Re: [meteorite-list] New Antarctic Beauties---want
Hi Jim, I'm very sorry if the term 'picture book' was misleading. With this word I was referring to the great photos that are included in the met bull entries of the more interesting newly approved Antarctic specimens ( update 30 August, AMN 36(2) ), which could be found at the bottom of the page (link is dead now, try new link below). By clicking on the individual entries (starting with Larkman Nunatak 12002) you can see the great photos. I wish more met bull entries, beyond the ones from ANSMET, were illustrated in this way. It would be nice if one could always see photos of the main mass and a thin section of all newly approved meteorites. http://www.lpi.usra.edu/meteor/metbull.php?sea=*sfor=namesants=falls=valids=stype=containslrec=50map=gebrowse=country=Antarcticasrt=namecateg=Allmblist=Allrect=phot=snew=31pnt=Normal%20tabledr=page=5 Best regards Martin Von: jim_brady...@o2.co.uk An: meteorite-list@meteoritecentral.com Betreff: [meteorite-list] New Antarctic Beauties---want Datum: Sun, 01 Sep 2013 12:06:44 +0200 Thanks for pointing this out Martin Would love to buy it is there a link to buy the actual product, can't see one in the pdf and the met bull link came back null for me Jim __ Visit the Archives at http://www.meteorite-list-archives.com Meteorite-list mailing list Meteorite-list@meteoritecentral.com http://six.pairlist.net/mailman/listinfo/meteorite-list Postfach fast voll? [meteorite-list] Fond memories of dear meteorite hunting friend-Jim Kriegh
Hi All, This morning I was enjoying a cup of coffee and surfing the internet for meteorites. I ran across a story about Jim Kriegh 1928-2007, A remembrance in words and pictures by Geoffery Notkin. I had seen this article before but really enjoyed reading and viewing the pictures again. The story brought back so many great memories of Jim and the fun times in Tucson. Here is a link to the Remembrance of Jim Kriegh for those that did not know him and yes, it brought a tear to my eye. http://www.aerolite.org/portraits/jim-kriegh.htm Sonny __ Visit the Archives at http://www.meteorite-list-archives.com Meteorite-list mailing list Meteorite-list@meteoritecentral.com http://six.pairlist.net/mailman/listinfo/meteorite-list

[meteorite-list] [AD] Running a sale on beautiful fine grained basaltic eucrite, NWA 7874
Prices and slices available at the link below. http://www.meteoritesusa.com/nwa7874-eucrite/ Eucrite: NWA 7874 a very fine grained, equilibrated eucrite Physical characteristics: Single stone, shiny black fusion crust, saw cut reveals fresh, light-gray, fine-grained groundmass. Petrography: (C. Agee, UNM) Microprobe examination of a polished mount shows a protogranular texture with ~50% pyroxene and 45% plagioclase, grain size 10-100 μm, many pyroxenes with exsolution lamellae. Accessory silica, ilmenite, and chromite. Geochemistry: (C. Agee and L. Burkemper, UNM) Low Ca-pyroxene Fs60.6±1.7Wo3.0±1.9, Fe/Mn=33±1, n=14; high-Ca pyroxene Fs27.6±0.6 Wo42.3±0.8, Fe/Mn=34±1; n=7; plagioclase Or0.5±0.0Ab10.9±0.5An88.7±0.5, n=3. Classification: Achondrite (Eucrite). Equilibrated main group eucrite. Notes from Dr. Carl Agee: NWA 7874 is a fine grained basalt, thus quickly cooled. It is not considered monomict because it’s texture isn’t dominated by brecciation. It is not considered cumulate either based on the pyroxene compositions which are highly equilibrated, probably due to a second heating like metamorphism. Re: [meteorite-list] Fond memories of dear meteorite hunting friend-Jim Kriegh
Hello List, Hello Jim on your little Flora asteroid, Thank you very much, Sonny! The day Jim left us for good - October 10, 2007 - is once again not far away and so it is good to read those fond memories of a dear meteorite hunting friend ! Excerpt from Geoff's article: ...I'll always think of Jim in his blue plaid shirt and gray tweed hat, walking around the InnSuites during the Tucson Gem Show with his notebook ... Oh well, time flies...but some of us surely remember Jim's little, blue Meteorite Collector's Logbook (by Jim Kriegh Twink Monrad). Monday, 27 Aug 2001, I got this email frim Jim: Today I put in the mail a small package to you (in a video mailing box) which contains our Meteorite Collector's Logbook and the article Twink had copied for you. It has always been a great honor and a distinction to be considered a friend by Jim !!! Re: [meteorite-list] Glorieta Hunt - Diggers episode Tonight NGC
I think the worst part of the entire sorry story is that the people doing the treasure hunting are disrespectful and careless. They are clandestinely digging holes on historic sites, then leaving them out in the open for anyone to see, as if to rub people's noses in the fact that they were there. None of the people I know would (hopefully) leave this type of mess, or for that matter, go pot hunting at Mesa Verde or take a metal detector to the fields of Gettysburg to look for Minie balls. Sadly, the science of archaeology and the desire for wealth has always attracted some asshats through the centuries. Best! They will air anything these days. Now there is a new series that premieres September 10th all about toilets called King of Thrones Like Mike Farmer said, they are really dumbing down TV these days. I think it is time to disconnect my satellite dish. I am forced to watch TV during my recovery and it is not helping. Only a few more weeks and maybe then my doctor will green-light me to get out of the house and into the field while there are still a few places left to search. Going nuts in the meantime. Right now, it's a manual process. We don't have an automated way of tracking images with a submission. But if you send me images after a meteorite is announced, I'll try to post them fairly quickly. I do reserve the right to be selective about what I choose to post in the database. Jeff On 9/1/2013 8:42 PM, Jim Wooddell wrote: Hi Jeff! Can you please explain that? The reason I ask is that it seems like pulling teeth to get a picture in the bulletin. So, they just go into the un-reliable picture location.
