there is in mkiv a mechanism for auto-break support

however, i prefer to handle this all at once, so you (an others) need to

also, more complex hyphenation exceptions are possible in luatex;

Re: [NTG-context] how to change 'figure 1.1' to '?? 1.1'

2007-12-07 Thread Dalyoung Jeong

Dear Mojca and Wolfgang,

Thank you for the comments on lang-kor.tex.

I didn't test, but I would say: forget the dirty hacks and simply
write

\setuplabeltext [\s!ko]   [\v!figure=??]
It might not work in pdfTeX, but for XeTeX and LuaTeX it should do
the job. Once you do those changes, feel free to ask again if you
have problems (and don't forget to ask Hans to include the
translations).

I modify the files following your advice.
It removes the middle variable \koencoding and make the file
simpler. And I don't need to use \koencoding{\enableencoding[cjk-
uni]}. It worked fine, also. But I'd like to use \setuphead for
chapter, section, etc because our writing style of head is different
from that of english.

I uploaded it in KTUG board to be checked by them, since it may be
need more corrections.

Thank you again.

By the way, do you completely resolve the lmtypewriter10-regular
problem? which was discussed before in the list?

Yesterday, after I reinstalled TeXlive and updated ConTeXt, I got
kpathsea: Running mktextfm lmtypewriter10-regular message. As a
temporary method,  I renamed mktextfm.
I confirmed that such font file is in texlive opentype font folder
and lm*.map files in map/dvipdfm folder.

Is there anything that I have to do more? I couldn't see the solution
in the list.

Thank you for reading.

 Well, to be honest, I wanted to ask you to do something similar to
 what you did with enco-utf :) once you finish the mkiv interface.
 That is, to auto-generate the list of feature mappings, so that the

 \defineotflanguagesynonym[slovenian][slv]
 \defineotfscriptsynonym[latin][latn]
 then, language=dutch can switch on the ij ligature in LM in XeTeX as well :)

hm, first of all i don't want to see otf in any name of a command; today
otf is the gospel but tomorrow ... after all, mkiv can have features for
type one and tfm too

concerning language and script names ... of course there will be some
standard, and it may mean that for xetex there will be a huge list of
such mappings; however, i prefer to do the xetex part once the luatex
(mkiv) part is stable; then we can see what subset of functionality can
be provided there; keep in mind that in luatex i can be way more
tolerant with names (for instance, name:lmroman10-regular and
name:lmroman10regular and name:lmroman10reg can all be supported and the
same is true for features ... smallcaps Small Caps Smallcaps ...

 (At least someone needs to fight for the rights of XeTeX users :) :) :) :)

sure

 i more or less expect users to use one or the other
 engine and then become familiar with its specific interfaces

 That's true when people use LaTeX :)
 That fame of ConTeXt (write once, use everywhere) should not be
 dropped at once :(

we should distinguish between typesetting related features and engine
specific things; we should also keep in mind that some things simply are
too different in engines which makes supporting both a pain; so, in
practice there will be engine dependent features not being supported
(for the sake of shareability or simply because implementing similar
mechanisms takes ages); the same is true for pdftex/luatex ... of course
pdftex will be supported, but take hz/protruding ... in mkiv i will
completely redo that because it has different datastructures

 anyhow, a next version of mkiv will support more verbose options,

 script=slovenian
 smallcaps=true

 Great :)

 basically anything in the script, language and feature hashes
 (lowercased and de-spaced when compared)

 What about
 ['fin2'] = 'Terminal Forms #2',
 ['fin3'] = 'Terminal Forms #3',
 ['ccmp'] = 'Glyph Composition/Decomposition',
 ? :) :) :)

Glyph Composition/Decomposition=true
Glyph Composition/Decomposition=true
Glyph Composition Decomposition=true
GlyphCompositionDecomposition=true

 (Not to be considered a serious question of course :)

well, it's the way smallcaps=true is handled -)

 something numbers=oldstyle could be supported but i see no real reason
 for it since then we end up in endless lists of possibilities (given all
 kind of combinations)

 Some examples:
 numbers=monospaced (+tnum)
 numbers=proportional (+pnum)
 numbers=lowercase/oldstyle (+onum)
 numbers=uppercase/lining (+lnum)
 numbers=[no]slashedzero (+zero)

too messy, esp if one wants proportional uppercase lining numbers with a
slashed zero; of course one can have duplicate keys but then one also
needs a negation thing ... i prefer the featuresets

 letters=normal
 letters=uppercase (+case)

Hi Vyatcheslav

Humble I am not yet using Luatex...

