[MlMt] No more builds after 4587?

2014-11-26 Thread Bram Heerink

Hi,

I'm used to beta updates of MailMate approx. once a week. Now I have
4587 for a few weeks. Is it correct there are no builds after this
version?

Yes, it is likely to be the last 32 bit revision of MailMate. (It's also
going to be the last revision working on 10.6.)

You can switch to the 64 bit builds if you like, but it'll also happen
automatically when I'm convinced that it is at least as stable as the 32
bit builds.

The 64 bit builds also come in regular/beta/test variants which means
auto-updating works like you are used to. It's only the first time you
need to download it manually. The latest beta was released yesterday, it
has been downloaded by ~40 users, and so far I have received a single
crash report (which I'm not sure is a MailMate problem), but previous
betas have been more unstable.

Note that the 64 bit version does not include a lot of new features. The
main focus is optimizations (both speed and memory usage).

I will add that I tried this 64-bit build on both my 2011 MBP and 2012 MBA
(both running Yosemite); it loaded up the initial screen and... then
beachballed... Flipped back to the 32-bit build, and all is happy again...

Best Wishes - Peter

And this was with the most recent revision (r5021)?

Could you try again and then run the following to generate a sample of
the process when it's hanging (send it off list)?

sample MailMate 5 -file ~/Desktop/sample_mailmate.txt

Thanks in advance.

I had that with a previous release a couple of versions back. Just a
couple of days ago. Then I downloaded a more recent one manually, and
Bob was my uncle.

Interesting - MailMate 4587 is the latest version available—you have 4587. is
what I see when I try updating - even when holding down option for test
builds

The 5000 series consists of 64bit builds. Benny doesn't consider it
quite stable enough at this point, so cross-updates from the 32bit
series to the 64bit series are currently disabled. You can manually
download the 64bit series, and then you will get further updates from
there.

Benny has said that he will auto-update existing 32bit installations to
64bit once he considers the 5000 series ready for prime time.

For a while, there were updates in both the 4000 series and the 5000
series, but it seems Benny is focusing on 64bit right now and that
leaves little time for 32bit. Benny has also stated that the 64bit
version doesn't offer (many?) new features, he is focusing on stability
and performance right now.

My very personal two cents: I'm quite happy with the 64bit series.
