Very clear and well thought-out, and short enough to read through. 
From my reading I found nothing to disagree with (except for the 
religious references, but since god doesn't exist that doesn't amount 
to a material disagreement).

I do not see mass demonstrations in Japan and South Korea.

AMONG the many things that Donald Trump dislikes are big global firms. 
Faceless and rootless, they stand accused of unleashing “carnage” on 
ordinary Americans by shipping jobs and factories abroad. His answer is 
to domesticate these marauding multinationals. Lower taxes will draw 
their cash home, border charges will hobble their cross-border supply 
chains and the trade deals that help them do business will be rewritten. 
To avoid punitive treatment, “all you have to do is stay,” he told 
American bosses this week.


Mr Trump is unusual in his aggressively protectionist tone. But in many 
ways he is behind the times. Multinational companies, the agents behind 
global integration, were already in retreat well before the populist 
revolts of 2016. Their financial performance has slipped so that they 
are no longer outstripping local firms. Many seem to have exhausted 
their ability to cut costs and taxes and to out-think their local 
competitors. Mr Trump’s broadsides are aimed at companies that are 
surprisingly vulnerable and, in many cases, are already heading home. 
The impact on global commerce will be profound.


*The end of the arbitrage*

Multinational firms (those that do a large chunk of their business 
outside their home region) employ only one in 50 of the world’s workers. 
But they matter. A few thousand firms influence what billions of people 
watch, wear and eat. The likes of IBM, McDonald’s, Ford, H, Infosys, 
Lenovo and Honda have been the benchmark for managers. They co-ordinate 
the supply chains that account for over 50% of all trade. They account 
for a third of the value of the world’s stockmarkets and they own the 
lion’s share of its intellectual property—from lingerie designs to 
virtual-reality software and diabetes drugs.


They boomed in the early 1990s, as China and the former Soviet bloc 
opened and Europe integrated. Investors liked global firms’ economies of 
scale and efficiency. Rather than running themselves as national fiefs, 
firms unbundled their functions. A Chinese factory might use tools from 
Germany, have owners in the United States, pay taxes in Luxembourg and 
sell to Japan. Governments in the rich world dreamed of their national 
champions becoming world-beaters. Governments in the emerging world 
welcomed the jobs, exports and technology that global firms brought. It 
was a golden age.


Central to the rise of the global firm was its claim to be a superior 
moneymaking machine. That claim lies in tatters (see Briefing 
). 
In the past five years the profits of multinationals have dropped by 
25%. Returns on capital have slipped to their lowest in two decades. A 
strong dollar and a low oil price explain part of the decline. 
Technology superstars and consumer firms with strong brands are still 
thriving. But the pain is too widespread and prolonged to be dismissed 
as a blip. About 40% of all multinationals make a return on equity of 
less than 10%, a yardstick for underperformance. In a majority of 
industries they are growing more slowly and are less profitable than 
local firms that stayed in their backyard. The share of global profits 
accounted for by multinationals has fallen from 35% a decade ago to 30% 
now. For many industrial, manufacturing, financial, natural-resources, 
media and telecoms companies, global reach has become a burden, not an 
advantage.


That is because a 30-year window of arbitrage is closing. Firms’ tax 
bills have been massaged down as low as they can go; in China factory 
workers’ wages are rising. Local firms have become more sophisticated. 
They can steal, copy or displace global firms’ innovations without 
building costly offices and factories abroad. From America’s shale 
industry to Brazilian banking, from Chinese e-commerce to Indian 
telecoms, the companies at the cutting edge are local, not global.


The changing political landscape is making things even harder for the 
giants. Mr Trump is the latest and most strident manifestation of a 
worldwide shift to grab more of the value that multinationals capture.

Yes, what a "conspiracy"! It is directed against the British government, 
the Russian, the Chinese, the Gulf states, the Syrian, the Argentine 
etc. However, one thing is true: Americans seem to be absent. This does 
not make the revelations untrue but it might be the case the the US had 
some influence to be left out of the investigations. But of course, I am 
not in the position to find this out.

   Thinking further on the line of that idiotic proposal, one does actually arrive at this kind of 
gender apartheid where women have to sit in the back of the bus, where there are separate areas of 
seats for men and women in a cinema, where therer are separate doors and seperate water fountains 
marked for "men only" and "women only".

   Do you really think that this is the way you want to be going to?

I think it was absolutely wrong to support the Euro-Maidan movement or 
to consider supporting the current reactionary regime in Kiev. Equally 
socialists in the US and EU should oppose sanctions against Russia. 
(Trotsky was even sharply opposed to the Western imperialist sanctions 
against fascist Italy during the latters colonial war in Ethiopia in the 
mid-1930s.)


