Re: GNOME in the press - 2012-12-05
I have to say I that I largely agree with datamations point that its marketing that GNOME needs most now. GNOME needs us to be communicating what we're doing, when we're doing it and why - not just to ourselves, but to the wider public as well. The irreparable harm quote in LinuxInsider comes from someone I've actually met by the way. I met Kevin O'Brien at Ohio Linux Fest and am scheduled to go meet up with him and his LUG in Ann Arbor, MI in March and do a small presentation on GNOME (though I may ask to postpone that till April when both the weather will (hopefully) be better and 3.8 will be out). From my (admittedly brief) conversations with him at OLF he seemed like a nice guy, though like many he didn't seem to know much about GNOME 3 - though he was interested enough in GNOME to invite me up there. Hi all!I suppose that people who will say that yesterday was better there will be always a galore, everywhere.I personally believe that we don't have to regret about this or about a bad article, but to use the attention a journalist has regarding GNOME to ask her/him, in proper way, to write something correct. A wrong article depends from a lack of informations, and very often journalists made a weird job. GNOME in the press
Hi, I may only do this once, but I've added it to my calendar as a weekly thing. Let's see how it goes... (in general, we're taking some knocks, so this is going to be hard sometimes - if people don't like to see this let me know, but I think it's better to at least be aware of who's writing about us, and what they're saying). Here's a summary of GNOME in the news for the last few days (courtesy of Google News Alerts). Hi Michael, Michael Hasselmann wrote: whom would I contact when I found GNOME-related stuff in newspapers or magazines? Surely we keep a list of articles somewhere, even for the non-English stuff? The wiki is the best place for stuff like this. Pages tagged in del.icio.us with gnome press also get syndicated to the GNOME News feed. The gnome del.icio.us feed is also pretty interesting and varied, but high volume. The difficulty as always with the wiki is where to put the information so that it is both useful for readers and easy to organise for editors. I also like articles in the press including technical articles.
