[mapguide-users] mgserver process hangs / memory usage

2008-05-20 Thread G . E . O . -Consulting / Hans Morschell
hallo,

we are using MGOS in the following environment:

- MGOS 2.0

- IIS6 on MS Server2003

- ASP application / .Net environment

- Server with dual processor / 4 GB RAM

our application has one map, one layout, about 50 layers, some MRSID, some
TIFF and shape files, user can calculate a route, therefore we have 4
dynamic layers in session repository

The mgserver process occasionally crashes and monitoring the memory usage I
can see the following behaviour:

After starting the mgserver process the use of memory continously increases,
the pagefile size grows permanetly, and both of them do never decrease.

Error messages in mgserver logfiles:

- out of memory, bad allocation

- failed to stylize layer

- no more fdo connections

- unexpected exception

- ressource busy

the error messages are not allways identical.

The mgserver process hangs completely, can not be restarted so I have to
restart the server.

Does anybody have a similar situation ?

I didn't change settings in serverconfig.ini, any hints, what to change
there ?

Why does the mgserver process not deallocate memory, may be there is
something wrong in my IIS6 configuration ?

Thanks for any help, Hans

Are you trying to pass a fusion flexible layout into the basic ajax viewer?

Web Layouts and Flexible Layouts (aka. Application Definitions) are two
totally different things with two different XML schemas.

I've installed on VMWare with Fedora 4, CentOS 5 and XP without any problems
related to the fact that it's a virtual machine. MapGuide doesn't know or
care that it's a VM.. When you say that it doesn't work, can you be more
specific?

I've been working with MGOS 2 on CentOS 5 for the last month or so, and
while not in production yet, have experienced many crashes of the server
component. However, updating to 2.0.1 last week seems to have significantly
improved the stability. It looks like it's only been released to the
internals so far, and has not been officially announced yet.

How about Linux/Apache MG developers? Do you guys experience similar

RE: [mapguide-users] Test if MapGuide server is running

2008-05-20 Thread Jim O'Leary

The unit tests are not a reliable indicator of the MapGuide server status
because the MapGuide server has not stopped. It is just hanging and thinks
it is running, so reports on any test that The repository is already opened
by another process.

So there is no simple way to test that the MapGuide server is running?

JasonBirch wrote:

Jim, I wouldn't count on a lack of entries in the log file indicating that
the server is running. This hasn't happened to me recently, but I've seen
a few cases where the server has just dumped out without any entries.

Using something like the mapagent's GetSiteVersion would have the benefit
of testing both the web tier and the server, but of course it wouldn't
tell you which was broken so a commandline API call might be better.

I think this would involve a lot of overhead. I would have to 'try' to
 create
a Session and 'catch' an exception. But i want to do this every few
 seconds.
It would be easier to use a Python script to parse the log file. However,
 it
would be more appropriate to use a built-in test, if one exists.

[mapguide-users] Calculating a Euclidean Distance in Javascript

2008-05-20 Thread nclayton

I'm trying to reproduce the function being called in php to measure the
distance between the two points of the measure tool in javascript so that I
can display the current distance while a user is picking a second point on
the map. So far the formula I have tried is not producing the same result as
the result of
$srsMap-MeasureEuclideanDistance($x1,$y1,$x2,$y2) in measure.php

the formula I am trying is:
distance = sqrt(abs(x2 - x1)^2 + abs(y2-y1)^2)

then to convert to miles:
miles = distance * 0.000621371192

Thanks in advance for any input.

Re: [mapguide-users] MapGuide Open Source 2.0.1 released

2008-05-20 Thread Zac Spitzer
Great news, I have been running this release on linux and windows and
it's so much more stable than 2.0
and it resolves some finicky styling issues as well.

I would to like really thank the Mapguide Development Team for their
work on this release, it has resolved
many of the stability problems that many people on this list have been
experiencing.

I'm not sure if the final release of 2.0.1 resolves the following, but
the last build i tested had the following problems

Apache will crash on XP (haven't tested 2003) if the basic viewer is
used with FF3 RC1. The basic viewer
doesn''t work with FF 3 RC1 either, fusion does work, so you might
want to consider disabling the basic
viewer until this problem is resolved. On linux, with the basic viewer
and FF3 RC1 it doesn't work either,
apache only throws some errors but it doesn't crash out.

Apache crash - http://trac.osgeo.org/mapguide/ticket/557
FF3 Basic Viewer issue - http://trac.osgeo.org/mapguide/ticket/378

with this release, Fusion's support for tiled maps has been improved,
the co-ordinates are now correctly
reported :) however, there is an issue with zooming where the mouse
wheel pans rather than zooms
and the zoom scale defaults to fully zoomed in and it will always
'bounce' if you try and drag it out to a
larger zoom

tiled map zoom issue - http://trac.osgeo.org/fusion/ticket/59

Zac
