[nfc-l] Calls and Spectrograms on Facebook

2014-09-30 Thread Rob Fergus
Perhaps a good feature of the NFC Facebook group is that we can post sound
clips and spectrograms together for analysis and comment there. I’ve uploaded
a .wav file of a short sequence of two calls from this morning, as well as a
spectrogram. Interested in comments about the clip, as well as if this is a
good format to upload fun stuff to look at.

CORRECTION - Re: ADMIN: Re: [nfc-l] NFCs on Facebook

2014-09-30 Thread Christopher T. Tessaglia-Hymes
As pointed out by Corey Husic and recognized by Rob Fergus, there was already
another Facebook Group called Nocturnal Flight Calls. In light of this, Rob has
dropped his group. Please target the one that Corey had already created in 2009
for sharing flight call discussion. This is here:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/246849955435/

Again, hopefully, this will be a supplement to NFC-L, not a replacement.

Thanks and good birding!

Sincerely,
Chris T-H

RE:[nfc-l] Thrush drop this morning

2014-09-30 Thread Rob Fergus
After reviewing the 5am-6:35am portion of my recording last night, I had:

Swainson’s Thrush—310 NFCs (easily 100+ individuals—53 individuals before they
started coming fast and furious)
Gray-cheeked Thrush—10 NFCs and individuals
Gray-cheeked Thrush/Bicknell’s Thrush—1NFC, one of those steep sloped
descending calls that doesn’t get much over 4kHz in peak frequency.
Veery—2 NFCs and individuals
Black-throated Blue Warbler—8 NFCs (5 individuals)
Tseep—5 NFCS (presumed Blackpoll), 2 NFCs shorter, possible Bay-breasted
Chipping Sparrow—10 NFCs (8 individuals)
Savannah Sparrow—1 NFC
Indigo Bunting—4 NFCs and individuals

A handful of others I’m still working on :-)

Maximum thrush calling was from about 6:20-6:30am with 195 NFCs

Stopped recording at 6:35am with first Carolina Wren song of the morning.
