Re: [meteorite-list] Is there room for a meteorite question ?

2003-12-09 Thread E. L. Jones
Hello Lars,

The cooling speed must remain within the limits of a few degrees per
million years for the nickel atoms to migrate and align. I think the
temperature bands where Widmanstätten pattern (i.e. taenite/kamacite
lattices) can occur is between 1400° and 800°C. (pressure relative).
Above 1400° is molten and below 800° only kamacite forms.

The width of the spaces are directly related to cooling duration. Finer
lattice indicates a shorter cooling cycle. The bands /pattern will
remain at what ever level they were if cooling suddenly drops below 800°C..

To my knowledge the Rare Earth Element (REE) chemistry values haven't
been cross matched between fine to course. That is no evidence links
any of the iron classes to any common parent body. Someone may have now
checked this as my research is old.

Intuitively, it seems to make sense that there is a gradient from core
to surface, however the high thermo-transmission co-effecients of nickel
-iron might keep an average sized asteroid even tempered. perhaps
someone else has detailed information. Does anyone have information
about common parent bodies for Iron meteorites?

Regards,
Elton
Lars Pedersen wrote:

I was just looking at the Widmanstätten pattern on a few of my iron-slices

I was wondering if anyone know if the cooling speed of the asteroid core has
something to do with the pattern (from fine toward coarse) ?
I thought that maybe the coarser types maybe are from deeper in the core ?

My english is not the best but I hope you understand what I mean.

Best wishes
Lars Pedersen

2003-12-09 Thread mark ford

On the same note, thermal expansion...

Presumably as the core solidifies (cools down) it would contract, would
it not?, what effect would that have on the crystalline structure
(widmanstatten) would there be a gradual stress/distortion in the
taenite/kamacite boundries ?

I guess as the core is such a big mass, any significant thermal
contraction distortion would hardly be noticeable in a small hand
specimen but I would imagine the thermal contraction in something the
size of a large planetary body would be massive.

Hi all,

These are only the impressions of a newbie. I tried to come up with a list of

when I saw the first Tom thing. I only saw a small part of the second. Funny
as that stuff is, I hate to see it take priority. I could go on about freedom

[meteorite-list] Saw One Fireball

2003-12-09 Thread CalSouth1

Well,

I finally got to see a small fireball during twilight tonight at 5:26 PST. In the NE Quad about 15 deg. above the horizon and streaking due East. After it entered the atmosphere, it lasted for about 3 seconds and I saw a few particles fall off and trail behind. Bright green and white glow. It extingquished about 5 degrees above the horizon. Location, Barstow, CA.

Really nice sight that was.

Re: [meteorite-list] My Top 10 of classic meteorites for Beginners

2003-12-09 Thread j . divelbiss
Martin and others,

Martin, with your list you have captured my thought that started this thread.

What classic meteorites are first rate, recommended and available to
collectors, and as rocks should remain stable in our lifetime.

Mark Bostick, your list list also captured this thought. Other lists were a
combination of classics and personal favorites. Another list given by Chicago
Steve is, well...unique.

Norbert's list is an all-galaxy roster of primo cut/choice materials that do
belong on some kind of all time list. What a list it was...I wish they were
available to all of us.

My first list was written in about 3 minutes...I did not put a lot of thought
into it but would only change a few to create my own classic
list...meteorites that we all should own.

I'll give this list to others one day when they ask...What would you
recommend I start my collection with? The classics of course.

John

PS Maybe I'll make it a list of 20, or 50...

 Hi - here's my Beginner's Top Ten,

because I'm sometimes asked, which meteorites would be suitable for the
 beginning collector.

 1. Mundrabilla (etched)
 2. Juancheng
 3. Sikhote-Alin
 4. Allende
 5. Millbillillie
 6. A big unclassified NWA
 7. DaG 735
 8. A meteorite from your home country
 9. Vaca Muerta
 10. Dho 461

 Remarks:
 1. Mundrabilla with a proper etching is one of the most beautiful iron
meteorites. The lamellae are short and the fields small , thus already on
small surfaces there are a lot of details and the pattern visible (Neumanns,
 Troilit eyes, sometimes barred..).
If you don't find an etched Mundrabilla, take a Gibeon, but take care, that
 the Widmannstättern are not faible.

 2. Juancheng
It's an obseved fall, cheap and much fresher than the Gao-Guenies. Perfect
 Peas like Pultusk.
Cut, it's one of the best breccias, which you will find for the money.

