The slowness you are seeing is attributed to the DWF file having to be accessed multiple times by multiple MapGuide layers and has been a performance issue for quite some time, including the older MG6.5 DWF data provider. It appears that caching for DWF is not efficiently done. The single best thing you can do to increase performance is to split up your DWF's by layer. This is easy to do if you use Autodesk Studio to import (load procedure) your DWG file as MapGuide drawing source data and choose to have it create one drawing source per layer. Andy Morsell, P.E. Re: [mapguide-users] Service cannot be started
Any ideas about his one? This can prove to be critical for future releases. This may be one of the points of failure for MGOS. Kneo wrote: Hi, We have been facing a strange problem on Windows 2003 lately. All of a sudden, the MapGuide service stopped and when we tried to restart it, it says, 'Service starts and then stopped'. We browsed through nabble posts, and rechecked all the paths in serverconfig.ini. As the next step, we repaired the MGOS 1.0.2 installation and the service started working again. But as our repository is on another drive, we stopped the service, changed the paths in serverconfig.ini and tried starting the service again, but this time it doesn't start and throws the same error. The error message constantly refers to MgRepositoryLibrary, so maybe the problem is with the library. We restored the old backups and now things are back to normal, but the service keeps shutting down intermittently. Can library corruption be the issue ? Our library size is more than 600 Mb. Also, the logs dont say much, it just says Unclassified exception occurred. Hi, I'm using MapGuide Enterprise 2007 (yes, it's not MGOS) and MapGuide Studio. I would want to be able to author a map without installing a desktop application. I heard about Web Studio which is packaged with MapGuide Open Source.I can access to MGE through Web Studio, I can create maps but the preview pane doesn't work. Because a use the .NET viewer, I find an answer on this list here (http://www.nabble.com/Web-Studio-and-the-wonderful-world-of-Microsoft-.NET-tf2303144s16610.html#a6401691) and I made the proper correction but the preview still doesn't work. I think that Web Studio create a temporary weblayout and it seems that this weblayout isn't found...My question is maybe MapGuide Enterprise isn't fully compatible with this Open Source product ? Does anyone succeed to preview an enterprise map with Web Studio ? [mapguide-users] ODBC performance
I just upgraded to 1.2 RC1 today and I loaded my site. It looks like there are a lot of great new features - the new symbolization will be particularly helpful to us. I have been having performance issues on my site, which seem to be related to an ODBC feature source which I have joined to an SDF feature source. The ODBC database is running on the same server as MapGuide. It takes several seconds (between 5 and 10) for the viewer to display the user's selection, and about the same amount of time for my page to load initially. Depending on who you ask, opinions of my site vary from 'annoying' to 'useless'. The poor performance is particularly surprising because the layer only has about 100 polygons on it, and the other layers are not particularly complex either. I have posted about this issue previously was advised that there would be improvements in the new version which might help. I tested my application in 1.2 RC1 and I was disappointed to find that the upgrade did not have an effect on the performance of my application. Is there anything that can I can do to improve performance here (and not lose the ability to theme or label extended properties)? Is there still work being done to address ODBC performance issues, or is my situation unique? Thanks for any information you can provide. [mapguide-users] Reprojecting Data in PHP - PROJ4 failed to transform the data.
Hello friends - Mapguide Enterprise / Postgres/PostGIS backend / PHP Web environment. I'm relatively new to the GIS world and kind of got thrown into mix without much (any) background, so hopefully this doesn't come off as too ignorant. For whatever reason, OGR filtering on a layer against PostGIS won't go; so I am attempting to get lat / long from my points table directly, create a point object for each, create a new layer, and push the layer into the map, refresh the pane and go. This all works; however, the points don't show up anywhere close to where they 'should' be. I have confidence the lat / longs are accurate and this is a projection / coordinate system issue; if I push these points into ArcMap, or perform a transform on them in FME and then into a layer, they DO show up where they are expected to be. For our business process however, I need to only show a subset of of these points; dynamically determined at runtime. I grabbed some sample code from this site and the Map Guide development guide that describes a mechanism by which I can reproject the data from llwgs84 to north florida plains via php calls. [This is the same operation being performed in FME to get the points to show up 'right']. Tragically, upon calling the transform method, I