Thank you very much for your code. Both types of the stationary come out
smoothly. There is however a small bug in it.
I need a different stationary starting from every second page of my
letter. If my file contains 4 letters consisting of 8 pages, his means
the following:
letter 1 -- page 1 -- stationary-1.pdf
letter 1 -- page 2 -- stationary-2.pdf
letter 2 -- page 1 -- stationary-1.pdf
letter 2 -- page 2 -- stationary-2.pdf
...
The code, however, does the following:
letter 1 -- page 1 -- stationary-1.pdf
letter 1 -- page 2 -- stationary-2.pdf
letter 2 -- page 1 -- stationary-2.pdf
letter 2 -- page 2 -- stationary-2.pdf
...
That's to say, there is only one sheet with stationary-1, all other
pages are printed on stationary-2.
Do you see a possibility to adapt this?

There is actually a nice small tool TeXML (at sourceforge) that takes
care of this problem. It allows you to use an XML to issue TeX commands,
and then converts those commands into TeX (or LaTeX or ConText). It
takes care of white space.
I am one of those people who likes to stick to XML tools, who likes to
convert a tree to a tree. I was wondering the best way to do this. It
seems that using TeXML is the best way. I just wanted to make sure there
was not a more direct way in ConTeXt.

comment these lines; (near line 402 ). probably the support for hebrew

[NTG-context] customizing headers/footers first page
I poured over the documentation last night, and I want to make sure I reached the right conclusion in thinking that there is no way to put a different header/footer on the first page in ConTeXt. I know that you can suppress the header/footer by various means, such as: \setupheaders[state=high] % or \setuphead[chapter][header=empty] \chapter But I don't believe you can acutally put a different header on the first page, such as: First Page Header == Here is the body text for the first page. Rest Header = Here is the body text for the rest of the chapter Also, is there any way to do things with the last page in a section? By do things, I mean set different page dimmensions or set up different headers/footers. I am asking these questions because I am coming from fo, and I am looking for the closest ways to mimic its formatting. [NTG-context] texfont problem on windows
I'm using the minimal windows installation of ConTeXt, texsync'ed today. The vptovf.exe program as used by the texfont script seems to have a version mismatch. It throws an error saying that it can't find tl80kpse.dll. In fact the version in the minimal tree is tl90kpse.dll. This means that texfont can't install new fonts, since no virtual font files are created. I'm sure I can work around this either by updating my local vptovf.exe or finding the relevant dll on the web somewhere, but it should probably be fixed in the tree if possible. Thanks! If your document is already a PDF with A4 pages in it, you might use the
following command to arrange the pages:
texexec --pdfcombine --combination=2*2 inputfile.pdf --result=outputfile
This approach is meant for more than two pages per sheet.
Yet another approach could be
texexec --pdfarrange --paper=a5a4 --print=2up --result=outputfile
inputfile.pdf
As the last two texexec statements work on pdf files, the extension has
to be stated for the inputfile.
For the option paper all DIN papersizes from A0 to A9 can be used.
There is an article published in the MAPS28/2002. This issue of the MAPS
will be free for downloading in the next days.

[NTG-context] encoding problem
Was this problem solved? If not, the problem may be in not loading a map file;
typescripts take care of this.
btw, one you see the light, typescripts are not that hard, see examples in wiki,
Bill M's font page and Adam L's myways.

I'm working on some XSL stylesheets for translating XML documents into
Context. Although I've read the document Fonts in Context and
understood that one could use typescripts for managing fonts, in the
context of my stylesheets I'd rather like to stick to the
\definebodyfont command, because so far it works and I'm a bit confused
about all those indirections one has to use when defining typescripts.
The only thing which doesn't seem to work are font encodings. Please,
take a look at the following document:

Defining the font directly with \definefont leads to a
texnansi-encoded table of characters, so that I could use the special
German umlaut characters (which is my intention, of course). The
definition of the font with \definebodyfont produces a default-encoded
table with characters, which are *not* texnansi-encoded, because all the
umlaut characters are missing. At least using Windows XP, TexLive 2004
distribution (MikTeX). I don't understand why this happens for two reasons:
1. Both commands (\definebodyfont and \definefont) use the same synonym
for the font, with an explicitely defined texnansi-encoding.
2. The default encoding of the whole document was set to texnansi.
It is getting even more disturbing when I'm setting the body font size
to 12pt. (Using the command \setupbodyfont[12pt]). Then both tables are
showing a texnansi-encoded font. What has font size to do with encodings?
Since I don't want to use a body font size of 12pt in all of my
documents, only to be able to use German umlaut characters, any hints to
what I'm doing wrong here would be appreciated very much.

Leon Zlajpah should probably be changed to Leon \v{Z}lajpah (or lajpah
if in Unicode) (I suppose the information by itself is correct.)
(There's a comment Use of code page 852 in patterns, which probably
remained from the old good DOS times.)
Default encoding? 98% use cp1250, some Linux people use latin2. (well,
maybe there are still freaks somewhere on this planet using cp852 :)
UTF 8 should be(come) standard, but it is coming pretty slowly.
But writing UTF8 as the default encoding in ConTeXt should be OK.
How can I try it (hyphenation)? I did

One more question about language specific issues: we always write

2.2. some other subsection
2.2.1. some subsubsection
(with a dot before the space after every (sub)section). What is the best
place to store the default settings to? (For all the other Slovenian
users as well.)

[NTG-context] book on context?
Is there actually a hard-copy book for ConTeXt? I am using the PDF, 300+ page manual, and it is rather difficult to continually navigate wtih a PDF viewer. I know I could print out the PDF document, but by the time I figure in toner cost and paper cost and the cost to bind it at a local shop, it would be worth it for me to buy a book.
