[libreoffice-marketing] Open-Xchange to launch open-source, browser-based office suite

2013-03-21 Thread Marc Paré
Apparently this is being spearheaded by former OOo devs ... no mention
of who from OOo in the article.

Re: [libreoffice-marketing] Open-Xchange to launch open-source, browser-based office suite

2013-03-21 Thread Simon Phipps
I am concerned to see it described as open source when the client
software is licensed in a way that is not OSD-compliant and does not
deliver software freedom (the article says it uses CC-BY-NC-SA which is
clearly non-Free).

This looks promising. If you visit the demo site, you can click around and use
a real, pre-release version of the app now. It looks good and seems to work
well.

I wonder who the OOo devs could be? It would have been neat if they had
contributed to the LibreOffice project.

Is anyone in Marketing in a position to post a congratulations and, by
the way, this is where we are with in-browser LibO? (cc'ing Italo)

From what I can tell, OX's Text app is completely new, from the ground up.
I'd look at it as a potential new ally in the larger ODF world and see if we
two projects can help each other. Its pedigree should not impact our
relationship with OX Text in any negative way.

Sorry - I guess my wording was too abrupt.

The congratulations I would hope, would be sincere. Following up w/our
browser project's status (or positioning) just reminds everyone that we
know this space is important and that, in fact, we're in it too...
