2023-01-25 Thread KD Meteorites via Meteorite-list
Hello everyone!

We are set up in our usual spot at the Pueblo Gem Show located at 777 West
Cushing Street, Room 126. Ramada by Wyndham :-)

We have some very collectible meteorites- a full slice and an end cut of
Portales Valley; a full slice of Estherville; a very nice Georgia Tektite; some
beautiful Buzzard Coulee and a large slice of Lake Murray!

Come on down and check them out - these don’t come around very often!

Cheers,
Dana

Re: [meteorite-list] Tucson Show 2017 Precautions and Advisories

2018-01-13 Thread Adam Hupe via Meteorite-list

Scary stuff,

Thank you for the heads up on the restaurants in Tucson that failed
health department guidelines. I have eaten at three or four of the
listed places in the past. I thought the stomach gurgles were from the
infamous Tucson Crude (flu) that goes around the show almost every year.
I remember my wife complaining to a waiter about the refried beans
being cold at an IMCA dinner at La Fuentes and he stuck his finger in
them and agreed. The waiter returned 20 minutes later with a second
serving of even colder beans.

The bed bug warning is definitely in order. My wife only agreed to
attend the show this year if we holed up in a hermetically sealed
Airstream travel trailer since she will not stay in a hotel in Tucson
ever again. We were attacked by these blood sucking vampires a few
years ago at a gem and mineral show which proved to be very costly. We
disposed of our luggage and clothes afterwards not wanting to bring
these disgusting bugs home with us.

Now, we always inspect hotel rooms for signs of bed bugs before
unloading our luggage. My wife made the mistake of closing the curtains,
turning off the lights and shinning a black light around the room the
last time we were in Tucson. Almost every surface exhibited fluorescence
caused by excitation of atoms in bodily fluids left behind from previous
guests. It looked somewhat like a murder scene you would see on a crime
show. We requested another room, were unable to sleep well and wished
we could forget what we saw.

Bed bugs are at epidemic levels in Tucson which ranks number 14 in the
entire nation for bed bug infestations!

Reference:
Aug 24, 2017 - Arizona Daily Star. Aug 24, 2017. Terminix is warning
Americans and those of us in Tucson and Phoenix that bed bugs are on the
rampage. Of the 20 top cities with a bed bug problem, Tucson ranks No.
14, which is not as bad as Phoenix at No. 7.

Warning; do not look at this graphic image if you do not want to see
some victims horribly bed bug bitten butt:

http://themeteoritesite.com/adam/BedBugBitesTucson.jpg

Be careful what you eat since they may be attracted to flatulence
especially when you are at your most vulnerable, degassing at night:

http://www.toptenz.net/top-10-reasons-why-bed-bugs-are-pure-evil.php

Woman killed by bed bug bites:
https://www.zappbug.com/killed-by-bed-bug-bites/

In all seriousness, be careful and use precautions so that you do not
pick up the flu, get eaten by bed bugs, get food poisoning or are
sickened by black mold.

Dear List Members,

I could not help but notice that with the Ensisheim show coming up that
there was not much fanfare about the Tucson show this year. I decided at
the last minute not to attend because of the lack of social activities on
the venue for meteorite people and reports that it was very, very slow. I
remember a time when there were five or six get togethers at the show and
you had to book a room nearly a year in advance.

Speaking of social activities, did anybody take pictures of the IMCA
dinner?, the sole meteorite specific activity left. I have not heard
anything about it.

business in my absence.
Be sure to check it out. Room 184 Hotel City Center. Moritz Karl and Comet shop
are all right by me so the backside of the hotel has becoming meteorite-row.

Yeah! Right!

But don't forget to go inside the courtyards, lots of big beasties to say hello
to.

AND...

My room to visit. Room 322, with lots of rare meteorites, and a gadzillion
Pallasites, all names, all sizes, all prices.

And a 5.2 kilos oriented-ventifact,

And a 5.2kilos LDG (arriving tomorrow)

And .. it would take me all day to list everything, so just come on over.

See you soon.

