2012-04-30 Thread Helmut Hamm
A couple of years ago I won a poster on eBay for my EXACT maximum bid of
$4,333.88, the underbid being $4,333.

I don't remember what the third bid was, but it was a major gap, maybe like
$1,200 or so.

won with a bid that was exactly the same as the underbidder, but my
bid came in 1 second before his bid so I win the tie..

[MOPO] 2001 POSTER AT CHRISTIE'S SOUTH KENSINGTON

2012-04-30 Thread Kirby McDaniel
The folks at Christies South Kensington have made a mistake regarding
the 2001 Starchild poster which is in their May 2nd auction this week.

As has been discussed on this forum before the StarChild poster with the
higher valuation is the one which is entirely undated and has no copyright
text along the bottom border. To the best of my knowledge whenever these
posters have surfaced they have shown no evidence of ever having been folded.

MovieArt has one of these poster with a chip out of the border area. Heritage
sold one in their last auction. In the 90s one of these sold at Sothebys for an
even higher price, around $5000, as I remember. In any event they are rare,
and it is easy to make the mistake that the very similar style overprinted with
date on the bottom is the same poster.

I have telephoned Christies about the mistake.

Kirby

It was *LENIN*, and that *WAS *an incredible poster! And that* FLAMING GUNS
*not only had incredible art, but also great color and it was PRISTINE as
a certain poster dealer used to say.

Both went to good homes, and will be much loved,

But maybe there is something else for you in the other three parts.

Quite right Kirby, they really should have spotted the 1970 copyright at
the bottom...
Didn't realize this sale was coming up. Haven't had the chance to look
through it all yet, but on a much lesser scale the Lady and Tramp quad is a
re-release too.