 3. Sikhote, of course. A famous fall, well available. Choose an entire
specimen with good regmaglypts (no shrapnel) and try to get a blue one
 with real fusion crust.
It's the largest iron shower in modern times and the single one which
produced such an immense number of complete, regmaglypted fresh individuals.
No similar iron is available at a comparable low price.

 4. Allende.
one of the cheapest CV3. Covers the corbonaceous group. Contains the
oldest known minerals of the solar system. Observed fall. Take care not to
buy a brownish weathered specimen, choose a cut specimen with those large
witish, irregular shaped inclusions, called CAIs.

 5. For the HED-Group Achondrites Millbillillie is ideal, it's fresh, a
classic locality and not more expensive than most of the weathered desert
eucrites. Take a fullslice or an endcut. Pay not more than 15/g at a dealer
or try to get it cheaper from ebay.

 6. Now you'll need a real big specimen for putting on the desk, for
impressing your friends, for playing and for satisfying your haptic desires.
Take an unclassified desert find from ebay, don't pay more than 80-120/kg,
except it is a fresh crusted or oriented one. Criteria for the choice: You
just have to like it and it has to be LARGE!

 7. All beginners want to have a piece from Moon or Mars!
DaG 735 is fresher than DaG 476, both are the cheapest SNCs. Normal
price on ebay would be +/- 250$/g nowadays. Beware of those enthusiasts, who
still have them on their pages at prices from years ago of 1200/g and up.

 8. All collectors will feel after a while, that they urgently need a
meteorite found as near as possible to their homes. Search the BMH-online
database to find the findsfalls of your home county and then: happy
 hunting!

 9. Vaca Muerta is by far the cheapest Mesosiderite. Cheaper than all rusty,
 crusty desert Mesos.
Take a cut specimen, it should be as fresh as possible (take a look if
it has much fresh metal) and choose that one, which has the largest variety
of inclusions. Pay not more than 2 - 2.5$/g.
If it should be a Pallasite: Brenham and Brahin are by far the cheapest, but
problematic concerning rust. Choose a sealed slice (and this is still no
guarantee, that it will remain stable!). Take a Brahin from ebay and don't
 pay more than 2$/g.
More expensive, but aesthetic and good boys, are Imilac and Esquel. Very
stable without any prevention. Translucent slices of Imilac (forget the
individuals of Imilac, mostly they are skeletons without olivines) starts
approx. at 15/g, but are more difficult to find than Esquel.

 10. See 7. Why Dho 461? Because some fools recently got hysteric about a
little oscillation of the Moon prices and didn't get it yet, that the prices
are now again the same as before this short period, so that they still throw
away their Dho 461 at 500$/g, which is a somewhat silly cheap price, hehe.

Keep your fingers away from Nantan, Campo del Cielo, Dronino - they are dirt
cheap, but often rust like hell, so that it's no fun at the beginning and
they will stay cheap until you are more

2003-12-09 Thread Fredmeteorhall
Hello Collectors;
I'd be hard pressed to pick only ten of my favorite meteorites as I have so many that impress me with their internal or external structure, shape or beauty. But as to the names of meteorites, well, here are my top ten names:
1. Apex (At the top of my list.)
2. Answer (What's the question?)
3. Bagnone (And why not?)
4. Barwise (Something it took me years to become.)
5. Beer Bottle Pass (See #4.)
6. Big Rock Donga (The nick name I'd love to have...Hey guys, there goes Big Rock Donga!)
7. Broken Bow (From Custer Co., the kid in me still loves Cowboys and Indians.)
8. Cartoonkana (Because I have Cartoon Karma. Would one of you Aussie lads tell me what the "kana" means? A close second to Cartoonkana is Camel Donga. Does Donga mean "big expanse" or "hot desert" or "Kangaroo droppings" or what?)
9. Crab Hole (Well, because I like the critters, both along the shore and in my soup!)
10. Cockelbiddy (Hey, the Aussies do have a way with names, like Dingo Pup Donga, Gunnadorah, Kittakittaooloo, Millbillillie, Milly Milly, etc. Do the Aussies stay up late at night, drinking one beer after another, trying to out do each other with wild names? Like...George named his Donga "Dingo Pup", so I'm gonna name mine "Muckera Laundry Rockhole Big Rear Rabbit Donga!" )

That's my top ten list up to the D's.
High Regards To All, Fred "Big Rock Donga" Hall

Re: [meteorite-list] Old Roman coins

2003-12-09 Thread Eric Hutton
extract from the Catalogue of the Ward-Coonley collection of meteorites,
by Henry A. Ward. 1904 edition.

