Another chapter of this story... A well-known Chinese amateur meteorite enthusiast ('Rex' / 雷克斯) believes he has found a carbonaceous chondrite (if I got the machine-translated text correctly) http://translate.google.de/translate?sl=zh-CNtl=enjs=nprev=_thl=deie=UTF-8u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.syunshi.cn%2FforumDetail.asp%3FtApno%3D5124%26tR3no%3D13%26tR2no%3D1%26tR1no%3D4 Chinese original: http://www.syunshi.cn/forumDetail.asp?tApno=5124tR3no=13tR2no=1tR1no=4 Von: drtanuki drtan...@yahoo.com An: Peter Davidson p.david...@nms.ac.uk, meteorite-list meteorite-list@meteoritecentral.com Betreff: Re: [meteorite-list] XinJiang Meteorite Crater Video Now Available- Real? Datum: Fri, 02 Aug 2013 14:41:14 +0200 Dr. Davidson, Thank you for your kind reply to the list concerning this event. My personal take is that the photo of the meteorite is real although it is unknown whether it is related to this reported event or not;. or perhaps something in the trash dump exploded? The crater photo reminds me of the Latvia faked crater although this may be that of an explosive device since the military were photographed with the crater and the crater appears to be not staged.. Another unfriendly feeling is the comment in the news reports about the fall of the regime in China related to meteorite falls. This in the Chinese context of reporting smells like a faked story. Nothing at all looks real about it. To make an2 meter crater it would need to be huge. No sign of anything, no fireball reports or sonic boom reports. Peter and Listers I would have to agree on that with you, fake as day. The dirt has to much dust and the last time I check, meteorites falls don't create trash. Or maybe its a trashy meteorite lol. Reminds me of a village dump with all the trash laying around it. could be something buried just blew up. Wasn't there a recent report of extremely high temperatures in that area causing many deaths?