This however must not lead Marxists do deny the imperialist character of 
Russia today! I tried to demonstrate the nature of Russian imperialism 
in two essays/booklets published in the last 8 months. I think they 
proof this both empirically as well as in complete accordance with 
Lenin's theory of imperialism:

1) Those who argue that the BRICS should be supported believe that the 
economic and political development of BRICS nations will ultimately 
undermine the U.S., and as a result will undermine imperialism. This 
is completely erroneous. Did the displacement of the British 
imperialism by that of the U.S. undermine imperialism? Not at all. The 
leading imperialist nation-state can change without that change in the 
least bit undermining imperialism as a world system. In fact, 
historians can probably make a much stronger case that with each 
succession, imperialism as a system evolved to a higher stage.


By contrast, during his lifetime, Lenin *never* proposed that, for 
example, the U.S. should be supported so as to undermine the British 
imperialism. He supported fighting against ALL imperialists. Including 
Russia, which Lenin (again, during his lifetime) designated as 
imperialist; also this is why Lenin explicitly supported the right of 
self-determination for Ukraine (from Russian domination).


2) How is it that Lenin, even *after* writing the ‘Imperialism as the 
Highest Stage of Capitalism’ pamphlet, considered Russia an 
imperialist country a hundred years ago, and some Marxists are arguing 
Russia is not an imperialist country now?!!


3) Just for one example of imperialist behavior toward less powerful 
nations: Russia, starting in early 1800s, tried and subjected Iran, 
formalizing her dominant relation with Iran in successive wars and 
treaties that followed: Treaty of Gulistan (1813), Treaty of 
Turkmenchay (1828) and Treaty of Akhal (1881). These treaties included 
exclusively economic/trade provisions that forced Iran into agreeing 
to not interfere with any Russian businessman who chose to set up shop 
in any part of Iran. Meaning, through the use of military force, 
Russia was able to gain asymmetrical economic benefits it otherwise 
would not have had. *That* is imperialism’s core characteristic, not 
finance capital alone.


4) Finance capital alone cannot guarantee imperialist gains. In order 
to achieve its goals imperialism frequently has to employ 
‘extra-economic’ means (for example, unfair trade agreements gained 
through political and diplomatic means, or through military means). 
Case in point, Iraq. Iraq was brought to its knees not by financial 
instruments, but by brute force of a military attack, after which 
economic benefits were secured.


Marxists who think that purely ‘economic’ features are the key 
determinants of imperialism forget that for Marx capital accumulation 
was a POLITICAL-economic reality, not just purely economic. Such 
Marxists also ignore the importance placed on ‘extra-economic’ means 
by which ‘primitive accumulation’ was achieved during the transition 
from feudalism to capitalism (see Part Eight of Capital, Vol. 1).


5) Marxists who believe economic criteria alone, and not a 
relationship of dominance, determine the imperialist nature of a state 
formation claim that imperialism requires the imperialist country to 
have excess capital that it needs to export. Well Russia does that to 
Iran. Russia has huge investments in Iran, the most famous of which is 
the nuclear reactor they have built and the nuclear reactors they have 
been

I'm having trouble getting access to this piece.

However, the Workingmen's Party of California grew from the interests of
small Euro-American proprietors resisting the rise of railroads and the
forces of industrial capitalism. Like all such operations its appealed to
workingmen, but no more so than the major capitalist parties.  And, it
was prone, like all, to embrace misleading labels.

It was hardly anticapitalist in the sense of opposing the capitalist
order in general.

And it was certainly never Marxist in any way, shape or form.

1. The Obama administration has called for the formation of an
international coalition of states under its leadership in order to
“destroy” and “annihilate” the extreme Salafi-TakfiriIslamic
State (IS, often called Daash in Arabic). Since early August, the US has
carried out more than 162 air strikes inside Iraq. Unsurprisingly,
General Martin Dempsey, chairman of the US military's Joint Chiefs of
Staff, is already speculating about sending US ground troops into combat
in the region. US officials have speculated that this war might last for
at least three years.

1. After the failure of talks between representatives of Argentina’s
Kirchner government and the US hedge funds NML Capital and Aurelius,
South America’s second largest country is in danger of defaulting.
These two “vulture funds,” as they are rightly dubbed in Latin
America, have rejected the restructuring of debts which was accepted by
93% of the bondholders, and are demanding full payment of US$ 1.3
billion on bonds they hold. These vultures’ demands are the equivalent
of 17-times (!) the sum which these hedge funds invested to buy the
Argentine bonds in 2002. If the Argentine government were to agree to
these demands, this precedent could trigger additional claims from other
creditors – those bondholders who participated in the restructuring of
most of the Argentinean debt in 2005 and 2010. Their cumulative demands
would total anywhere between US$ 4 and US$ 15 billion. Argentina’s
finance minister, Axel Kicillof, argues that this in turn would threaten
to unravel the entire restructuring of the country’s debt, potentially
unleashing claims for more than US$ 120 billion. Given the fact that
Argentina’s foreign reserves currently total less than US$ 30 billion,
this would mean a total default of the country’s economy. If this
happens, Argentina would face yet another deep crisis with a tremendous
increase of poverty and unemployment as happened when the country faced
its last slump and default in 2001/02. In other words: The greedy
imperialist monopolies threaten Argentina with another national
catastrophe!

