[MCN-L] Kiosk Pro Plus
Hi, We set the screen light/brightness to just over 50% (iPad settings) then we set the Kiosk Pro Plus to sleep immediately when we close and to restart just before we open in the morning. This is because we shut of the power in the gallery at night. So we?re checking those specs now. We are using Kisok Pro Plus on iPads installed in our galleries. The devices are constantly plugged into power and the cords are enclosed in the cases and behind the walls so they are not exposed in order to be tampered with. Given all that, we are still see on screen error messages that the devices are low on power and we are getting email reports from Kiosk Pro that they are low on power but contacted to a power source. Has anyone else had this experience and know what the solution is? Hi Heather, We had a similar charging issue with an ipad stand, apple issued charger and an aftermarket extension cable. We determined that it was in fact, the length of the cable that was the issue. When the station was in constant use, if the iPad was not fully charged to begin with, the apple chord + extension cable was not able to recharge the battery at the same rate that it was being used. We solved the problem by putting the kiosk to sleep at night to give the kiosk time to recharge fully. Hi all: For long-run USB power, I suggest using a PoE (Power over Ethernet)-to-USB adapter, which would allow you to run your iPad's USB power over standard, cheap CAT5e cabling, without voltage/current drop. Theoretically, you'd have a 100m distance limitation. You can get the adapters for under $30 on Amazon: http://amzn.to/1F4Q2Ss Hope this helps, *Adam Carrier* Web Manager (757) 952-0431 acarrier at marinersmuseum.org *The Mariners' Museum and Park* 100 Museum Drive Newport News, VA 23606 On Thu, Oct 16, 2014 at 12:39 PM, Margaret Collerd mcollerd at phillipscollection.org wrote: Hi Heather, We had a similar charging issue with an ipad stand, apple issued charger and an aftermarket extension cable. It's very popular on themes by WooThemes. http://www.woothemes.com/2014/06/timthumb-vulnerability-protect-website/ There have been several security issues with timThumb so many hosts and developers stopped supporting it, though it's still widely used by people like me. As long as you're running the most recent version of timthumb, your plugins are updated, and you're running the most recent version of WordPress, you should be good. Replacing timthumb usually requires rewriting part of your theme. This can vary from a few hours of work to a few weeks, depending on how the theme was built. The best way to get an accurate quote is to work w a web shop, agency, or freelancer on a retainer or consult. I'm not sure what exactly timthumb does or did, but we use Post Thumbnail Editor for creating thumbnails and other sizes of pictures to be used on our site. Maybe it can work for you too?