XI. MEDALS OF METEORITES.

The people of antiquity looked upon the heavenly bodies as the places of
abode of gods and being higher than mankind. Thus it came to pass that they
gave divine worship to objects which were seen to fall from the celestail
spaces. They built special temples, in which they preserved them with
sacred care. They were also displayed for public worship under a priest
appointed for the special purpose. These Meteorites received from the early
Greeks the name Betyls, probably from the earlier Hebraic Beth-el, or home
of God. In the early centuries--both B.C. and A.D.--the habit prevailed in
Macedonia, Cyprus, Mallos, Perge, Sidon, Tripolis, Tyrus and many other
places to make medals to commemorate the fall of meteorites. Such medals
were struck by order of Philip II, Alexander III, Augustus, Caligula,
Vespasian, Trajan, Marcus Aurelius, Septimus Severus, Heliogabalus, and
others. Dr Aristides Brezina, of Vienna, has given much study to this
numismatic meteorology. From him our collection has received a series of
sixty casts or replica of these medals. We give below Dr. Brezina's list of
these with his prefatory words:

BETYL COINS.
By Dr. Aristides Brezina

As the ancients supposed the stars to be the domiciles of gods, falling
stars and falling meteorites signified to them the descending of a god or
the sending of his image to the earth. These envoys were received with
divine honors, embalmed and draped and worshipped in temples by emperors and
autonomous cities. In general the image of a stone was first given in
naturalistic manner, then by and by became more human-like. Many of these
betyl coins represent stones expressly reported to have fallen from heaven.
They present many common features, the likeness to obelisks or cones, and
later on a half-human likeness or half-iconic form. So it came that similar
representations of unknown origin were likewise supposed to represent
meteorites in the same manner as among meteorites are recorded those seen to
fall and others which had been only found and had been supposed to be
meteorites because of the likeness to the former and their difference from
terrestrial rocks.

Betyls reported to have fallen from heaven are the Ompholos of Delphi,
represented on coins of sixty-five towns and countries; the stone of Emisa
(El Gabol) from seven towns; Zeus Katabates of Kyrrboro and Anazarbos, Zeus
Keraunios (two towns); stone of Aphrodite Paphia (five towns); Artemis
Ephesia (sixty-nine towns); stone of Astarte (eight towns); stones of Athena
(seventeen towns). Betyl coins accepted by analogy are: The Pyramids of
Apollon, the Stones of Zeus Dolicheros of Tarsos and of Zeus Kasios of
Seleucia, the Simulacres of Artemis Pergia, Samian Hera, Persephone, etc.,
together 342 towns. Related celestial bodies are the Comets, represented on
the coins of Rome and (in modern times) of Silesia.

The present collection of sixty coins with meteorits symbols represents
nineteen deites and thirty-seven towns. [Footnote..The full collection
of Betyl medals of Dr. Brezina number several hundred kinds.]

Re: [meteorite-list] Is this a meteorite or just a wierd rock?

2003-12-09 Thread David Hathaway
Thanks for your help everyone.. Here are the answers to various questions I
received. Looks like the going opinion is that is just a rock though.

Q: Does yours streak black? (And I mean REALLY black.)
A: Does not streak at all. Very hard rock.

Q: See if you can estimate its density.
A: Not sure how to estimate a density but it is one of the densest I have
come across.

Q: My first guess is some sort of slag, but it could be natural too.
A: Definitely not man-made, this was in the middle of nowhere (discovered it
while hunting). There are few towns in that part of the state and the only
industry I am aware of is cattle.

Q: Any rail road with in 10 miles?
A: Nope

Q: That face looks like zinc or lead.
A: Don't know a the qualities of zinc but I can say for certain it is not
lead.

-Original message-

I found this out of place rock in the South-Eastern Oregon desert a couple
months ago. It is very heavy and has an extremely weak but present
attraction to magnet. It doesn't look like any of the meteorites I've seen
but the magnetic attraction and the rounded surface crust make me wonder.
What do you think?

