the extend that I can connect to the database and see the tables and

Any ideas?

Anther question on this, will this Postgis connector be included into later

My understanding is that the PostGIS provider looks at the
geometry_columns metadata table to determine which tables are spatially
enabled.

This provider is still in alpha/beta mode, and you are more likely to
get a knowledgeable reply on the fdo-users mailing list.

RE: [mapguide-users] Adding a Coordinate System to MGE/MGOS

2007-12-14 Thread Maksim Sestic

Hi Bruce,

I was hoping that MG had some mistery :-) mechanism of adding new CRSs to
it's common definitions. So, I guess the only procedure to add new CRS to MG
goes like:

1) On a client machine, run Map 3D and add new CRS (Map - Tools - Define
Global Coordinate System...)
2) Open folder ...\Program Files\Common Files\Autodesk Shared\GIS\CoordSys
to see definition files
3) On MG server machine, open folder ...\Program
Files\Autodesk\MapGuideEnterprise2008\Server
4) Run csupdate.exe
5) Source folder = the one described in step 2)
6) Destination folder = ...\Program Files\Common Files\Autodesk
Shared\GIS\CoordSys on MG server

I just need to check out if MG Studio shares common CRS definitions with Map
(I guess it does), and if it sees a newly added one when creating a new
MapDefinition. That's how it should work for the MGE. I don't know if Mentor
and Proj4 share common CRS/Datum/etc. definition files (for this to work on
MGOS).

BTW, I have no idea why Map and some other GIS applications use obscure
formats for persisting coordinate system related data. Isn't XML on OGC
standards enough? Is there something to hide? :-) I guess not (
http://www.epsg.org/CurrentDB.html EPSG Geodetic Parameter Dataset ).

Regards,
Maksim Sestic

Hi Keith,

The repository is (are) stored in a DBXML database. Like all databases,
backing them up when they are in use can leave you with an inconsistent
database state, or possibly even prevent backup entirely because of
locked files.

I _believe_ that if you shut down the MapGuide service before taking
your filesystem-level backup you would be OK, but my experience with
other databases has been that it's typically better to use the provided
database backup/restore functions.

Once Mentor is open sourced you will be able to use the MapGuide API directly

The API is already in open source 2.0 right now it is just not hooked up to

If anyone has any insight into how this might be done using MGOS with the
PROJ4 libraries, I would be interested in any details. I had a recent
inquiry from someone needing to build a coordinate system definition on the
fly and then use that as the basis for a coordinate transformation. This
would be a regular operation in their application.

And, once the Mentor libraries are officially open source as Autodesk has
announced they will be and slated for inclusion in MGOS 2.1, how will new
definitions be added? Obviously the constraint of having to use Autodesk
Map and the old update procedure is not going to be viable. Perhaps we will
need RFC's for API methods for adding, changing and deleting coordinate
system definitions.

Thanks.

Re: [mapguide-users] Shortest path between two points

You can do a select on the featuresource to get all data for the resource.
You can choose only to select the geometry column.
When you itterate over the records, you can extract the geometry from
the record.

This involves converting AGF data to GML (or whatever you prefer).
The basis for query to a featuresource, and extraction of geometry is
documented with an example in the developer guide (PDF version at least).

If you get stuck on the examples, please ask again.

Subject: Re: [mapguide-users] Can anyone tell me why I can't do a refresh

The frame hierachy problem aside, the function is called Refesh() not
refresh().
Also, most frames have a function called GetMapFrame(), that will ease
the problem of finding the right frame.

I have the following code in vb.net. I get a javascript error when I try
to
do the refresh. If I place an html button in the page and execute
parent.parent.mapFrame.refresh(); It refreshes the map with my group
turned
off. For some reason, when I execute the sub as shown below,
parent.parent.mapFrame is not valid but parent.mapFrame is. Same page as
the html button but obviously executed differently. The debugger shows
that
parent is viewFrame in this context and parent.mapFrame is valid.
However,
the refresh throws an error saying object or method does not exist. I
feel
like I'm missing something obvious but cannot discover what it is. Anyone
 have any help.

 Thanks in advance.

2007-12-14 Thread Gunter Becker

Hi,

could it be that your code runs in another domain than the AjaxViewer. For
example when your code runs on your develop machine and the AjaxViewer
(WebExtensions) runs on another computer on your intranet you will have a
security issue. You cannot access the methods in another frame via scripting
when it is located in another domain. I ran into this problem and got the
same error saying object or method does not exist.
