[meteorite-list] Foum el Hisn Meteorite - Tighert (provisional)

2014-08-10 Thread Ruben Garcia via Meteorite-list
Hi all,

As the first American dealer to offer Foum el Hisn (possibly will be
named Tighert)
I can tell you if you haven't already added one of these specimens to
you collection you should do it soon,

Historically speaking, rare falls like this with such a low TKW
(around 5-8 kilos) will only rise in value. Can you think of another
eucrite fall that can be purchased at these prices? Plus - this
meteorite has some of the best glossy crust I've ever seen.

Already the prices are so high in Morocco - even for fragments - I
can't purchase more.

I have only a couple small slices and a few fragments left.
http://www.mrmeteorite.com/neweucritefall.htm

I do have one on eBay ending soon that I started at $1.99 per gram

[meteorite-list] Looking for Tenham

2014-08-10 Thread Galactic Stone Ironworks via Meteorite-list
Hi List,

I am looking for some Tenham. Whole, slice, or fragment, it doesn't
really matter. Preferably something at least several grams - but
nothing big like the baseball Eric Twelker has available on his site.
If you have some available, please contact me off-list at
meteoritem...@gmail.com.

Best regards,

MikeG

[meteorite-list] DENVER SHOW - Ad and Announcement

2014-08-10 Thread Anne Black via Meteorite-list
Hello everybody,

Time flies! one month from right now the Denver Show will be in full
swing.
That's right, the Denver Show is growing, it is now a full week, from
September 7 to 14 in the Ramada (ex. Holiday Inn) and let's face it
that is the core of the Denver Show, this is where you will find
Blaine, Hans, Serge, Dima, and everybody else. Go to
http://mzexpos.com/colorado_fall.html for details.

And me? I have a house right here in Denver, so that is where you will
find me and all my meteorites, and you can look at them in peace and
quiet with a cup of coffee or a glass of wine. Just email me to make an
appointment.

Also, as always, the Comets are hosting a Get-Together for the
Meteorite Community, it is the social event of the Show. It will be on
Friday September 12, from about 5pm until. late. There will be
wine, a keg of beer, and lots of food, so do plan to attend. And there
will be an auction, since the Comets do need to raise some to pay
for all that free food and booze. Also this year, the Comets are trying
to raise a bit more to finance the donation of a meteorite to our
favorite museum, the Geology Museum of the School of Mines in Golden (
http://www.mines.edu/Geology_Museum ). All your help and participation
will be much appreciated. And we are not shy, we do accept donations.
For details, timing, location, .. and if you know what you want to
place in the Auction, please do email me as soon as possible so I can
do some advertising.

Thank you and see you all very soon.

PS: if you are on Facebook or Twitter, please forward this post to the
rest of the world. Thank you.

[meteorite-list] Lunar Impact

2014-08-10 Thread John Lutzon via Meteorite-list
Hello Everyone,

As some of you may know, i've recently suffered from some minor
dain bramage and major physical damage--but I still remain to ask
my often unimportant questions...
However, in this case, I pose some questions that were asked to
me to which I had no answers. Thus, I figured to ask the knowledgable
one's--You folks

1. Is there any evidence/photo's of meteorite impacts to the lunar
landing crafts that were left on the surface after our brief visits ?
Also, are ground based telescopes capable of seeing these
   crafts ?

2. Can our lunar landing craft's be considered meteorites
(in the sense of the definition) ?

Many thanks, John

Re: [meteorite-list] Lunar Impact

2014-08-10 Thread Sterling K. Webb via Meteorite-list
John, List,

Here are photos showing the landers
and even footprint traces on the Moon:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-1218958/Probe-photos-Apollo-l
anding-sites-reveal-man-DID-walk-Moon.html

24 photos here:
http://www.space.com/12796-photos-apollo-moon-landing-sites-lro.html
Lots of walking tracks and even a
phone line are seen!

Suveyor 3 was visited by the crew of
Apollo 12:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surveyor_program
No holes are in evidence. Meteorite
impacts are not more frequent on the
Moon than they are on the Earth.

Here's a video:
http://www.space.com/10040-ep-3-survey-trip-surveyor-3.html

No ground-based telescope can see any
of the landers, not even the Hubble can.
The smallest possible thing Hubble can
see on the moon is about 328 feet across
or the length of a football field. While
an impressive feat of resolution, no Apollo
spacecraft comes anywhere near that size.
Every piece of man-made hardware is below
the space telescope's resolution limit.

No, no hardware is a meteorite. They are
all constructed by the Amazing Flying
Monkeys of Planet Three!