[meteorite-list] Tucson show internet access phonecard

2013-01-28 Thread 博方 李
To my meteorite friends who live in Tucson or familiar with the place: This is
my first time to attending the show, and I had made the plan to drive by myself
from the TUS international airport to the hotel I booked and drive to those
show places. In that condition, I need to purchase a monthly phonecard or a
pay-in-advance phonecard to provide an internet access for my Iphone, so that
I can use the google map thru the phone and get my way easily. Could anyone
tell me where is the nearest place to purchase the phonecard around the TUS

internet flow rate? Any replies or suggestions will be appreciated, many thanks!

[meteorite-list] Tucson Show

2013-01-18 Thread Adam Hupe
Dear List Members,

I tried everything possible to attend the Tucson Show but too many other
pressing concerns have come up.

The main concern is for my mother-in-law who we moved out here to Laughlin
three years ago.  She has been having medical issues and her primary doctor
says leaving her alone for a few days is out of the question right now.  We do
not want the state to place her in assisted living so we are doing our best to
work with her doctors, who in my opinion, have been over-prescribing
medications.  A new doctor cut back her medications and she seems to be doing
better but it is too soon to tell.  We almost lost her a few years ago due to
counterfeit Chinese medications that made it into American market.

My new wife , Zann von Hupe (married on 12-12-2012 at 12:00 noon) has had to
take care of her the last couple of weeks because I caught a nasty cold which
lasted way too long and her mother can no longer drive herself to doctors'
appointments.  My advice is to get a flu shot before going to Tucson if you
haven't already.  It takes two weeks to kick in and could save you a lot of
downtime and misery.

Luckily for me, they are having a Gem and Mineral Show right here in Laughlin,
Nevada.  I am glad to see a new show in town since the McCloud Jamboree which
was held outdoors went away.  This new show could be the start of something
fantastic since the economic advisers are talking about a massive 18-hotel wide
event with over 20,000 rooms available here in town.

I also booked two adjacent spots at the Remember When Antique Show if any of
you are in town from February 22 to the 24th.  I will have many artifacts, tons
of antiques and maybe some meteorites on display.

Re: [meteorite-list] Tucson Show

2013-01-18 Thread Ed Deckert

Hi Adam,

You are a good man. I take care of an elderly parent at home, and it is
wonderful to hear that you too have the love and concern to want to take
care of family. Too often, parents are shoved off to live the rest of their
lives in an assisted living facility because nobody wants them. They cared
for us when we were children, but somehow, that does not always come full
circle when they grow elderly.

Yes, there are instances where assisted living is the only good option, but
like you, I wish to avoid that until it becomes absolutely necessary.

I sincerely hope that your mother-in-law's health continues to improve.

Warm Regards,
Ed Deckert

Subject: [meteorite-list] Tucson Show

Dear List Members,

I tried everything possible to attend the Tucson Show but too many other
pressing concerns have come up.

The main concern is for my mother-in-law who we moved out here to Laughlin
three years ago. She has been having medical issues and her primary doctor
says leaving her alone for a few days is out of the question right now. We
do not want the state to place her in assisted living so we are doing our
best to work with her doctors, who in my opinion, have been over-prescribing
medications. A new doctor cut back her medications and she seems to be doing
better but it is too soon to tell. We almost lost her a few years ago due to
counterfeit Chinese medications that made it into American market.

My new wife , Zann von Hupe (married on 12-12-2012 at 12:00 noon) has had to
take care of her the last couple of weeks because I caught a nasty cold
which lasted way too long and her mother can no longer drive herself to
doctors' appointments. My advice is to get a flu shot before going to Tucson
if you haven't already. It takes two weeks to kick in and could save you a
lot of downtime and misery.

Luckily for me, they are having a Gem and Mineral Show right here in
Laughlin, Nevada. I am glad to see a new show in town since the McCloud
Jamboree which was held outdoors went away. This new show could be the start
of something fantastic since the economic advisers are talking about a
massive 18-hotel wide event with over 20,000 rooms available here in town.

Gem and Mineral Show 1-18-2013 to 1-27-2013:
http://www.visitlaughlin.com/events/detail/22261/

Over 20,000 rooms spread over 18 casino/resorts in Laughlin:
http://www.visitlaughlin.com/hotels/hotels-resorts/

I also booked two adjacent spots at the Remember When Antique Show if any of
you are in town from February 22 to the 24th. I will have many artifacts,
tons of antiques and maybe some meteorites on display.

