I've added you to the invite list.

I'm currently on vacations, and I sometimes spend >1d away from keyboard, so
I might not react quickly to IRC requests.

I've made Laurent an op on the channel, in order to increase the bus factor.

Are there any other maintainers who are ops on IRC and can help? William?

It works, schily and schily_ cannot enter it anymore.

I joined the channel and saw bots entering it, and leaving spammy messages.
I also noticed that the +r flag was gone from the channel! I don't know why or
how it happened. I've been disconnected from IRC in the meantime.

I've used instructions from https://botbot.me/how-to-setup-irc-channel/ to make
the channel invite-only. This time I read the instructions carefully (duh!) and
the setup worked. I've added all nicks currently on the channel to the list, and
nobody else. I didn't add Dago, I didn't remember his Freenode nickname.

Dago, see the above instructions to add yourself to the invite list.

Basically:
/mode #channelname +I $a:

Let's see if the new setup works.

Good evening,

It doesn't seem to help, sadly :/ That crap is getting worse.
There must be some magic missing...

I changed the channel to +r, hopefully it'll make things better.

Hello Maciej,

Thanks for intervening! I'm not very good at IRC, but I understand there
is a setting that works fairly well, without going to invite-only.
If I'm correct, it's something that only allows registered users to send
messages. I believe that's what #rhel does, for example. I'm not in
favour of invite-only either.

After this, I can't join the channel, because I'm not invited. I can't
invite myself, because I'm not on the channel. So I set the channel back to
open, and I join the channel. I try to invite myself, and I get a message
saying that I can't invite myself because I'm already on the channel.
Great, I change the channel back to invite-only, and I try to join. I
can't. I'm not invited.

I changed the channel back to open. Does anybody here know how to manage an
invite-only channel?

In the meantime, I don't know if there's actually anything happening on
#opencsw. Did anybody notice the spam bots?

Re: IRC under attack

2018-08-01 Thread Matchek
I've set the channel to invite-only.

15:45 SET #opencsw MLOCK +i
15:45 -ChanServ(ChanServ@services.)- The MLOCK for #opencsw has been set to
+i.

It means that new users can no longer talk to us via IRC. Should we
announce it somewhere, and tell people to send email to users@ instead?
