Re: [Nagios-users] Hostgtroup question
Apologies. 3.something... I can include hostgroups in another hostgroup, I just cannot disinclude them with a !, or so it would seem. As a future feature request, I have two suggestions. First, is the disinclusion of hostgroups from another hostgroup. This is already done in service definitions, so the code already must exist. The other is the ability to have empty hostgroups without complaint, perhaps without warning. It allows for planning ahead and completion of concepts. Thanks, Dale Morris, Patrick wrote: On Tue, 14 Jul 2009, Mark Gius wrote: Morris, Patrick wrote: Hi Dale! On Tue, 14 Jul 2009, Dale J. It's not possible now -- members of hostgroups need to be hosts, and can't be other hostgroups. According to http://nagios.sourceforge.net/docs/3_0/objectdefinitions.html#hostgroup, you can have sub hostgroups. So in theory he should be able to specify a hostgroup that contains every host, subtracting another group. Well, I just learned something. That definitely isn't doable in Nagios 2.x (you didn't mention which version you were using, so I was going based on what was in front of me at the time). -- Dale J. Re: [Nagios-users] Hostgtroup question
bingo! That seems to be the way it works. I would have hoped that anything that could have hostgtroup_members would act the same way and use the same code. Perhaps an oversight easily handled? I *CAN* use a template and include it in service/serviceescalation definitions that does essentially the same thing, but I'd rather not have a superfluous link to a definition that really shouldn't be needed. Re: [Nagios-users] Hostgtroup question
Thanks for verifying. It seems both a logical and an easy thing to do, given it is done in service and serviceescalation definitions. Is this a sufficient place to bring this to light? I don't see any tests for regexp_matches so I'm about 80% confident this just doesn't work for hostgroup_members. My code reading-fu may be weak though. For instance, we have contact1 who is a member of contactgroup1. We have host1 who also has a contact group of contactgroup1. That association is working. However, we have service1 which runs on host1, host2, and host3, and has contact groups contactgroup1 and contactgroup2. Whenever host2, which is not associated with contact1 has a notification for this service, contact1 is receiving the notification. How do we limit notifications for service1 to only go to contact1 if the host having trouble is host1? Re: [Nagios-users] Nagios notifications
See my prior, in the service-notify-by-email (or whatever) use /bin/mail $HOSTNAME$ ... Or, write a script to send the mail and send the HOSTNAME macro to it and make it smart enough to know who to notify. Phillips, Dustin B wrote: Right. I understand that would fix our problem. So you're saying we'll need to create services that have the same check command but unique hosts and contactgroups? We have 40 services and 8 contact groups. Re: [Nagios-users] Nagios memory percentages
Looc at the /proc/meminfo file and the vmstat command. Divide memory parameter (free, used, whatever) by total memory, multiply by 100 and you have percent. Currently we are using the normal nrpe to connect to the systems and run scripts remotely, however we do not have one to monitor the memory. On the web there are a lot of references to the snmp commands but as all the systems are production and we might be having a couple of upgrades soon, I would like to rather keep it simple and only run one client on it for all Nagios connections. My question is this I can use the command free to get the amount of memory , used, free etc How can I write this into a script to display as percentages is there another command I can use or maybe an option that I do not know about? tx *** Disclaimer *** The information contained in this e-mail is confidential and legally privileged and is intended solely for the addressee and to others who have the authority to receive it. The output of the command is below. I included the objects.cache file. As I understand it, this is created at run time from what nagios reads from the config files and saves. Therefore, if I left something out, it should be more obvious here. If you need the actual files, I can tar and zip 'em, though.