The Remember When Antique Show:

Images:
http://www.facebook.com/pages/Remember-When-antique-show/197462853585?sk=photos_stream

I wish everybody a successful and enjoyable Tucson Show. I regret not being
able to join in the festivities but life has a way of setting priorities.

[meteorite-list] Tucson Show Flu

2013-01-18 Thread Greg Hupé

Hello Everyone,

After hearing about the severe flu this season and being one of the lucky
ones who has not gotten it yet, I will have a pocket container of Hand
Sanitizer on me at all times. I am no germaphobe, but simply washing your
hands after every handshake 'may' help to avoid the flu or spread it if you
have it. I would encourage every dealer to have a LARGE container in their
rooms that you and your guests can use FREQUENTLY!

Hope everyone has a great weekend! :)

Best Regards,
Greg

2013-01-18 Thread Adam Hupe

I heard the Brown Bottle Flu is epidemic this year, especially in
Tucson.

In all seriousness, I hope everybody avoids the real flu as it
is no fun and there will be people from all over the world in
attendance.

Take Care,

[meteorite-list] Tucson Show Page Updates Smart Phone Tip

2013-01-14 Thread Paul Harris

Dear List,

Sorry... I should know better than to never say never... I was going to
try to stay away but I've resigned to the fact that it's not going to
happen... Once I start a project I can't just leave it half-finished, I
have to try to make it better better. It's an ana_ part of my
personality that I'm sure drives Jim nuts and he could fill another
whole book with examples...

Since meteorite.com is now mobile friendly please use your phone to
browse to http://www.meteorite.com/tucson/ and bookmark the page. I've
added a menu which allows you to switch between Vendor, Visitors, and
Show Events. You don't have to try to print the pages anymore and you
will always have the most current information. For listings that have a
phone number you can just tap the number and it dials the phone (at
least on the iPhone).

2012-01-22 Thread Don Edwards
Erich Haiderer asked me to forward this - he's having trouble posting.

Tucson Riverpark Inn meteorite show - As many were asking:

As usual Erich Haiderer has one of the largest moldavite and meteorite
selection in Tucson. Be prepared for surprises for exciting martian,
historical, lunar, irons and pallasitic offers as well as top moldavites: He
will show surprising cosmic* matters this time in his Room 117 and patio of
the Riverpark Inn (formerly Pueblo Inn) from 1/27th till the limited supply
lasts.

I-10 (Intertstate-10): exit: Congress
This year there will be extended parking lots at the Riverpark Inn Hotel for a
low parking fee - such everybody should have comfortable access.

Welcome to all.

[meteorite-list] Tucson show - Meteorite give aways ?AD?

2011-01-20 Thread Mike Miller
First of all let me say we will be sharing a room this year at the
Tucson show with Casey and Laurie Conway (A Piece of the Past) We will
be in the Ramada Limited From Jan 27th until most likely Feb 12th room
131. That is in the front of the building and Blaine Reed is at the
back of the Building so when you stop in to say hello to Blaine come
on around the front and say hi. We specialize in Etching iron
meteorites so I have been shining up a few special pieces you might
enjoy seeing. We have lots of different things that might interest you
as well so stop in and take a look. Just a few highlights Morasko
large and small individuals, Large and small Portales Valley
individuals plus some killer full slices! Large and small slices of
Muonionalusta, Nantan, Toluca, Brenham siderite, oh yea I did say just
the high lights..and much more.

Now for the give aways The weekend of Jan 29th and 30th just stop by
the room any time Saturday or anytime before 5PM Sunday and tell us
you want in on the drawing and we will write your name and number on a
small piece of paper and toss it into the hat. At 5 pm Sunday evening
we will have someone reach into the hat and pull out a name. They will
recive a 278.4 gram etched Campo shape, valued at well over $150. You
can see a picture here
http://www.meteoritefinder.com/pages/tucson-page.htm I promise it
looks way better than the picture.

Now for the folks coming in for the auction we will be having a give
away on Feb 6th at 5PM. Same as the giveaway described above except it
will be a fresh hat and a different meteorite. This time the meteorite
to be given away will be a 39.4 gram end cut of NWA1955 valued at well
over $200. You can see a picture of it here as well
http://www.meteoritefinder.com/pages/tucson-page.htm
Please only entry per person

Look forward to seeing all of you at the Tucson gem and meteorite show.

