How about the Hard Rock? McLaffurty should be accommodating.

I like this idea also, but can we have it where they allow smoking,
drinking, and lewd and luciferous activity? (for those who do not know,
Luciferous acts are those the devil makes you do) One of the bars downtown
will work. How about that one on Washington Avenue? Most List members need
a little spice in their lives, but everyone sitting around talking about how
God awful E-Block is does not sound like a fun atmosphere. Oh yes, include a
place with music and dancing, cause sometimes Granny likes to shake the

[Mpls] LIST GET TOGETHER REMINDER

2001-06-20 Thread Barbara Nelson

Hi All,
Sending out another reminder notice, we're just one week away from a
list get together -- rain or shine. I'm hoping for a good turnout in
this political season -- all your candidates -- here's your chance to
press the flesh and make your case to a crowd -- at:

PLACE:STEVENS SQUARE PARK

Stevens Square Park is located between Stevens and Second Avenue and
18th and 19th Streets in South Minneapolis near downtown. There is
on-street parking on all the streets surrounding the park.

DATE: WEDNESDAY, JUNE 27th

TIME:6:30 - 9:30 PM

POTLUCK: BRING A DISH TO PASS

Look for the balloons and a bunch of public policy wonks and you'll have

located the Minneapolis Issues List. I'll provide paper plates, platic
forks and a cooler with ice so you can also bring a few cans of Diet
Coke or whatever with you for a beverage.

We're in luck because that night at Steven's Square Park, there will be
background music for about an hour starting at 8:00pm (Baby Grant
Johnson, Blues,) and a movie starts at dusk (about 9:00pm, Fantasia
2000).

See you there!

At the risk of this getting too complicated, there have been a number of
suggestions that we move this to Steven Square Park because there will
be free music there that evening and we will get entertained for FREE.
A more festive atmosphere, maybe more public figures will show up and
explain more public policy to us too. Ya never know...

Also, there is a Twins Game that night. Groups get discounts for Twins
games, ya know... If there was enough interest, we might qualify if we
who show up all went, en masse. Since enough (in my judgement) members
have written me saying enough of Kenwood Park already, I'm moving it
to Stevens Square and asking you all -- should we meet early enough to
make an exit to the Twins Game?

 DATE:Wednesday, June 27th

 NEW PLACE: STEVEN SQUARE PARK

TIME: 6:30 --9:00 (depending on whether we
decide to go to the
Twins game)

Discussion, comments to the list. Thanks.

Re: [Mpls] LIST GET TOGETHER

2001-06-08 Thread Jhpalmerjp
Just as a few points of information and follow up on Annie's point (I'm bias
obviously), but the get together is suggested for 6:30 - 9:00. The movie
here starts at dusk which is usually around 9:00 or a little after, so it
would actually be an option for anyone who wanted to stay past the get
together rather than the point of it. The music starts around 8:00 but is
not overwhelming making conversation still possible. I appreciate the point
Annie makes about doing things besides just shooting the "s..." being a
distraction, but in my mind a little background music never hurts, and have
option to be entertained after the conclusion of the get together is very
appealing as well.

Re: [Mpls] LIST GET TOGETHER

2001-06-07 Thread Jhpalmerjp
If I might throw a suggestion into the mix for your consideration Barbara as
the originator of this event, and to the list members as well. Every
Wednesday in June and July we have our free Movies and Music Program in
Stevens Square Park. A local musician or band plays for about an hour
starting at 8:00pm (Baby Grant Johnson, Blues, on the 27th) and the movie
starts at dusk (about 9:00pm, Fantasia 2000 is the one for the 27th).

So while Stevens Square Park isn't as centrally located as Kenwood, we would
be getting free music and a movie in the bargain.

[Mpls] LIST GET TOGETHER

2001-06-06 Thread Barbara Nelson

Well, isn't it time again??? Hopefully, it stops raining sometime in
June. Isn't it April showers, May flowers? Then June should be safe.
So here's my suggestion. We meet in Kenwood Park again -- a rather
central location -- right in between North and South Minneapolis and a
Park that I know I can find.

It's potluck. You just show up and bring a dish to pass, I'll bring
balloons to mark the location, so look for a bunch of balloons and a
hapless group of non-tanned folks who look like the kind of whackos
you've been reading and voila! it's us.

Send me feedback on this date and if it's awful, we can change it.
Here's the particulars. Anybody interested??? Comments to the list.
