[libreoffice-marketing] Open-Xchange to launch open-source, browser-based office suite
Apparently this is being spearheaded by former OOo devs ... no mention of who from OOo in the article. http://www.itworld.com/enterprise-software/348971/open-xchange-launch-open-source-browser-based-office-suite Cheers, Marc -- Marc Paré m...@marcpare.com http://www.parEntreprise.com parEntreprise.com Supports OpenDocument Formats (ODF) parEntreprise.com Supports http://www.LibreOffice.org -- Unsubscribe instructions: E-mail to marketing+h...@global.libreoffice.org Problems? http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/how-to-unsubscribe/ Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/global/marketing/ All messages sent to this list will be publicly archived and cannot be deleted

I am concerned to see it described as open source when the client software is licensed in a way that is not OSD-compliant and does not deliver software freedom (the article says it uses CC-BY-NC-SA which is clearly non-Free). http://www.itworld.com/enterprise-software/348971/open-xchange-launch-open-source-browser-based-office-suite This looks promising. If you visit the demo site, you can click around and use a real, pre-release version of the app now. It looks good and seems to work well. (cc'ing Italo) -Craig From what I can tell, OX's Text app is completely new, from the ground up. I'd look at it as a potential new ally in the larger ODF world and see if we two projects can help each other. Its pedigree should not impact our relationship with OX Text in any negative way. Re: [libreoffice-marketing] Re: Open-Xchange to launch open-source, browser-based office suite
Sorry - I guess my wording was too abrupt. The congratulations I would hope, would be sincere. Following up w/our browser project's status (or positioning) just reminds everyone that we know this space is important and that, in fact, we're in it too... hth, -Craig On Mar 21, 2013 12:55 PM, Charles-H.