[meteorite-list] Tucson Show GPS POI file - Input requested

2010-02-26 Thread Richard Kowalski
For those of you how downloaded and used the POI file I created to aid people
getting around to the various shows using their GPS,

http://www.poi-factory.com/node/24678

I found a couple of things I didn't like when I was using it and plan to make
changes for next year's shows, but if you used it too, I'd like to hear from
you.

I would appreciate any feedback you might offer to make the file more useful
and user friendly for 2011.

Thanks

 Hi all,
I finally got back from my Great Tucson Show
Adventure. Will spare you the gory details of
 24hr breakdown, etc.
I WILL tell you that if you live in Tucson or
EVER have any automotive problems near Tucson,
You DEFINITELY want to get your repairs done at:
 Precision Auto Transmission, 4729 E. 22nd, Tucson,AZ
 PH: 520.747.7287
Ask for Pat and tell him I sent you - honest, very skilled
And unbelievably modest in pricing. So very rare a
Combination in the automotive repair biz.
Anyway, all absentee bidders have now been notified
And the results of the Auction will be posted by Monday
At the latest (there will be a link from the on line catalog
Where the PRINT link is now).
Glad Chicago Steve got to see a REAL auctioneer.
Other than the breakdown, this was a really sweet
Show made particularly meaningful to me and Angel
As my closest family member, my nephew, John and his 10
Year old son, Jack made it out and we got to spend some super
Quality time with our Great Nephew who calls me,
Gruncle Mike. I am most grateful to Geoff Notkin and
All the other dealers who, I am told, were particularly
 Nice to him.
I am also pleased to say I made a new friend (several,
Really, but re this one..), Russ Finney, who has made a
TERRIFIC overview of the Tucson Show in a photo array
Of like 6 pages with commentary. Russ has excellent web
Page skills and it reads like a photographic journal of the

Hi Julie and all,
Yes, The Inn Suites (now Hotel Tucson City Center?)
Is the highest, by far, concentration of meteorite dealers.
However, the TIME you come should include the following:

The IMCA dinner (if you are an IMCA member, though I think
all meteorite enthusiasts are welcome) Wed, Feb 4
The Birthday Bash - Fri, Feb 5 this year
(big event of all meteorite people celebrating the birthdays
Of The Great Geoff Notkin and the REAL Steve Arnold)
The Tucson Meteorite Auction Sat, Feb 6 this year
(attended by most meteorite enthusiasts,
where you can bid on over 100 lots of meteorite offerings).

Best wishes, Michael

As you can see they both run the full two weeks.

You can spend a few days wandering both locations. The best days to go are the

show, but there is so many neat things to see and buy, anytime is good!

Hello Michael and List,

I am very sorry to disagree with you Michael but the IMCA dinner is for
IMCA members and their spouse/significant other only for one very simple
reason: Space.

I would be absolutely delighted to see every member of this List there, but
I am sure the management of La Fuente would not be happy. So if you are a
Member of the IMCA and would like to come, please contact Maria Haas
(_dragons...@msn.com_ (mailto:dragons...@msn.com) ) as soon as possible, she is
the
one counting heads and making sure that La Fuente will have enough space for
all of us.

If you are not a member, I am sure I will see you at the Birthday party on
Friday evening, and hopefully in my room in the Innsuites (now Hotel Tucson
City Center, room 230). And if you are interested in becoming a member, just
tell me or Maria.

And another thing Michael: the IMCA dinner is on Thursday, Feb. 4.

[meteorite-list] Tucson Show GPS Poi File [WAS: Tucson Meteorite Auction Catalog now up - call for entries]

2009-10-26 Thread Richard Kowalski
Micheal's post about the meteorite auction apparently jogged a few memories,
and I got some private emails about my POI file.

For those using GPS units in their cars to navigate around Tucson during the
shows come February, I have created a file that can be loaded into your unit
and get turn by turn directions to the various locations.

Included in this file is the location of the Meteorite Auction.

