Re: [Mpls] City website vs. St. Paul

2003-11-04 Thread Andy Driscoll
That¹s because St. Paul's elections have for some time been run by the
Ramsey County Elections Bureau. Go up on Ramsey County's site and you'll
find the info.

I don't disagree it was stupid, but it was a Coleman consolidation move that
confuses voters.

For all the complaints about the City of Minneapolis website, at least you
can find a section on Elections Voting right on the front page.

As compared to the St. Paul website, where there is nothing there. And
even though tomorrow is an election day for all the city offices, there is
nothing in the News on their front page about it.

And there's nothing about Voter Registration or Elections in the list of
city functions, and nothing about it on the page for the City Clerk.

And using their search function only finds parts of the city charter that
 tell how to hold elections.

If you look hard enough, eventually, under the title Maps and Documents,
you will find a Sample Ballot. (It's a massive pdf document, that takes a
long time to download. And they don't tell you that beforehand, so that
you don't know why nothing appears to be happening for some minutes when
 you click on it.)

Guess St. Paul officials really don't want too many people voting in their
 elections!

[Mpls] City Website

2001-05-21 Thread Eva Young

Then, the customer hits the city web site, connects to a secure server,
logs in to their acct., using their banks routing number, issues an
electronic payment from their checking acct. Done. Recurring payments
could even be established. The key here is OPTIONAL. If is is a
convenience to the customer, we might use it. If enough enough customers
use this method, it could pay for itself by reducing paper processing
and postage.

It would also be nice to have the option of paying parking tickets this way
also. Optional is key to any of this.

I'd also be interested in seeing the City Website, with regard to council
minutes and such be more searchable. Attendance records for City Council
Members should be available in aggregate form -- that is percentage of full
council meetings attended, and percentage of committee meetings in which
the council member was a committee member would also be useful. I think
having this type of information easily available on the web would also
encourage more accountability from our city council members.

It would also be nice to have the votes on different issues in some sort of
database -- similar to the way you can search on bills at the legislature
to find out how your legislator voted on specific items at the revisor of
statutes site.

I got an email back from Ann Freeman -- the mayor's communications
director, regarding my post on the baracades on 10th between lake and 31st
and Elliot between Lake and 31st -- and she is forwarding the concern to
Buck Humphrey. I thanked her for this and encouraged her to ask Humphrey
to post the answer to the whole list.
