The desktop file MyPaint uses for KDE and GNOME desktops needs
translating into the various languages we support. I also thought the
old from scratch wording sounded a bit awkward and off-putting to
new users. I've asked around on IRC about some updated wording, and I
think we're good to go with
Name=MyPaint
Comment=Painting program for digital artists
GenericName=Raster Graphics Editor
as a replacement. The Comment is what's shown in tooltips for the
icon, and the GenericName is a name for the general kind of program
this is (which I've consulted Wikipedia about, at least☺). Currently
we have a few gathered translations courtesy of numarul7, popolon and
Deevad on IRC:
http://gitorious.org/mypaint/mypaint/blobs/master/desktop/mypaint.desktop
Would it be possible to gather some more from here on the mailing
list? Patches or just words are fine, but I'll need to know the
name/country/context for the bit in []s.
(SuSE and Ubuntu both have gettext-aware kdebases and glibs, but they
each use their own extensions to the desktop file specification. I
think that both of their build systems can incorporate translated
strings from a package's shipped .desktop file though, so I think the
right place for translations to go is right there in mypaint.desktop)
