[meteorite-list] high-end collectors high-end meteorites and rareness
Hello, All If I combined Michael Farmers and Greg Hupes writing up about high-end collectors and high-end meteorites, so I should come to the conclusion that dealers aiming know a days to collectors with big wallets. Regardless to the amount of money you can effort for collecting meteorites, for myself, the high-end collector is the one, who understand in deeper details what he is collecting. Means, before he can real enjoy it, he must crack his head by studying in a private or profesional way mineralogy, physics, (bio)chemistry and etc. . Otherwise, confrontated with the foolishness, he can only marveling with an open mouth, but the real enjoy comes be looking at a meteorite with the specialed (knowlege) view about what you are looking at. Collectors like David Weir for example buying the small samples, but they are the high-end collectors. Some companies or also some single rich peoples (or even the most) often have rudimentär interest in meteorites but supporting the interest of the nature of an dealer – that's a own class of high-ends. Last at least, something about lunar and martian meteorites. Meanwhile the amount of it rised up to huge amounts compare to some real rare space samples, for ex. the ungrouped cc's like NWA 5958 from Greg Hupe. A sample like this, unique by it's O-isotopes compared to the rest of all meteorites, provide an absolutely less amount of material compared for ex. to a NWA 5000, but comes in price much more efordable. Martians and Lunaites describe more a less a single parent body history/evolution but a CM2 like a Murchison, a Tagish Lake or CI spans with it's information through the rise of the solarsystem and in some way also beyond. Some of such CC's you find in between the 393 CC's of the MetBull 101 to 103. My regards, Stephan Kambach PS. my special thanks to David Weir supporting all the real collectores for his well done work and also to the scientists, who let us, they one who is opend enough for it, to understand the value of the meteorites __ Visit our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/meteoritecentral and the Archives at http://www.meteorite-list-archives.com Meteorite-list mailing list Meteorite-list@meteoritecentral.com https://pairlist3.pair.net/mailman/listinfo/meteorite-list

An example: If I would make a trade with a museum to obtain a piece from the former Chladni collection, then the value for the meteorite gain by its added historic meaning. Hello All, I am offering a full slice of Maralinga (CK4-AN). It was sold in July 1995 by David New. The slice has a weight of 38,2 gram and shows as a specialty a superb round inclusion (chondrule or CAI) of approx. 8mm in Diameter. The literature describes a maximum of 5 mm for Maralinga [MAPS 27, 87-91 (1992)] . Diameters in the diagonals are with 5,9 and 8,8 cm; the disk has an absolutely accurate symmetrical cut. If you should be interested in a purchase, you can contact me off list. On request I dispatch photographs. The price is 3450 US $ . [meteorite-list] inclusions, brecciations, lithologies
Hello Members of the list As I didn't want to build up a webside, so three days ago I decided to open up a photoalbum for meteorites. The intention was actually to show some inclusions, lithologies, brecciations , I think you might not have seen before. Thats the beginning: for ex. the ALSP1 Allende , a single translucent red relict chromium-spinel crystal, the biggest ever found in a meteorite; a 8 mm sized chondrule in a CR2, - a giant chondrule in a full slice of Maralinga.- it's bigger as the literature describe; three lithologies in one slice of a lunaite, a main mass of a diogenite (Dho 778) with a fantastic brecciation; a bundle of aquamarine-blue hibonites in NWA 1465 and in the same a dark inclusion with an total other O-Isotopie as the host; a huge troilite in Ensisheim. There is a small description to the albums, because of less space due the provider. I added also further exemplares of my collection, but still yet not much described. It could be possible that you can not see the small picture from where you can click/open up to the size of 20x30 and also further more to a orginal size, because of a firewall that blocking popups or banners. Re: [meteorite-list] to Dr. Svend Buhl / inclusions, brecciations, lithologies
Dear Svend It's true, using a scale would give a better understanding for an object if somone see it first time only by a picture. Of course I did see my meteorites in reality and so my brain have the possibility to compare. If there are chondrules you might have a rough idea about the complete size of a slice. The weights for all my meteorites you can see below the page where you enter in with the small pictures. Hope it helps. Next time, then, if the pictures wouldn't be made only for my private use I will over a scale. Thanks for you compliment, by time there will follow more photographs, regards Stephan p.s. there is a pdf existing for the NWA 1465; you will find a scale for the dark inclusion www.lpi.usra.edu/meetings/lpsc2003/pdf/1560.pdf on David Weir side you will find a picture from my Gujba with a scale; picture was made by Eric Twelker Am 12 Jan 2007 um 22:56 hat Dr. Svend Buhl geschrieben: These are brilliant photographies, among the best macros I have seen. Te-1 is desrcibed in the bulletin under Tafassasset. Regards from Germany, Stephan Kambach Extract from the Met.Bulletin 86 - Meteorit: Tafassasset /last part .A 3.61 kg stone, labeled Te-1, was found in 2000 March, probably on the same expedition noted above, and is reported by J. Otto (Frei) to have been found in the Tenere Desert at 20°45.8' N, 10°26.5' E. Classification (J. Otto and A. Ruh, Frei): a primitive achondrite; partly covered with black fusion crust; shows a recrystallization texture with abundant 120° triple junctions dominated by olivine (56 vol%, 100–700 µm, Fa28.7, 0.06 wt% CaO) and poikilitic orthopyroxene (23 vol%, up to 3 mm, Fs25.4Wo3.6) with exsolved clinopyroxene (Fs12.7Wo39.7); Fe-Ni metal is irregulary distributed (~10 vol%, up to 5 mm); poikilitic plagioclase occurs in interstices (6.5 vol%, An38.5Or3.7); troilite (~3.5 vol%, 0.01 wt% Ni); chromite (~1 vol%, Fe/(Fe + Mg) = 0.817, Cr/(Cr + Al) = 0.818). Oxygen isotopes (R. Clayton and T. Mayeda, UChi): d17O = –0.85‰, d18O = +1.70‰, different from other achondrites. Noble gases (L. Schultz, MPI): data compatible with those of brachinites; exposure age is ~45 Ma. Shock stage, S1/2; weathering grade, W0. Specimens: main mass with Christian Stehlin, Basel; type specimen, 30.2 g and thin section, Frei. __ Meteorite-list mailing list Meteorite-list@meteoritecentral.com http://six.pairlist.net/mailman/listinfo/meteorite-list
