2000-09-27 Thread LDierck

i am a person who loves generalizations... i love making them, and even
better, i love it when other people make them too... so i'll readily admit
(for the millionth time) that i am a hypocrite, just like everyone else. but
i do like the assumption that modest mouse listeners, and more specifically
those on the list, should be more intelligent than they have demonstrated.
first off, i would like to believe that i am a pretty intelligent person...
there aren't too many people on this list that i actually keep in contact
with, but i think that they would honestly say that i am a bright young
woman... however my posts are laden with swearing and duragatory
statements... because my emails read as such, does that actually make me a
person that knows nothing but how to swear and fast forward a good lesbian
porn flick to the good parts? i'd like to think not... there are times that
the content in the posts makes me want to start beating little children
because it sucks so bad... maybe it's the people writing it, maybe it's just
the topic, maybe it's both... but because people don't write something that
others think is profound and laden with meaning (both implicit and explicit),
that they are retards that jerk off in public... secondly, just because
someone likes a band, doesn't mean that what the band is or seems to
represent is what the person is like or stands for... i have witnessed the
drinking habits of the mouse however, i myself am someone who does not
drink... yet, i can interpret the music the way that i like, just like others
interpret the meanings of the individual songs themselves... i bet there are
about 3 people who are mouse listeners that are real cowboys and drink and go
to reservations, but we can all enjoy cowboy dan on some other level...
something tells me that issac brock, jeremy green, and eric judy don't talk
on the phone saying that they must make sure that their next grouping of
songs appeals to those that are intelligent, are famililar with alocohol and
desperation and indie as fuck... i believe that, like most artists, that they
hope their music (or other artlike product) appeals to everyone... i think
that everyone on this list will admit that it is 98% drivel, and i would say
that less than 25% of the people on the list are responsible for it... so
lets make a couple of assumptions from that... the stupid ones are the
bravest and they are the ones that will give their views more readily than
the others... or perhaps, this is as good as it gets... maybe the rest of the
list is a bunch of hicks that accidently signed up to this, but really meant
to sign on to a list where people traded beaver shots of their first
cousins... i am sure that there are people who listen to the mouse that are
total cock rock shitheads. it is wrong to assume that everyone on this list,
or everyone that listens to modest mouse at that, is so indie that they even
buy their underwear at thrift stores. the truth of the matter is i like to
swear, i like to shower, i like not drinking, i like buying nice new
underwear, i like mindless activities such as watching mtv and soap operas
(on occasion), i like finding new clothes that make my ass look good, i like
laughing at and making horrible jokes... perhaps issac or eric or jeremy
likes the same thnigs i do... because i would like to know that my bizarre
indie rock hero(es) go to the army navy store and tries on carhartts on one
leg at a time... and then slowly turns around to look and see just how
awesome his ass looks in those crisp new pantalones... don't break my hearts
you pretty ones!

everyone there knew they knew ALL the words to every song. So you can hear
them at times on the recording. It actually sounds pretty hilarious. Two
girls SCREAMING the words to "broke" in a distinct massachusetts accent. I
laughed my ass off.

first of all, i hope modest mouse never plays in providence again
(according
to isaac, it was the first time they'd ever been there), unless they preceed
it or follow it up with a boston show.

the shitheels were supposed to play providence once with the young pioneers,
a long long time ago, after a boston show, but they cancelled it and drove
straight to the worst city in the world. they claimed to have van troubles
but i'm of the opinion thats bullshit. i think they knew they wouldnt get too
many people to see them in providence on a tuesday or whichever weeknight it

and there isnt a venue in boston better than fort thunder, lupos or the met

that was primarily an art gallery or something like that. more bands should
skip boston in favor of providence until theres someplace better to play.

hey, you need to understand where i'm coming from; maine. i'm in fucking
maine. it's hard enough driving to boston for every concert i want to see,
so when the one concert i want to see more than any other is in providence,
i get a little frustrated. i like lupo's... i saw my favorite concert ever
there a few years ago, but coming out of a concert and then having a 3+ hour
drive ahead of you is a little depressing.

plus boston is a lot more fun to visit than providence.

as for more bands skipping boston in favor of providence; that won't and
shouldn't happen. the show at lupos didn't even sell out, while the one in
boston at the middle-east earlier this year sold out nearly a month before
the fact.