The file can be found on the excellent website POI Factory here:

http://www.poi-factory.com/node/24678

What this file is:

A file that has the locations, names and addresses and in some cases contact
phone numbers for the 42 Tucson shows of 2010.

It is intended to be loaded into GPS navigation units to provide turn-by-turn
directions to whatever show you would like to attend.

While it is supposed to be loaded into a GPS unit, it can also be opened in
Google Earth.

What it is not:

It is not a file that is intended to be opened with any other programs, though
if you want to read through the mark up language, you can open it in any text
editor and figure out names, addresses, etc. pretty easily.

It is not intended to printed and be used as a aid to navigate around Tucson
using paper maps.

It is not intended to be a shortcut to using a websites like Google maps to
input addresses and obtain directions.

It is not intended to be a replacement for the multitude of show guides that
are available for free just about everywhere around town.

See you all in Tucson come February and drive safe.

[meteorite-list] Tucson Show trivia FYI

I just returned from a drive to downtown Tucson, and I noted that the
former Innsuites on Granada, where many of the meteorite dealers have sales
rooms, and the ballroom contains the big fossil show, is now called:

Hotel Tucson City Center (in huge letters on sign)

and

Innsuites Boutique is in smaller letters at bottom of sign

I go downtown frequently, and this was a surprise to me today.

Thanks Twink.

I had noticed this a week or two ago but I have not changed the entry for the
Arizona Mineral Fossil Show (A) (The actual name of the show there).

I think for the most part people know it as the Innsuites, and my guess is
the smaller name now on the sign won't change any time soon so I'll add that in
the next update of my poi file.

[meteorite-list] Tucson Show, featured on The Desert Speaks a repeat tonight from 2006, on one of my local PBS stations with Bob Haag

2009-10-09 Thread Brian Cox
I Just watched the Desert Speaks on PBS, it was a show from 2006, with the
host David Yetman and they were in Tucson. They did different sections of
the 30 minute show. They showed meteorites and were at the home of Bob
Haag, and David said he was the most well known person in the meteorite
collecting world, The King of Meteorites I do believe they called him. He
was showing the host how to use his metal detector to hunt for meteorites
and the different kinds of meteorites, some from Argentina, Kansas, Russia
and other countries around the world. He showed the beautiful peridot in
pallasite meteorites and showed how to cut and polish a meteorite. Then they
were walking around the Tucson show looking at fossils and then went to
Wyoming to hunt for fossils and then showed petrified wood and then cut away
to travel near the Petrified Forest and the land of the owners of a large
petrified wood shop where they were using a back hoe to dig out petrified
wood and polish it and make it into bookends and table tops. It was a great
show.

Bob Haag ended the show with the host David as they were walking with the
metal detector as the credits rolled. Look for this 2006 show on your local
PBS stations. It was a fitting show to be on tonight with all of the talk
about the Tucson Show. One thing we have to remember about meteorites is
that any irons would surely start to rust if not treated in a humid climate
or near the ocean. Tucson and anyplace in the desert that is dry is the
perfect place for meteorites. They could easily move the fossils, petrified
wood, minerals and gems to about any location anywhere in the world, but we
also have to remember that flying to Hawaii or anyplace that you can't load
up your RV, truck, camper or car is going to be very, very expensive since
you can't bring large stones as carry on luggage, since they think they may
be used as weapons and shipping costs could get expensive from some of the
areas that are being mentioned.

[meteorite-list] Tucson Show

Just read that Tucson has raised their Room surcharge,
bed tax and sales tax. $2.00 surcharge, 6% bed tax and
8.1% sales tax... that makes them # 1 in the West for
Hotel and Motel stays! Tax wise anyway. In any case, I'll
be there. You just don't want to miss the stories, b-day
party and the auction... Great fun where-ever!

[meteorite-list] Tucson show - RV Questions

2009-08-29 Thread Pat Brown

Hello to the List,

This year I plan to drive to the Tucson show in a van that will be converted to
a meteorite hunting RV. It will be a 1 ton or Dodge Sprinter body, so it is not
that big, no slide-outs etc.

I have a few questions, would you mind sharing some of your Tucson info? (off
list is fine)

* It looks like it is not strictly legal to sleep in your car in Arizona (anti
vagrancy law?). Are the 'don't sleep in your car laws' enforced if you keep a
low profile and are respectful of the area?