Dear Martin, List;
I really like the first couple of CLASSIC lists and then it started

Yah, yah, yah.
I would prefer to corrupt to Getting started, the Beginners Collection

Here is my List. It is chosen for education purposes, for cost factor,
for beauty, and FOR NUTURING LOVE OF THE HOBBY.

1. Gibeon...great iron, cost effective for larger piece, nice
widmanstatten pattern, iron education.
2. Any NWA... to learn fusion crust, cost effective for larger
specimen, learn the iron grains principal. Learn of hunting the
deserts and where meteorites are easier to spot, geo politics, foreign

3. Nantan...Lets learn rust, Lawrencite, before we get too far
financially into meteorites, lets learn to protect them. Very
affordable, learn to love the down trodden that fell in the wrong

4.Allende...Lets learn how precious they are, carbonaceous

strewnfield education, geo-economics of meteorites in small communities.
5. Canyon Dieblo. This is the crater meteorite, lets learn a
little about impacts, impactites, and astrophysics of meteorites,
History of mining and property rights of meteorite locations,
HISTORY of meteorites is important, this one has history.
6. Any meteorite from one's home state/area that is a local meteorite to
say, this is found where I come from...
7. Any meteorite that one has found. Finding ones own meteorite is hard
to do but this is an extremely important part of
any beginner's collection. Not all meteorites in the Beginners
Collection should be easy to bag. Note lucky #7! This one
leaves the amateur LOTS of room for optimism to grown in the the
hobby, ask lots of questions, a chance to contribute to
the world of meteorites. I suppose in retrospect that by the time
one finds their first meteorite, that they MAY break out of the
beginner collecting catagory.
8. Any meteorite from a famous dealer either past or present, worship
those that help the hobby. My First was from Jim Strope,
second was from Mike Farmer, third was a Bob Haag pallesite! I was off
to a great start!
9. Bragging spot for personal bragger, either large, small, gift from
?, hole in it, venus or odd shapped shikote-alin, lookslike
a squirrel, boughtit for a dime, etc. This one goes in the special
to me box. Now here one would find a bessy speck of Moon
or Mars, or specks of Tagish Lake, or even Park Forest! Remember
beginner word, meaning affordable, and probably
small, fascinating in nature.
10. Not even a meteorite, FIND A FALLING STAR by H. H. Nininger. and in
this slot too, Rocks From Space or any other special book
that may or may not bear a signature of a living meteorite person . A to
Z that is signed would fit!

11. (What is this)...A nice collection of locally found meteorwrongs for
education in what makes a meteorite a meteorite, andnot.

I realize this is not an official classic meteorite list but Beginners
Collection TO ENRICH THE LOVE OF COLLECTING METEORITES would be more
interesting to the beginner. Having been there, and what I found most
valuable to bag early list would be the same as classic?
Sorry for my corruption of the classic theme.

PS Maybe I'll make it a list of 20, or 50...

Hi - here's my Beginner's Top Ten,

1. Mundrabilla (etched)

2003-12-09 Thread Dave Schultz
Greetings. I know that this might be a little off
topic these days, but I was just wondering, with only
2 months to go till Tucson that I haven`t seen any
adds or anything anywhere else about Michael Blood`s

anywhere? Shouldn`t we be seeing something really soon
about these and also if you possibly wanted to list
something in said auctions, would you contact them

2003-12-09 Thread LITIG8NSHARK

Good morning Folks,

I've remained silent regarding these recent threads until now. I am shaking my head in disbelief. Is all this really necessary Matteo? Personal differences between membersaside, I hate to see the disintegration, or attempted fracturing,of a group which, in the recent past has essentially dedicated itself to advancing the science of meteoritics. Maybe Rosie, and a few like her, were right some months ago whenthey ceased participating.

There will always be personal differences among such a diverse group of people. But in my humble opinion, that is no reason to throw the baby outwith the bath wateror to advocate it. The advancement of science has no room for the exclusion of qualified individuals based solely upon personal caprice. It is just ignorant.

Have a great week all.

It is necessary why by now, for guilt of that I know,
it has put in turn false voices here on my account,
creating a sense of distrust from part of that a once
I considered my friends. This group that I
have opened collects the true friends, those that
deserve my respect. As far as the others, that thanks
that personage whom it has ruined all, while for the
other anchor the group is opened also they, but under
my control in the entrance.