 Just an observation...
For those of you kids who dig Les Savy Fav - you really should check out
Hot Hot Heat, especially the song "Circus Maximus." They also have
keyboards that take some getting used to, but once you do, OOOHHH baby!
I have a bunch on Napster (I'm Mapledaisy), including their flip-side
singles with Red Light Sting, but I'm happiest with Circus Maximus.

 I also found a cool web site called Fairtunes.com. It's a "virtual
tip-jar" for artists. Therefore, if you download quite a few songs from a
band that you like and respect, but have no further motive for actually
purchasing any other their "printed" work, you can go to fairtunes.com and
enter your credit card (just hear me out here!) and they send monthly
checks to the artists. You can enter just $5. To check their
"legit-ness"
you can click "about," or see the article about them on ZDNet or The
Standard (just search fairtunes.com). The FAQs page on Fairtunes is good,
 too.
Artists have already been cashing checks.

Anyone seen Mountain Con or Pleaseeasaur live? Any reviews, please? I'm
going to see them tomorrow night.

[MMouse]: nothing in particular

2000-09-19 Thread Toni Rickman

I highly recommend anyone to read White Noise by Don DeLillo. Incredible
book. I don't know if it was suggested when all the book title swapping was
going on, but READ IT.

So, Promise Ring is opening for Bad Religion at Stubbs, and the damn tickets
are $24. Guess I won't be going to that.

Another thing, I'm really starting to worry about myself and my obsession
with Modest Mouse. I've dreamed about them the past three nights in a row.
Nothing really interesting, but they're there, nonetheless. In one, they
were coming to my house to hang out, and I was worried that they would think
I was a dork, b/c I have the green buffalo poster on my wall. What the
hell? I'm having to force myself to listen to other music. Something is
wrong with me.

[MMouse]: Les Savy Fav/Hot Hot Heat

2000-09-19 Thread Stace Dayment

To check their "legit-ness"
you can click "about," or see the article about them on ZDNet or The
Standard (just search fairtunes.com). The FAQs page on Fairtunes is good,
too.
Artists have already been cashing checks.

Anyone seen Mountain Con or Pleaseeasaur live? Any reviews, please? I'm
going to see them tomorrow night.

Re: [MMouse]: The Mouse Experience #1

2000-09-18 Thread m. o'malley

the columbus show was modest mouse experience #5 for me... even though it
was a good show, i was slightly disappointed. i think i've seen them on
better nights... and a few individuals in the columbus crowd get a big
thumbs down from me. the t-shirt twirler gets two thumbs down... as does
"heather", the girl who crowd surfed her way onstage, only to pull the plug
on isaac's guitar while being dragged offstage (we only knew her name
because her friends were very congratulatory when she weeded her way back to
the front of the stage... she should have been thrown out, forget the stage
diving kid).

i was pleased to hear talking shit about a pretty sunset and teeth like
god's shoeshine. those were personal highlights for myself.

i could not hear a word isaac was saying when he spoke... other than the
whole, "we'll stop playing if you kick him out," and something about
boycotting the newport.

Just got back from my first mouse show here in Columbus. Pretty cool. I
almost got in a fight with a sweaty fat kid because he took off his shirt
and twirled over his head and he whipped me and I said, "Put yer shirt back
on fatty." and then he pushed me saying, "Fatty can kick yer ass" and a
security guard who just happened to witness the whole thing got him into a
sleeper hold or something.

2000-09-17 Thread Dustin Summers

ok ive wanted to mention this for a while but it has always been out of
context and such, but now someone has supplied me with the context so im
gonna mention it, here we go:

why on earth are people bidding up wards of 40 bucks on the "ultra rare"
modest mouse tour poster that you can get at updirect.com for 7 bucks? and
then... there is the buffalo silkscreened poster "ultra rare" again that ive
seen going for nearly 25 bucks, that updirect sells.. or used to sell for a
dollar??? and... the night on the sun "ultra rare" vinyl is going for 25 or
so as well, but its still available at updirect anyway i know the answer
to the question but i just wanted to make point of saying this on the list
becuase im concerned that some of you guys are actually bidding on this
stuff not knowing you can still get it from up

so uhhh who wants to buy my yellow modest mouse buffalo shirt that doesnt
really fit right cause the neck is too small and it has some weird stains on
it that i cant for the life of me remember where they came from, but dude
its "ULTRA RARE" im asking 20 bucks, hey isacc sold this too me himself, 30
bucks, let the price war begin