* Can one park the RV in one of the gravel parking lots like the big one in
front of the Park Suites hotel and stay overnight or for several days? Have you
heard of anyone being told that they can't occupy an RV overnight there?

* If an RV park is the lowest hassle option, can you recommend one close to the
show hotels?

Any other tips?

Thanks,
 Pat

Re: [meteorite-list] Tucson show - RV Questions

2009-08-29 Thread Galactic Stone Ironworks
Hi Pat,

Good questions. I'm interested to hear what kind of answers you get
from the show vets.

I am converting a short school bus into a boondocking-RV (meteorite
hunting also - The Bolide Bus) and plan to attend in the show in the
RV as well - to save on hotel bills. But, I don't know if I will be
attending this year. I had planned on it, but as the time is nearing,
I just don't know if the RV will be ready. It still has a lot of
interior conversion work to be done before it's comfortable enough to
travel in.

Best regards,

MikeG

And the weekend before the close of the show (when dealers start
To leave on Fri, Sat or Sun).

Re: [meteorite-list] Tucson Show

2009-08-28 Thread Adam Hupe
I don't know what the temperatures have been running in Tucson but if they are
anywhere near as hot as it is here in Laughlin, then you could definitely fry
eggs on the pavement.

It gets so hot here that not a single temperature gauge sign can be seen
anywhere in town because it is bad for the tourism/casino businesses. The
weather station must be buried below ground because the weather channel will
report temperatures 10 degrees cooler than Bullhead City, Arizona which is in
the same valley, so close that I could throw a rock and hit it from the
Laughlin, Nevada side of the Colorado river. The water right off of the cold
side of the tap is hot enough to create steam when taking a shower. Our
air-conditioner (life support unit) struggles day and night to keep the inside
house temp at 80 degrees.

I went past a sign yesterday in Bullhead City that said it was 127 degrees! It
was so hot that I had to wear gloves to touch the black door handle and
steering wheel on my truck. I used to think those windshield reflector things
were geeky but now realize they serve a genuine purpose. This is my first
summer here in the Mojave desert so it takes getting some used to.

I hope it cools down to below 100 degrees so that I can do some meteorite
hunting soon, maybe in a month or two. I am ready to rock!

Best Regards from extremely hot, yet very friendly Laughlin, Nevada,

Adam

2008-12-31 Thread Michael L Blood
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
The Tucson Meteorite Auction on-line catalog is now complete? It has
78 lots offered. For the first time, all of the original lots are NO MINIMUM
BID. That means wide open bidding for everyone - ANY bid could win.
See on-line auction catalog at:
--
http://michaelbloodmeteorites.com/AuctionTucson09.html
--
People need to email in their absentee bids NOW. If you do not get a
Confirmation within 24hrs, something went wrong - please email me again.
Absentee bids will give you an excellent opportunity to buy as
though you were at the auction, even from Europe. You offer your highest bid
And are automatically bid up only with the live bidding, so, you could get
it well below your maximum.
There are still plenty of spaces for more entries, especially for
$3K and up items, which are lacking so far, even though we have some really
choice mid-range items.
Remember we will be in the old location where the 4 auctions before
The last location (in 2008) were held.
Email in your absentee bids and any remaining entries.
Best wishes to all, Michael
PS: I'm starting to get TUCSON FEVER!

Re: [meteorite-list] Tucson Show Schedule

2008-11-01 Thread al mitterling

Hi Michael and all,

Let me add to your post if I may. First the Tucson Show is the Tucson Gem
and Mineral Show. It starts January 24th and lasts until February 15th. It
is composed of many shows and the dealers who are there, often are required
to set up and stay for a full three weeks by the show organizers. Some shows
are wholesale only and you need to have a resale number to acquire items. I
think all the meteorite dealers don't require this so you can make purchases
without worry.

During this time many meteorite dealers set up in one form or another. Some
are with the shows that are going on, some walk around and make sales from
their transportation or out of bags they wheel around to avoid paying
expensive show and motel fees. You can call some on cell phones and make
arrangements to see what they have to offer and using the Meteorite Exchange
Show Guide they will be prosting is a good way to go.

