[MCN-L] Game Plan program is looking for museums to participate

2020-11-04 Thread Shelby Marshall
Hi all,

A friend at Games for Change sent the following email to us at FableVision.
It's about a very cool game design program that is looking for museums in NYC,
LA, Atlanta, and Detroit.

Enjoy!
Shelby

Greetings,

I hope this email finds you well! Games for Change
 has been working with the Institute of Museum
and Library Services on a brand new program called Game
Plan and looking for museums to participate.

Game Plan is a new program to integrate game design into museum education
programs while adapting methods and materials from Games for Change’s Student
Challenge . The program will
run from November 2020 to June 2021. The goals of the initiative are to provide
professional development to museum educators and employees related to game
design, strengthen museum ties to communities, and improve learning outcomes
for youth. These goals have even greater urgency now during the COVID-19
pandemic, as museums face unprecedented disruption and must forge new ways of
connecting with communities that need the services of cultural institutions
more than ever.

The core components of the Game Plan initiative include:
An open application to the program to museums and educators in our target
cities (NYC, LA, Atlanta and Detroit), forging learning cohorts.
New online professional development training for educators (3 courses),
tentatively scheduled for November, February and April;
Downloadable materials for museum educators and students for home learning and
game creation;
Virtual game jams and office hours for interactive learning and skills building;
A Student Challenge theme on resilience to encourage teens to creatively
respond to COVID-19, addressing how well-being for themselves, in their homes,
and communities; and
Culminating events (virtual if necessary) in each city that exhibit games and
celebrate student achievement by awarding juried prizes that encourage further
learning and exploration.

We are thrilled to bring this program to 10 museum education departments in 4
cities (Atlanta, Detroit, Los Angeles, New York) across the US and offer a
stipend to the museum to cover the costs associated with participation.

If you are interested in applying to become a part of this program, you can
access the application here: bit.ly/gameplan_app .
If you have questions, or would like to know any other information, we are
happy to set up a call. I hope to hear from you soon!

Thank you!
