If it's any help, I had the index 17 error. It has to do with the activation app running. I'd suggest that you try it again, and also clean out (but maybe backup?) ~/Libraries/MonoTouch (it should have a couple of files called License* in there) I got it in Snow Leopard, so that bit isn't Lion specific. I wouldn't be too worried. Mono is in good company.
