[MOSAIC] Your help needed as Mosaic moves ahead

2010-12-11 Thread Keith Mack
Mosaic will be off emergency moderation by end of day on Monday. That said,
I have information that I would like ALL members to seriously consider.

As you know we live an email world dominated by spam. The result is that
many big providers like MSN, AOL, Comcast, etc. have email server software
relentlessly looking 24/7 for spammers sending out lots of messages.

The Mosaic group often falls into a suspicious sender category because:
1. Email providers' software sees a lot of messages from Mosaic.
2. Server software knows that Spammers send out lots of messages.
3. Therefore, Mosaic is sending spam and is blocked.

It's simply a numbers game and it is brutally efficient.

In the last week we've been blocked by Comcast, WaveCable, AOL, and Yahoo
along with a whole bunch of K-12 and university servers. This was not caused
by the actions of our list, but by other circumstances that rolled up on my
server provider. I know we are an innocent victim but server software
doesn't care. Basically, Mosaic lived on the same block as a spammer;
therefore we were branded as spammers.

Your help is really needed more than ever and here's what you can do...

Please remember every Mosaic message or reply is sent out to about 3000
people. A 10 message day for Mosaic means that about 30,000 messages flow
out to providers. This means that a busy day for us will mean over 50,000
messages sent out. Believe me, this gets noticed.

Please try to ensure that messages your send to Mosaic advance conversations
and provide all members with pertinent information and/or supporting
explanations. In other words, we want our messages to count for sharing
ideas, resources, and experiences.

Please trim your replies to include only the briefest quote of a previous
message. This means we want to see your 20 words with a few previous message
words. We do NOT want to see your 20 words that include 12 pages of other's
people words that have already been seen. Be green in your replies!

Please...Contact ONE person when you want to ask ONE person a question.
Contact ONE person when you want to ask ONE person for a resource. Contact
ONE person when you want to tell ONE person that you agree with him/her.

Please contact ME with any questions about your membership.

If you want to make sure you get Mosaic emails, I'd like to point you to
consider Gmail as we have yet to be blocked by this provider.

As always, you can read and search posts to Mosaic by going to the archives
at the link at the bottom of this message - no membership is required.

I really appreciate your time and efforts to help Mosaic survive and thrive
in the months and years ahead. There is great worth in this community's
wisdom and sharing.

Thanks,

Keith Mack

Re: [MOSAIC] book suggestion

2010-12-11 Thread Larissa Juliano
I would definitely recommend 'One' by Kathyrn (sp?) Otoshi. Also, the book '
Say something' .
These are both books we use for our anti-bullying programs K-8. Not only that,
the message is straight-forward, yet not preachy (at all). It's so special to
see my 8 graders
listening and responding to a picture read-aloud;

  12/10/10 11:35 PM
What grade are you teaching?? Hey Little Ant was the first book that
pooped into my mind.

Subject: [MOSAIC] book suggestion

I need a suggestion for a picture book that allows students to make an
ethical decision. I was thinking Crow and Hawk, but the plot is too
real. I have students who have lived through a similar situation.
I plan to read up to the point where the solution is reveled, and ask
students to vote on what they think should happen.
If you have another suggestion, please e-mail me off list. Thanks!

[MOSAIC] professional readings

2010-12-11 Thread Amy Tisinger
My principal is giving each teacher and assistant in our school a $40 budget
to purchase a professional book to read over our winter break. I'm a K-5
intervention teacher and RTI coordinator, so I'd like to get something in
the category of either intervention ideas or help with coaching teachers.
Any ideas? I have most of Allington's work already. Thanks in advance!
