emails are passed to an MTA. Thanks! [Mailman-Users] an alternative smtp server?

Re: [Mailman-Users] default language and English
Hi there, Mark Sapiro wrote: Password reminders are sent in the user's preferred language. If the reminder is for more than one list, and the user's preferred languages are not all the same, we use the language that is preferred in the largest number of the user's lists and pick randomly from ties. Thank you! Yes, when I switched the language for subscribers to Polish, I got a notice in Polish. I am still trying to see if I can take it a step further. I edited $prefix/mailman/messages/pl/LC_MESSAGES/mailman.po and commented out line 10230 (msgid Password // URL and its Polish translation) and altered line 10234 (msgid %(host)s mailing list memberships reminder). I saved the file and ran sudo /usr/local/bin/python -S /usr/local/mailman/cron/mailpasswds however, this appears to have had no effect on mailing. What I am trying to do is to make the list more appropriate for the newsletter type of subscribers. They don't care about passwords, options, all they want is to get a (monthly) newsletter. Initially I set the personalization on but because each newsletter is about 100KB in size, this drains server resources when MTA quickly gets many such messages to be sent. So I figured I'd give up on personalization but offered reminders for which I simplified the language templates to be understandable to non-technical people. Mark - I know have no right to ask for any future features but would you consider offering future mailman versions more suited for newsletter type of things? Maybe a general switch during list creation to distinguish between discussion lists (with its own set of settings) and a newsletter type of lists where most of the settings are redundant (digets, passwords, option pages). I really appreciate what you are doing and thank you very much for helping us all. For the time being I kept the personalization on but turned the limit of max concurrent connections to MTA down to 1. Will see if that helps me keep the server sane (the machine is not too powerful and does not have too much RAM) and still communicate using mailman. You have as much right as anyone to request features. I meant at least in the sense that I am using the software, not paying anything, getting your precious support taking your time, but ... thanks! We have had discussions which I don't have time to look up right now of adding a theme concept to list creation. I.e. a 'discussion' theme, an 'announcement' theme, etc. Then you could specify a theme for a list and it would be set up appropriately. Anyway, see the wiki at http://wiki.list.org/display/DEV/Mailman+2.2 regarding plans and feature requests. I am sure things are going in the right direction. I just think that building some kind of e-marketing features into mailman might help it considerably in gaining new grounds. I work in a non-profit sector and I am happy I can use open source tools. [Mailman-Users] default language and English
Hello, I have 3 questions about mailman (2.1.9). 1. I chose Polish as the default language for one list. And then I ticked off English. Only later did I notice that English has not been deactivated. Is it so that English is mandatory then? 2. Because Polish is the default language of a list, I edited the Polish template cronpass.txt and waited if the edited information will be sent to list members. However, to my surprise they got it in English. Does this have anything to do with no. 1 above? How can I make sure that both the subject line + mail content of password reminder will be output in Polish? 3. The information from point 2 was sent by me issuing /usr/local/bin/python -S /usr/local/mailman/cron/mailpasswds command. However, cron was supposed to have done it at 5 in the morning today. That is Mailman's cron. Do I have to set it up somehow because it seems it is not working? [Mailman-Users] performance differences between limited and full personalization
Dear friends, I have a question about possible performance differences between limited and full personalization in mailman 2.1.9. That is, I set up full personalization for two lists that I have (they are more like for sending newsletters than for discussion). Anyway, I wonder whether I would have any gain in terms of performance if I switched from full to limited personalization. I read the description but it does not say anything about this issue. There's only comparison between personalization as such and no personalization at all. In other words, do I gain anything from changing from full to limited personalization? I like when people recieving our newsletters do not have to guess the email they were subscribed with but if it should help, I would switch from full to limited and place their emails in the email footer. [Mailman-Users] result of email command