get a pretty vague error message: The coordinate system transform failed. PROJ4 failed to transform the data. Is there any way I can get more verbose information as to what is going wrong? I'm attaching my souce code below. Any insight is appreciated! - pD ** // CODE ABOVE CREATES A LAYER, DEFINES THE POINTS, AND ADDS THEM THE TO THE LAYER . // BEFORE ADDING THE LAYER TO THE MAP, WE WILL ATTEMPT TO 'REPROJECT IT' $coordSysFactory = new MgCoordinateSystemFactory(); // DEFINE A SOURCE NAD $llwgs84 ='PROJCS[LL-WGS84, GEOGCS[WGS84 Lat/Longs, Degrees, -180 == +180,DATUM[WGS_1984,SPHEROID[World Geodetic System of 1984,6378137,298.257223563],AUTHORITY[EPSG,6326]],PRIMEM[Greenwich,0],UNIT[degree,0.0174532925199433]]]'; // define a destination NAD! $northFlorida ='PROJCS[NAD83 Florida State Planes, Northern Zone, Meter, GEOGCS[North_American_Datum_1983, DATUM[North_American_Datum_1983, SPHEROID[Geodetic Reference System of 1980,6378137,298.2572221009113], AUTHORITY[EPSG,6269]], PRIMEM[Greenwich,0], UNIT[degree,0.0174532925199433]], PROJECTION[Lambert_Conformal_Conic_2SP], PARAMETER[standard_parallel_1,30.75], PARAMETER[standard_parallel_2,29.58333], PARAMETER[latitude_of_origin,29], PARAMETER[central_meridian,-84.5], PARAMETER[false_easting,60], PARAMETER[false_northing,0], UNIT[METER,1]]'; // CREATE SOME OBJECTS. [mapguide-users] postgis fdo-ogr and spatial indexes
Hello, I'm testing the ogr provider with postgis and it works fine, I connect vía Map 2008 and MGOS 1.2. So, the question is about the spatial indexes (gist). How works the ogr provider with gist indexes? I'm attempting to get better performance with this configuration. [mapguide-users] FDO PostGIS provider. Was: OGR Provider
The current build is somewhat transitory, meaning I'm not sure what features are in it. I'm expecting Mateusz to post a new build sometime in the next day that is a bit more feature-complete. A couple things to be aware of: - It requires the MSVC++ SP1 Redistributable to be installed on your computer (for Map) or the server (for MapGuide): http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=200B2FD9-AE1A- 4A14-984D-389C36F85647displaylang=en - The PostgreSQL bin directory either needs to be in the path before any other version of libpq.dll and any of its dependancies (the ssl stuff was a problem for me) or the files from bin need to be copied into the FDO directory (bit of a hack to say the least). For MapGuide, this needs to be the System path, not the user path, because the server runs as local service. You could also download and compile the most recent version yourself from SVN :) http://svn.osgeo.org/fdo/trunk/Providers/PostGIS/ I haven't tried this yet myself. Jason -Original Message- From: Jose Manuel C G Subject: [mapguide-users] RE: RE: OGR Provider I've tried the alpha version ( http://mateusz.loskot.net/tmp/fdopostgis/?M=D here ) of PostGIS provider on Map 2008, without any success. The problem is the fdo of Map 2008, I think, because in the database connection, show the PostGIS provider, but in the right panel, a warning show an error with the FDO. ___ mapguide-users mailing list mapguide-users@lists.osgeo.org http://lists.osgeo.org/mailman/listinfo/mapguide-users
Re: [mapguide-users] OGR / GEOS selection problem
It is actually forwarded to PostGIS: OGREnvelope sEnvelope; m_poFilterGeom-getEnvelope( sEnvelope ); osWHERE.Printf(WHERE %s SetSRID('BOX3D(%.12f %.12f, %.12f %.12f)'::box3d,%d) , pszGeomColumn, sEnvelope.MinX, sEnvelope.MinY, sEnvelope.MaxX, sEnvelope.MaxY, nSRSId ); Not too good with PostGIS syntax, but since the m_poFilterGeom is the filter used (a small square in this case) it reads: Select from geometry_column where features are within the bbox of the filer Which should be quite ok, unless they have a similar idea of optimizing this to a BBOX test, as OGR does. Anyway, I can confirm that Traians fix works with MapInfo TAB files, but NOT with PostGIS :( Regards, Kenneth, GEOGRAF A/S Traian Stanev skrev: To put test data into PostGres I use the tool that comes with it that can import SHP files into the database. How works the ogr provider with gist indexes? I'm attempting to get better performance with this configuration. alucas, GDAL/OGR 1.4 uses the following construct when building a query against a postgis table to apply a spatial filter. m_poFilterGeom-getEnvelope( sEnvelope ); osWHERE.Printf(WHERE %s SetSRID('BOX3D(%.12f %.12f, %.12f %.12f)'::box3d,%d) , pszGeomColumn, sEnvelope.MinX, sEnvelope.MinY, sEnvelope.MaxX, sEnvelope.MaxY, nSRSId ); This is intended to use the spatial index and normally works as far as I know. If you run MgServer from the commandline, and enable CPL_DEBUG (set this enviroment variable to ON) you should see debug output from the OGR provider indicating the specific query it ends up using. It should be prefixed with something like: OGRPGTableLayer::BuildWhere returns: Best regards, -- ---+-- ---+ I set the clouds in motion - turn up | Frank Warmerdam, [EMAIL PROTECTED] light and sound - activate the windows | http://pobox.com/~warmerdam and watch the world go round - Rush| President OSGeo, http://osgeo.org http://osgeo.org/ ___ mapguide-users mailing list mapguide-users@lists.osgeo.org http://lists.osgeo.org/mailman/listinfo/mapguide-users -- View this message in context: http://www.nabble.com/postgis-fdo-ogr-and-spatial-indexes-tf3917522s16610.html#a11109589 Sent from the MapGuide Users mailing list archive at Nabble.com. ___ mapguide-users mailing list mapguide-users@lists.osgeo.org http://lists.osgeo.org/mailman/listinfo/mapguide-users ___ mapguide-users mailing list mapguide-users@lists.osgeo.org http://lists.osgeo.org/mailman/listinfo/mapguide-users ___ mapguide-users mailing list mapguide-users@lists.osgeo.org http://lists.osgeo.org/mailman/listinfo/mapguide-users
