Re: [meteorite-list] The Draveil meteorite
A meteorite for Paris - before, incredibly ... and now a dream come true. I could not resist Matthias, since the French culture is so commendable, more than almost anything, polite and refined - second only to being French itself. Probably, this Parisian meteorite will be a highly desirable ingredient of one of the tastiest and oldest cuisines of meteorites in the world. It will be spectacular to see, if the material's distribution stays very restricted, whether one must request the prices on the menu for fine dining in a French restaurant for the ordinary fare ... ; and whether soft words butter no parsnips - from the finest chefs of France ! How exciting to be in Paris, these days ... un souhait, I wish, my wish ... (Pining over those lost nights of a nostalgic summer in Paris, which now seems so long ago) Kindest wishes, et, L'addition s'il vous plait. Oh non! Je fais la vaisselle, monsieur! ;-) Doug -Original Message- From: Matthias Bärmann majbaerm...@web.de To: Impactika impact...@aol.com; meteorite-list meteorite-list@meteoritecentral.com; COMeteoriteClub cometeoritec...@yahoogroups.com; MexicoDoug mexicod...@aim.com Sent: Sun, Oct 16, 2011 4:14 am Subject: Re: [meteorite-list] The Draveil meteorite BTW, on today's date in Paris in 1793, Marie Antoinette told the executioner moments before giving her the French Penalty, Pardon me, mon sieur, I did not mean to step on your foot. [meteorite-list] AD - MAUERKIRCHEN - November 20, 1768 ! - very rare historic fall
Dear list members I have an auction for collectors of historic meteorites ending on EBAY today. For sale is a small affordable fragment of a very hard to get historic meteorite from the 18th Century: Have a look if you like. http://shop.ebay.com/karmaka/m.html MAUERKIRCHEN 1768 Fall (Bavaria/Austria) !! - VERY RARE witnessed historic fall (November 20, 1768) http://www.ebay.com/itm/MAUERKIRCHEN-1768-EXTREMELY-RARE-Historic-Meteorite-Fall-/320774050156?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0hash=item4aaf9f916c Mauerkirchen has a low distribution in collections worldwide In a letter to Ernst Chladni 'Hofrath' [councilor] Mr. Blumenbach wrote the following about the Mauerkirchen fall: In the evening, after 4 pm, of November 20, 1768, in the presence of a noticable dark sky in the Occident, several honest people, who have been questioned under oath, heard an unusual roar and a forceful bang in the air. It was similar to a thunder and shooting ofcannons. In the middle of this turmoil a stone fell from the air onto the field of the mercenary Georg Bart. It was confirmed by the authorities that this stone, making a hole of 2.5 feet [~ 75 cm] depth, was 6 inches [~15 cm] wide and weighed 38 Bavarian pounds. It is of soft matter so that it can be crumbled with the fingers. The color is bluish, mixed up with some white paste. On top of this it is covered with black bark. (translated from Annalen der Physik, Vol. 15, pages 316-317, published in 1803) old picture: http://www.encyclopedia-of-meteorites.com/test/mauerkirchen2.JPG The meteorite comes with two ID cards of well-known IMCA members. [meteorite-list] UPDATED: New Meteorites listed on Website BOVEDY LEIGHLINBRIDGE
Hi List. I apologize for my delay updating my Website as I had a re-roof (complete tear down...wood was good) to do on my house. My body hurts! Anyways I acquired some extreme rare historical meteorites and listed them on my Website in between the chaos of a roof job. They are the BOVEDY meteorite and the LEIGHLINBRIDGE meteorite. These are small slices that are affordable for the little guy collector out there. Very little of both these Irish meteorites are available and they don't come cheap! For you collectors, this may be a great opportunity to add a piece to your collection as once there gone... there gone, and not often ever available. My sales page will educate you on these historical meteorites. http://www.ctreasurescwonders.com/meteorite_sales.html I also have 2 auctions on eBay that will be listed on my Website starting at 8:00 pm EST and 8:15 pm EST respectively, so check my Meteorite Sales page as this time closes in. 1 is a rare ceramic Ensisheim meteorite pin and the other is a vintage meteorite postcard. I am in negotiations on acquiring 2 more incredible historical meteorites desired in any meteorite collection which will be listed in the near future on my Website. Thank you. [meteorite-list] Michael Blood's Post to IMCA members on the Met List
Greetings As it regards Michael Blood's outburst this past Friday, while I have much to say, I've decided to respond only briefly: 1. it might be noted that Blood's missive---directed to IMCA members via the Meteorite List---occurred because Blood cannot post to the IMCA list as he is no longer a member of the IMCA. Just hours before I solicited the IMCA for relief to Blood's misrepresentations in our transaction, he escaped the IMCA's jurisdiction by quitting the organization. 2. The substance and most details in Blood's presentation are false, and are seemingly part of his robust effort to save face. Such distortions and fictions will be addressed in another forum (whose jurisdiction he will not be able to so readily evade). 3. You did not overlook a piece of correspondence from me. While Blood wrote, If you're an IMCA member, you were recently sent a post from Darryl Pitt, I only wrote the IMCA list just once concerning this matter on August 22nd---nearly two months ago. The last time I there has been any contact between myself and Blood was on August 21st. What would prompt his correspondence at this time is anyone's guess.