I want users to subcribe to my mls by email only (as Mailman is not avilable to the world on the machine where it is installed). All works fine but when I subscribe and confirm, the email I get is very strange. It says (in Polish) Results of email command. The original message is attached and first line says: - Result: Confirmed and then the unprocessed rest of the message. My question is whether I can change some option somewhere so that there are no attachments. Just a plain message saying: Subscribed / Removed from the mailing list. Can it be set somewhere? [Mailman-Users] list name in email
Hello, Is it possible to insert an equivalent of %(MM-List-Name)s into verity.txt template? For example, I have list which real name is ppl. It is an abbreviation and does not mean anything. But when people get the confirmation message, they should see a full name. I tried %(MM-List-Name)s, then %(listname)s, then %(description)s but they don't resolve to full list name. Thank you for advice! Re: [Mailman-Users] result of email command
Hello, change some option somewhere so that there are no attachments. Just a plain message saying: Subscribed / Removed from the mailing list. Can it be set somewhere? No. There is no such option. You would have to modify the code in Mailman/Queue/CommandRunner.py. Thank you Mark - is there a reason why command results returned from web forms differ from email ones? Re: [Mailman-Users] list name in email
Hello, The substititions in templates are defined in a Python dictionary that is passed to the call to produce the substituted template. In general, the parameters which can be substituted are specific to a given template and are only those which appear in the base template. In this case, you can't add other substitutions to verify.txt unless you modify the calls to Utils.maketext() in Mailman/MailList.py to add the additional substitution parameters to the dictionary that is passed. I tried your advice and added such a line: 'MM-List-Name' : mm_list_name, However, mailman stopped sending confirmation messages to me so I guess I must have made a mistake (I added %(mm_list_name)s to verify.txt. Re: [Mailman-Users] list name in email
Hi there again, Yes, you made a mistake. You'll probably find tracebacks from the exception in Mailman's error log. The problem is the value you have assigned to the key 'MM-List-Name' is not a defined variable. You need 'MM-List-Name' : mlist.real_name, rather than what you have. I applied the correction according to your suggestions, restarted mailman but no confirmation email is being sent. I find this in error log: File /usr/local/mailman/Mailman/MailList.py, line 887, in AddMember {'email' : email, NameError: global name 'mlist' is not defined No worries - I will return to the basics :) -- Zbigniew Szalbot -- Mailman-Users mailing list Mailman-Users@python.org http://mail.python.org/mailman/listinfo/mailman-users Mailman FAQ: http://www.python.org/cgi-bin/faqw-mm.py Searchable Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/mailman-users%40python.org/ Unsubscribe: http://mail.python.org/mailman/options/mailman-users/archive%40jab.org Security Policy: http://www.python.org/cgi-bin/faqw-mm.py?req=showamp;file=faq01.027.htp
Re: [Mailman-Users] list name in email
Hello again, And I made a mistake too. It should be 'MM-List-Name' : self.real_name, Thanks a lot. But this does not give me the full name of the list as on the mailman homepage for the list (where I took the MM-List-Name variable from) but again expands into ppl which is the real name of the list. I do not really want to bother you if this simply cannot be done. I know you are very busy. Hello, Thanks a lot. But this does not give me the full name of the list as on the mailman homepage for the list (where I took the MM-List-Name variable from) but again expands into ppl which is the real name of the list. Then I'm guessing what you want is the list description (self.description) rather than the list name (self.real_name). Mark - thank you, thank you very much indeed! Can I have one more question? If I ever want to upgrade mailman (currently I have the latest stable version so no problem), can /usr/local/mailman/Mailman/MailList.py be overwritten during upgrade or is it one of those files that don't get updated? [Mailman-Users] personalization and limiting number of emails to MTA
Hello, Is it possible within Mailman 2.1.9 to limit the number of emails sent to an MTA responsible for delivery so that not all of them are passed on one connection? I have a mls with about 600 addresses and the list is set to full personalization (monthly anounce list). When I ran it for the first time yesterday I saw mailman delivering about half of the emails on one connection and probably second half after a slight pause. This pause may have been caused by my (old) machine not able to cope with so many emails at one time. I just do not know. What I am looking for is limiting the number of emails sent by mailman to MTA to some custom defined value. Is this possible and if so then how?