I agree that if you want to spend a whole week with the most meteorite
dealers present you are best off being there any seven days around and
including Feb 6 7. If you plan to attend this show you should have your
motel reservations made if you want to stay in a reasonable place. Best to
all!

Hi All,
Someone contacted me off list re the specific
schedule of the Tucson Gem Mineral Show. I
Wrote him back, then realized there may be a bunch
Of listees who would like the same info. Also, remember
That Meteorite Exchange will be prosting their famous
Show Guide closser to the event - that will tell you
Exactly WHERE each and every dealer will be.
For now, here is the schedule as far as the meteorite
Part of it goes:
--
BIRTHDAY BASH : Fri, Feb. 6 - usually about 8PM?

Dealers start trickling in on the weekend preceding the
7th and are mostly all there by Sunday - this year will be
Like Sunday, Feb 1 - most try to open by Sat (this year, Sat,
Jan 31) but some won't get unpacked until Monday (Feb 2)
Many meteorite dealers start packing up to leave by Wed .
So, as you can see, there is NOT a simple answer.
ALL meteorite dealers are there, set up and open. (This year, that is
Fri, Feb 6 Sat, Feb 7). The weekend before after consists
Of most, but all not there and in various stages of unloading or packing
To leave and many not really open some of those days. If you want to
Spend a whole week with the most meteorite dealers present you are
best off from any seven days around and including Feb 6 7.
I HOPE this answers your question. As I said, there is no clear
Cut start date and the end date IS Sunday, Feb 15 this year - but
Many dealers will have left prior to the official end date.
   Best wishes, Michael

[meteorite-list] Tucson show

2008-02-14 Thread Michael Farmer
Hi everyone,
We are still busy selling here at the Tucson show. I
am having some computer problems at home, and will try
to get it corrected this weekend. The show is slowing
down, so after 20 days, I need a couple to relax.
Please do not worry if you have not received a reply
to any email or questions, it is simply that I am
still working non-stop at the show, and really have
had no time to do email work.
I will try to get caught up next week.

Re: [meteorite-list] TUCSON SHOW Auction Bday Bash

2007-11-26 Thread Michael L Blood
Greetings all,
I have been in communication with Geoff Notkin up
Until a few days ago, but haven't been able to connect him the
Last few days. We were discussing how both the Auction
And the Birthday Bash are relocating this year AND how
The date of the Tucson Show would be unusually late this
Year.
This is how it works: The Retail Show is held this
Year on the weekend of Feb. 15th. The Auction and Birthday
Bash are always held the weekend PRIOR to the Retail
Show which always marks the END of the wholesale show.
The reason is, 2 weekends prior to the Retail Show is when
The wholesale dealers START SHOWING UP - with a few
Not there until as late as Tuesday - and a few not until Wed.
By the weekend prior to the Retail Show, EVERYONE
is there, set up and dealing.
The weekend OF the Retail Show marks the end, and
About half the meteorite dealers are leaving or gone by that
Saturday. (Each dealer varies a day or two as to when they
Are gone - and vary as to when they arrive by as much as
Several days) So, the weekend PRIOR to the Retail Show
Is the only weekend when everyone is there. This year that
Will be the weekend of Feb. 8.
The schedule will be:
Birthday Bash: Fri, Feb. 8
Tucson Auction: Sat, Feb. 9
Al Lang has told me he will NOT be holding his former auction. I
Have not been in contact with Darryl Pitt, but my understanding
Is he will not be having an auction this year. If he were, he always
Holds his auctions on Sunday the weekend prior to the Retail Show.
So, that is it. Geoff will be announcing the exact time and the
New location he and Steve Arnold will be holding the Birthday Bash.
I will be posting a catalog SOON with a map to the new location
(about the same distance from INN SUITES as before - and as easy
To find).
Geoff told me he had heard from several out of town visitors
That they had booked rooms for the weekend of Feb. 1. They are
Encouraged to change their reservations ASAP, as they would be very
Lonely, indeed, if they were to come that weekend. Many dealers
Will not have arrived, few will be set up and many will be scurrying
Here and there in preparation of setting up. So, not only would early
Arrivals miss many or most dealers, they would miss the big weekend
When everyone IS there.
Best wishes, Michael
