Hi!

I'm curious as to what feedback you got from the Bangalore group: we're
currently preparing for both a GNOME 3.0 hackfest and the 4th edition of
GNOME.Asia summit, their website has been down for quite some time and
when asking 'around' it seems they have nothing going on.

We also discovered a 'GNOME India' at http://gnome-in.sarovar.org/, so I
believe all in all it's a great opportunity to wake up all those people
and inject them with fresh blood.

Please let us know if you know more than we do.

Thanks.

The one suggestion I have is to start really small - ask them to reply
saying that they got your mail are still involved in the GUG, and if
not to help redirect you.

You can always follow up afterwards to get more information on what the
GUG does.

The longer someone has to spend replying to your email, the lower the
response rate.

And then, IMHO, it's good to go - could you perhaps let us know who you
intend to email with this, please? It'd be good to know who it's going
out to, whether they're mailing lists, contact@ addresses, or the names
of people.

Thanks!
Dave.

GCI: Update Gnome Usergroup Info, Introduction

2011-01-03 Thread Jason Lo
Hello, my name is Jason Lo, and I have taken this GCI task (
http://www.google-melange.com/gci/task/show/google/gci2010/gnome/t129061755958#c16001).
I was asked by Dave Neary to prepare an email to send out, but before I do
that, I'd like to ask to some questions.
Namely, what should the overall tone and content of this email be? And also,
should I mention that I am a GCI student, and should I even go as far as to
mention the two previous students that tried to undertake this task, maybe
in a sort of apologetic tone? Thanks.

Hi Jason,

Jason Lo wrote:

Informal and short. Hi! I know you've been bothered a couple of times
with this already, but I'm helping update which GNOME user groups are
active and what you're up to, and I'd really appreciate a quick answer
from you, since you're listed as a contact for GNOME user group name.
Can you let me know if you're still involved with the GUG? If not, can
you let me know who is now the main contact for the GUG, please?

And also, should I mention that I am a GCI student, and should I even go as

I definitely think that a somewhat apologetic tone is appropriate. Also,
describing what GCI is, and the task as defined there, at the end of
your mail, might help smooth things over too. I suspect many GNOME User
Group people don't really know what GCI is.

Cheers,
Dave.

Maybe one piece of information is how many people are signed up on the
mailing list and how active it is, i.e. how many mails/month? The sys admin

piece of our marketing and outreach efforts.

I would replace open source by free and open source to make the
email more inclusive, especially since GNOME is part of the GNU project

If you need any help getting 'faster' responses with the GUGs in Asia
