A special highlight: *Mobile** Communication, Economy and Society *Research
Line*.*

*

*Mobile Communication, Economy and Society*

The mobile communication networks are spreading throughout the world at a
rate unrivalled by any other communication technology in the past.
Communication is a basic aspect of human activity in every realm of life.
This is why, where the infrastructure is sufficient, this multi-regional
communication device is becoming, or has already become, a part of everyday
life, whether as an accessory to a landline or as a replacement.

The main objective of the research line is to develop scientific materials
which contribute toward expanding knowledge of the phenomenon from a
two-pronged perspective: sociological and economic. From a geographic point
of view, research focuses on developed countries, mainly Europe, and in
developing countries.

Currently, this research lines seeks to incorporate one student interested
in one of the next areas:

a) The study of the processes of acceptance, or rejection, of mobile
telephony among senior population in developed countries, mainly but not
exclusively Europe.

b) The study of the contribution of mobile communication to social and
economic development mainly in poor areas, mainly but no exclusively Latin
America.

Hello,

Regarding Latin America, OSILAC is doing a great job gathering comparable
data at individual and at a household level.
You should go to the section Statistics and and ICT indicators:

Hello all,

Julian asked me to resend this notice.

Rich L.

Dear all,

you may be interested to know of a new publication by my colleagues in
the COST298 network Jane Vincent and Leopoldina Fortunati. The book is
called „Electronic Emotion. The mediation of emotion via information
and communication technologies“. It was published in August 2009 in
the Peter Lang Oxford series Interdisciplinary Communication Studies
edited by Professor Colin B. Grant and is an edited volume of
especially written, peer reviewed articles that addresses the much
under-researched area of emotion and ICT.

This is the first of several volumes to be published. Future
publications in the newly found Peter Lang Berlin series
„Participation in the Broadband Society, edited by J. Gebhardt, L.
Fortunati and J.
Vincent will follow and will be announced in the coming weeks.