RE: [mapguide-users] OGR / GEOS selection problem
Typically with PostGIS, a bounds query is prepended to the actual geometry query; it weeds out the disjoint areas of the rtree before doing the full geometry compare. If the provider is only doing the envelope part, then yes, there's a slight problem :) Jason From: Traian Stanev Subject: RE: [mapguide-users] OGR / GEOS selection problem Wait, from this it looks like it takes the BBOX (envelope) of the filter and sends that to PostGIS...? [mapguide-users] 1.2 RC1 Bugs and Newbie Impressions
I'm a relatively new user to MapGuide, and I thought I'd share my impressions upgrading to v1.2 RC1. I realize some of my thinking might be flawed, but perhaps it might shed some insight into what a new user will experience using the software. Core Bugs / Issues: * Installing 1.2 RC1 from 1.1. The 1.2 installer couldn't perform an upgrade - instead, it asked me to uninstall the previous version. I did so, then installed 1.2. All of my 1.1 settings were lost, including my custom repository paths pointing to our data volume. * Installing the product always defaults to the admin password. This is very bad from a security standpoint (for example, Microsoft had been blasted for this in SQL Server about 8+ years ago). The installer should prompt the user for an administrator password during installation (and be sure not to log it in the install log). This is an absolute must, IMHO. Initial installations of *any* product should not be insecure. * There needs to be a way to reconfigure the data directories during installation. The majority of production server installations separate the OS volume from the data volume. * I'm not sure if this has been resolved, but put me down for a vote in the SHP file performance is absolutely critical camp. I know that there were some recent problems as the # of files increased. Web Studio Bugs: * All of the following bugs were seen in Firefox 2.0.0.4 * Installing the IIS web service extensions did not correctly add index.html to the default document list. As a result, going to http://localhost/mapguide/mapstudio gave a 404. * Login screen defaults to the admin password. This promotes insecure implementations. * Clicking reference unmanaged data on the initial page brings up a 404. * Clicking Tools-Map Agent brings up a cannot connect to server. It defaults to 127.0.0.1:8001 rather than the server I specified in the connect window. Is this correct? * After getting the cannot connect to server error, I clicked X twice to close the two open documents. Site explorer then showed an animation as though it was working - however, it clearly was not doing anything. * I get a popup message saying ERROR quite a bit, even though I'm not doing anything at the time. ___ mapguide-users mailing list mapguide-users@lists.osgeo.org http://lists.osgeo.org/mailman/listinfo/mapguide-users
[mapguide-users] MrSID files through GDAL FDO provider
Good morning, I am working with MGOS 1.2 RC1 and the latest GDAL FDO providers on XP Pro. I have a directory with twenty five 40MB MrSID files in it. If I create a single data source against that directory, I have a limited possibility that the images will actually process although there does not seem to be any errors when I run MGServer from the command line. It appears that the datasource is processed whether or not the layer is turned on. As an aside, I did notice that if I have the ECW dll in the directory, the messages indicate that it is trying to read the .sid format files as ECW which adds to the time. In order to test things out, I created a data source for each file. I noticed that for a couple of files, the processor usage spikes to 100% but the images are displayed quickly. As I add more files, the processor spikes become longer and the delays far more apparent. When I get all 25 added my processor spikes to 100% usage for several minutes although the images will eventually display. Watching the mgserver from the command line shows that the images process and some go very quickly but others seem to be very slow (which may just be the result of the processor being pegged). I tried using fwtools to mosaic these images together but can only get about 4 together before I hit the 4GB tiff limit. I am trying to create a new single mosaiced .sid file to see if that will make a difference but was wondering if there were any other ideas of what I could do to improve the performance of the display of the images? Thanks, J ___ mapguide-users mailing list mapguide-users@lists.osgeo.org http://lists.osgeo.org/mailman/listinfo/mapguide-users