Below we reprint a very progressive statement initiated by the Jews for
Palestinian Right of Return. Our comrade Yossi Schwartz, a well-know,
lifelong communist and Anti-Zionist, and key representative of the
Internationalist Socialist League (RCIT-Section in Israel/Occupied
Palestine), was among the initial signers of this petition. The
statement justly condemns the reactionary Israeli war against the
Palestinian people in Gaza as well as the Apartheid regime in the whole
of historic Palestine. In addition, the signers of the petition support
the international boycott campaign against Israel. As the statement is
limited to radical democratic demands, it does not include the goal for
which the RCIT and the ISL are fighting: a Democratic, Palestinian,
Multinational and Socialist Workers and Fallahin Republic from the River
to the Sea; in other words, a Free, Red Palestine. Nevertheless, this
limitation does not negate the very progressive nature of this petition
which constitutes a powerful tool against the reactionary myth spread by
the Israeli state and its international supporters, i.e., that Israel
represents the interests of all Jews and all who oppose the Israeli
state are therefore “Anti-Semites.” The RCIT and the ISL urge Jews
in Israel / Occupied Palestine and around the world to sign this
petition.

Note: The statement was initially signed by 200 individuals and received
more than 1,500 additional signatures in only two day!

1. As we approach the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of World War I, 
the historic crisis of world capitalism is again exacerbating the 
rivalry between the great imperialist powers. The most obvious examples 
of this are the recent flare ups between NATO and Russia over the crisis 
in the Ukraine and the tensions between China and Japan, as well as the 
USA, in the South China Sea. While an armed confrontation between these 
imperialist powers is unlikely in the near future, it is obvious that, 
on the centennial of the start of World War I in 1914, a new Cold War 
has started. This Cold War will prove to have been the preamble to 
future wars – first between proxies and later between the great powers 
themselves – if the international working class will not have prevented

Iraq: Defend the Sunni Rebellion against the Maliki Regime and US
Imperialism!

Down with all Reactionary Religious Sectarianism! For a Workers’ and
Peasants’ Republic!

1. A mass rebellion of the Sunni population has swept away government
control over most of the Sunni areas in Iraq. This rebellion has sounded
alarm bells not only among the bourgeois-Islamist Shia sectarian regime
of Nouri al-Maliki, but also among the ruling classes in Washington and
Teheran. The resulting destabilization of post-occupation Iraq signals a
major defeat for US imperialism. As a result, the US has begun a new
military intervention in Iraq. In light of these developments, the
central task of socialists is to defend the uprising against the
attempts of the Maliki regime, as well as of Washington and Teheran, to
crush it. At the same time, reactionary forces like the arch-reactionary
Salafist group Islamic State in Iraq and Levante (ISIL – often also
abridged as ISIS) must be driven back, since they represent a major
obstacle to the building of a non-sectarian resistance of workers and
peasants in the Middle East against imperialism and reactionary
dictatorships. The task is to transform the current rebellions in the
Middle East into a region-wide class struggle for a socialist federation
of workers’ and peasants’ republics.

The “Liaison Committee of Communists” (LCC) has published a polemic
against the RCIT’s statement on the recent military coup d’état in
Thailand. (1) Their criticism is an illustrative example of ultra-left
confusion which completely ignores the importance of democratic
struggles. In fact, the LCC’s critique is a remake of the sterile
accusations of the Italian ultra-left communist, Amadeo Bordiga, against
the Bolshevik method as developed and defended by Lenin and Trotsky.

In our statement – as well as in other documents on Thailand – we
have elaborated the necessity for socialists in Thailand to mobilize
against the military coup d’état and to call for joint actions with
the Red Shirt movement. We have stated that, in the actual confrontation
between the government and the military putschists, socialists have to
defend the former against the latter. While socialists should work
towards a united front with the workers and poor peasants who have
repeatedly shown their support for the ruling Pheu Thai Party, they
should not give any political support to this party. We have called for
the formation of a revolutionary workers party which will aim to break
the workers and poor peasants away from the Pheu Thai Party and win them
for a revolutionary socialist perspective.