Matteo

[meteorite-list] Re: Petrographic Microscope article/book

2003-12-09 Thread Mikestockj

Hi List
I just received my Nov.-Dec. issue of the Mineralogical Record. Surprisingly it had a supplement included titled "The Petrographic Microscope Evolution of a Mineralogical Research Instrument" by Daniel E. Kile. Anytime the Mineralogical Record produces anything they do it masterfully. This article is no exception. It is full of color photos (108 figures), 98 pages and no outside advertisers. Sections include:
Characteristics of the petrographic microscope(pm)
Properties observable with the pm
Historical development of the pm
Manufacturers of the pm
Accessories for the pm
others
References 11 pages
This completely covers the subject matter better than any other publication I have ran across. It even includes a photo of a barred olivine crystal from Saratov.
They are selling it for only $20 plus $2 s h in the US. They will ship to outside the US just ask for a rate. If you are interested just send me an email and I will get the info for purchasing the book. No, I don't sell it and I don't make anything from sales of the article.

[meteorite-list] US going back to the moon????

2003-12-09 Thread Randy Mils

Top 11 reasonsBUSH wants to go to the moon:

11. Even his imagination is 40 years behind.

10. His ranch has even more barren landscapes than those used to film the "moon landings" at LBJ's.

9. Just finished reading "Goodnight, Moon."

8. Halliburton lobbying to "rebuild" it.

7. Running out of places not to find Saddam Hussein, bin Laden, the Anthrax killer, the White House traitor, the Prescription Drug Plan briber...

6. No need to set up free speech zones when he arrives.

5. Couldn't think of a less useful scientific endeavor.

4. Need to find more places to export American jobs.

3. Scientists whom Bush cites to refute global warming also believe the moon is made of crude oil and beer.

2. It's the perfect test for his hydrogen-powered car.

1. It's faster, cheaper and easier than getting out of Iraq.

[meteorite-list] 1907 Ash Fall in Nome Alaska not Volcanic(?)

2003-12-09 Thread Robert Verish
http://www.explorenorth.com/library/weekly/more/bl-nomeash.htm

Ash Fall in Nome Related Events

Norman Kagan has searched issues of the Nome Nugget
(NN) prior to October 21, 1910, and and Nome Gold
Digger (GD) of 1907 for articles of possible meteorite
strikes or related events, and has compiled the
following list. Thanks, Norm!

A. Regarding Ash of November 1907

NN, November 25, 1907 - Volcanic ash fell throughout
Gold Run country - Nome, Teller, Tin City. The source
is unknown but is not nearby - Aleutian Islands
possible.

GD, November 27, 1907 - Volcano active near Cape
Blossom, ash seen in Candle and Nome.

NN, November 27, 1907 - Some 280 tons of ash are
thought to have fallen on Nome.

GD, November 28, 1907 - Theory of meteor ash, not
volcano, fell in town - assayed at 30% iron

GD, December 5, 1907 - Mail carrier Erik Johnson
reports hard trip owing to meteoric dust over an inch
thick covering the ice of Norton Bay.

NN, December 6, 1907 - Ash 1 inch thick fell on Ear
Mountain between Nov. 24 and 25; strong winds were
blowing from Siberia.

NN, December 7, 1907 - Arthur Gibson of the Nome
Weather Bureau says the ash is not volcanic but
meteoric as it has a high iron content. He believes
the Andromedes meteors of Nov 23 and 24 caused the
fall. He has sent a sample to Washington for analysis.

NN, January 4, 1908 - Volcanic ash fell over all of
Innoko district, says letter.

NN, January 21, 1908 - Arthur Gibson has received four
samples of ash from other Seward Peninsula areas; all
differ in color and grain size, sent for testing.

NN, March 23, 1908 - A. Gibson received
acknowledgement of ash in Washington, D.C.

NN, August 28, 1908 - Volcanic ash, says U.S.
Geological Dept. analysis

NN, Sept 4, 1908 - Hobson of Hobson's Landing,
Kuskokwin says November ash was due to volcano some
sixty miles north of his place, witnessed eruption.

NN, Sept 9, 1908 - Alfred Brooks, local US Geological
Dept. man, says ash came from Siberia or the Aleutian
Islands.

B. Events ca. June 30, 1908

NN, June 30, 1908 - 20,000 acres burning between
Kokrines and Louden on Yukon River.
- Tundra fires raging at Jess Creek, and a Candle
throughout Seward Peninsula.

NN, July 1, 1908 - Huge fires along Yukon River, worst
ever, Penny River, Jess Creek and Fox River the past 3
days. Sam Simel's Anvik store destroyed.

