Re: [meteorite-list] Chelyabinsk purchase

2013-05-12 Thread Michael Brooks
Well after two months I finally received my Chelyabinsk. It was exactly as
advertised and pretty cool. The kicker is after trying to resolve it with the
seller and could not, I filed a claim with eBay. They refunded my money on the
same day I received my package. (Murphy) Well needless to say come Monday I
will contact eBay to resend the seller his money back. Upon examination of the
package he sent it when he stated he did, we just could not track it. This
restores my faith in humanity. I would like to thank all you naysayers out
there that slammed me for taking a chance and give you food for thought, better
late than never. For everyone who supported my actions, humanity 1, doubters 0.

Warm regards,

Michael Brooks

Hi Michael. I am sorry to hear this but be patient. I purchased my meteorite
on March 24 and received it April 2, coming from Latvia. I was a bit worried
as well, but researched this Seller before bidding. Boy did he surprise me!
Not only was shipping fast (about 10 days) but it was packed to withstand
entry through the Earth's atmosphere. Not only that I had to sign for it and
it came in a very nice white square Gem case with a glass front! My shipping
cost was only $8! Anyways here is a link to my Gallery of Meteorites
Collection so you can go to the C's and you can see the case and meteorite
Chelyabinsk I purchased. Its only a 1.15 gm whole stone 100% crust, but its
a beauty. Of course first thing I did when I received it was place it to a
neodymium magnet of which it took to. Be patient as I have had to wait as
much as 30 days on some of my collection. I do agree its getting a bit long
but it seems when I get edgy about it as I am sure you are, that all of a
 sudden i

 Subject: [meteorite-list] Chelyabinsk purchase

 Hello list,

I was curious how long it took for some of you to receive your meteorites
from Russia? The seller I purchased mine from stated that he sent it to me
on March 11, 2013, I have yet to receive it. I want to be prudent and seek
council from you before I make the decision to put a claim into PayPal. It
has been a little more than three weeks, could someone more experienced in
shipping to and from Russia please advise if I am correct in being a little
concerned or should I give it a few more weeks. I have questioned my seller
to this and have not received a satisfactory response. Yes I know the
danger of dealing with someone who is a new seller, however since I used
PayPal I felt assured that if it did not work out I would be able to recoup
my funds. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

 Warm regards,

 Michael Brooks

[meteorite-list] [Ad or Trade]: Does anyone need a Nikon UFX II?

2013-05-12 Thread Mendy Ouzillou
Hello everyone,
When I bought my Nikon SMZ-10T microscope, it came with a UFX II to allow
pictures to be taken with a 35mm film camera. I do not need it and would be
happy to either sell it for very cheap or trade it for a lens or a
meteorite. I do not know if it is functional, but it is at the very least
great for parts.
If you are at all interested email me off-list. I really want this to go to
a good home and not trying to make any money on this deal.
Regards and happy Mother's Day to you moms out there.
Mendy

[meteorite-list] Recent Meteorite Falls Update for 2013

2013-05-12 Thread Galactic Stone Ironworks
Hi Fall Chasers and Watchers,

For several years now, I have been correlating the various fall
reports that come across the web and press wires. I have done my best
to keep this list updated and accurate. It is done because I have a
burning passion for new falls borne of the fact that I cannot go out
and chase them myself - I live vicariously through you lucky hunters
who hit the field and recover the stones we all cherish.

To that effect, I want to thank a few other individuals with the same
passion, who I have drawn inspiration from to create my ongoing fall
project, or they generously share info about these falls as the
reports come in - in no particular order, Dirk Ross, The Jensens, and
various members of this list who are reliable experts who regularly
answer my inquiries to help confirm or deny these new reports.

At any rate, the fall rate for 2013 is picking up a bit and I have
updated the page with the most recent reliable accounts.

See the page here. The list is accurate and updated as of today.

Link - http://www.galactic-stone.com/pages/falls

I've also been keeping the Sutter's Mill Tally Page updated, but there
has not been much new activity to report -

Best regards and Happy Mother's Day,

Re: [meteorite-list] 1922 Blackstone VA 20-ton meteorite anyone?

2013-05-12 Thread Sterling K. Webb

Dirk, List,

This meteor fall is discussed in The great meteor
of May 11, 1922 by C. P. Olivier in Popular Astronomy,
Vol. 33, p.502. It can be found in:
http://adsabs.harvard.edu/full/1925PA.33..502O

It refers to sensational notices that appeared in the
daily papers during the next few days. Meraning, the
usual lies that newspaper conventionally use to sell
papers. In the 1920's I mean. They never do that today.

Do they?

Interestingly, most of the dozens of references to a
20-ton meteorite falling there are in the websites of
NEWSPAPERS, who obviously research the news
through older newspapers...

Steve, pack it in, if you got a piece it would end up on eBay in minutes at a

[meteorite-list] Moon's Water Came From Ancient Meteorites, Lunar Samples Suggest

2013-05-12 Thread Shawn Alan
Hello Listers,

Not sure if this has been posted to the List, but if not , enjoy.

Shawn Alan
IMCA 1633

http://www.ebay.com/sch/imca1633ny/m.html?

It has been suggest that Earths water came from meteorites, now there is some
samples from the moon that might suggested that in ancient times that
meteorites had brought water to the MOON.

Moon's Water Came From Ancient Meteorites, Lunar Samples Suggest

By: Charles Q. Choi
Published: 05/09/2013 02:06 PM EDT on SPACE.com

Water deep inside Earth and the moon may originate from the same source:
ancient meteorites, scientists say.
The findings hint that water may have existed on Earth before the giant impact
the planet received that created the moon, and that the moon possessed water
from its earliest moments, scientists added. It remains a mystery exactly how
water found within the moon survived this violent collision, though.
Water is vital to life as we know it, with organisms found virtually everywhere
there is water on Earth. When Earth was born, the ingredients of the planet's
water most likely would have formed beyond the orbit of Earth. As such, all the
water on the planet must have come from either comets or meteorites hurtling
inward from the outer solar system.
Until recently, scientists thought the interior of the moon was bone-dry,
originating as the moon did from the molten debris of a giant impact of a
Mars-size protoplanet against Earth about 4.5 billion years ago. The heat of
this collision should have baked all the ingredients of water out of the moon.
However, five years ago, the first evidence of hydrogen was discovered in lunar
samples from the Apollo missions. Hydrogen is a main ingredient of water, along
with oxygen..