NN, July 2, 1908 - Letter from eastern Siberian coast
reports strange winter weather: cold and disagreeable
from 30 to 50 below zero, strong winds from all
directions, only two days in February when miners
could work.
- Tundra fires burn in Kougarak District, Solomon Lake
and Penny River. Fires also on Koyuk River, Fish River
and east of Norton Sound.

NN, July 3, 1908 - Rainfall extinguishes tundra fires
above Penny River, Sunset Creek and Solomon Lake.

NN, July 4, 1908 - Tundra fires persist at Unalakleet.

C. Other News (Nome received ship and telegraphic
reports, wireless after 1910)

NN, July 13, 1908 (Philadelphia - July 11) Dutch
Steamer Ocean, Capt. Benkert reports near hit of
large meteor some 200 miles east of Philadelphia.
Tremendous wave swept ship, cloud of noxious gas
forced men below decks, peculiar brown dust settled
aboard. Meteor shower continued for several minutes,
and sea was phosphorescent to horizon. This story
seems to follow another in which a ship was wrecked by
a meteor.

NN, Aug 24, 1908 (Salina, Kansas - Aug 23): Salina
shaken by nearby meteor strike.

NN, Nov 21, 1908 (Salina, Kansas - Nov 21): A large
meteor fell 3 miles north of Ellsworth last night -
exploded on impact, lit up area for 20 minutes.

GD, July 30, 1909 (Dawson, Yukon - July 10): Meteorite
found on #7 Big Skookum Gulch, off Bonanza Creek. It
weighed 35 lbs, was dense and smooth, dug out from
long ago.

[meteorite-list] Belated Weekly invitation to eBayMeteorites.

2003-12-09 Thread Steve Schoner
Hello all,

Due to the death of my mother last week, I was not
able to post the weekly invite this last Sunday.

So here it is.

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/eBayMeteorites/

Eight new members were welcomed bringing the listing
to 50.

The unstated purpose of this is to present a format
for authentic meteorites by dealers and collectors,
and with the now stated purpose of relieving the
MetList of numerous eBay AD so that the subjects will
be primarily meteorites rather than auctions of such.

Not sure if it will work, as it is still in in its
inception. There are other groups such as
meteoritecollectors but this group is for auctions
only, unnecessary debate deleted.

Check it out

[meteorite-list] Is this a meteorite or just a wierd rock? foundary plug]

2003-12-09 Thread E. L. Jones
Hello David,

For all my experience in researching old mines and old furnaces, it is
trough plug from a foundry operation.

Some foundries, especially older ones that didn't have overhead cranes
and large crucibles have channels in the floor from the furnace to a
bank(tree) of molds. The molten metal was released into any of several
brick, sand, or clay-lined channels at the the tapping hearth and
flowed out into the castting floor/ house/ room to the ingot molds
(pigs)*. Slag was drawn off first. Not to be confused with furnice plugs
or taps which were ceramic clay and broken to release the molten slag or
metal, these plugs stemmed from an overflow in the channel and had to be
cleared when cooled. If they graded in they went back into the next
charge if they graded out they were tossed or sold to shipping lines
to be used as ballast on ships. This is about the right width and shape
in cross section for a typical channel although it could have been from
a pig which graded out. The top to bottom zoning suggests a plug.

The reason it looks like a loaf of bread on top is that metal tends to
be highly cohesive and has a convex(rounded) meniscus. In case anyone
ever runs across metal cow patties-- these are another foundry
artifact and are splash forms which actually splattered when being
poured. I don't remember what they were nicknamed. I frequently find
them in old railroad right of ways.

Your item is possibly high in zinc, as there is little oxidation, and/or
pot metal, which is a low grade assemblage of whatever came into the
reclamation pile that month, or slag residue. Slag is a generic term but
usually contains more silica/ glass than metal-usually no free metal.
This section appears to be more metal than slag/glass.

99% certain it is not a meteorite and it would take a long time to
point out all the reason's why. Keep looking at photos enough and it
will make more sense. If you read the descriptions now in use as to
what is or isn't a meteorite just about anything can look like a
meteorite. At least photos can help screen some items.

Regards,
Elton
* Tradition says the the term pig came from the arrangement of the
ingot molds off the channel, which reminded the smelters of a sow pig
nursing a litter and is the origin of the term pig iron.