Still, the problem with not processing references coud be related to
the utility files. If you process a document with \setuparranging
more than once, you loose the correct information in those files.
If you want to produce a booklet you could say

\setuppapersize[A5][A4]
\setuppagenumbering[alternative=doublesided]

%\setuparranging[2UP]

\starttext
...
\stoptext

Run texexex with the arranging switched off.
Run texexec once with the arranging switched on.

 create A5 pages and then impose them using nice Acrobat plugin.
 However, I don't know how to make Luatex to process left and right

 2) I was always scared by explanation of \showlayout on texshow:

 A) params: (\paperwidth=\backspace+\makeupwidth+\cutspace)
 backspace = width of inner margin
 cutspace = width of outer margin (if 0 then = backspace!)
 ...

  and so on. It looks like a program, not manual, and I never
 understood it, despite it explains very important concept, missed

[NTG-context] [Dev-luatex] beta 0.20.1 released

2007-12-07 Thread Taco Hoekwater

Hi all,

I have just uploaded the archives for luatex 0.20.1. This
is a bugfix release for wednesday's beta, and it fixes
the following issues:

* texlua was broken on Solaris because the some C header
   files were loaded in the wrong order.
* os.tmpdir() now accepts an argument, making it easier
   to use. It now generates more unique filenames when
   it is called repeatedly in one run.
* The --luaconly commandline switch is now documented
   in the --help text.
* The new extended hyphenation exceptions were severely
   broken.
* \pdfprotrudechars could cause luatex to abort with an
   assertion failure.
* There was a bug in the \span code that could cause endless
   loops.
* The simple forms of \leaders were messed up on windows
   because a variable was not properly initialized.
* Non-grouped \textdir commands created invalid output.
* e-TeX's pseudo files were not closed properly in ini mode.
* The luatex.web now weaves properly again.
* I made some small improvements to the manual.

I have uploaded source and linux/win32 binaries to

  http://foundry.supelec.fr/projects/luatex/

Have fun,

Taco

Thans for the effort.

 By the way, do you completely resolve the lmtypewriter10-regular problem?
 which was discussed before in the list?

No. Perhaps \nullfont hnstead of lmtypewriter10-regular would help ... :)
I have no idea when the default font is triggered at all.

 Yesterday, after I reinstalled TeXlive and updated ConTeXt, I got kpathsea:
 Running mktextfm lmtypewriter10-regular message. As a temporary method, I
 renamed mktextfm.

Just change
MKTEXTFM = 0
in texmf.cnf

 I confirmed that such font file is in texlive opentype font folder and
 lm*.map files in map/dvipdfm folder.

It's a weird situation. ConTeXt checks if tfm file is present first,
then, if a font with that name exists, and finally if an otf file
exists. So two failures are needed before the dummy useless font has
been found. That should be fixed, but ...

However, this still only affects the speed (slows it down), not the
functionality itself.

 Is there anything that I have to do more? I couldn't see the solution in the
 list.

To achive what?

[NTG-context] bug in new context/luatex?

This simple code causes context/luatex to freeze on my linux box.
Could anyone reproduce it to make sure the problem is not on my side.

 Hans,

 How hard is to implement a --downgrade switch (or --upgrade=version) in
 ctxtools? It would be as simple as:

 1. Go to http://foundry.supelec.fr/frs/?group_id=14, parse for the
 particular date and download the appropriate files, or
 2. Try all files tmf, exa, win|ppc|?? one by one, and download the ones
 that are available,

 and then unzip the files and remake the formats. This would make going
 back to an old version really easy. I don't know if packet managers for
 linux like apt-get can downgrade to an earlier version. In any case, this
 will be a very useful feature.

eventually the minimal installer should be able to do this

Re: [NTG-context] booklet set up

2007-12-07 Thread Wolfgang Schuster
2007/12/6, Vyatcheslav Yatskovsky [EMAIL PROTECTED]:
 Hello,

 I'm creating a textbook as a booklet (two A5 per A4), and have difficulties.

 1) If I use imposition command \setuparranging, then Luatex doesn't process
 references. I know, there are workarounds, but I prefer to create A5 pages
 and then impose them using nice Acrobat plugin. However, I don't know how to
 make Luatex to process left and right pages differently (for future
 imposing). If I set left margin, then it is really left through the
 document, but I need it to be on the right every second page, and vice versa.
 How to achieve it?

What is wrong with

\setuppapersize[A5][A5]
\setuppagenumbering[alternative=doublesided]
\starttext
...
\stoptext

 (I tried 'mirrored' option in \setuppapersize, and got funny result) ;)

\setuppapersize is not meant for doubleside layout

 2) I was always scared by explanation of \showlayout on texshow:

 Horizontal: (if singleside then outside is at right and inside is at left)
 ===
 width = width of text area
   middle: automatic calculation consider A) params
   fit: automatic calculation consider A)+B) params
   dimension: cutspace should be 0 and is calculated according to backspace

 A) params: (\paperwidth=\backspace+\makeupwidth+\cutspace)
 backspace = width of inner margin
 cutspace = width of outer margin (if 0 then = backspace!)
 ...

  and so on. It looks like a program, not manual, and I never understood it,
 despite it
 explains very important concept, missed on Wiki -- 'fit' and 'middle'
 options. Can
 someone throw a light on these?

 Best regards,
 Vyatcheslav

You can also create a second document and impose your booklet in this
document, I can send such a file from me.

  1.) The second page starts counting at 1, while counting should start

 Hi Mojca,

 maybe I'm a little bit late with my answer

Hello Wolfgang,

I hardcoded the number when I needed it, but you proposal is very
useful for the next time when I will need it again. I only need to
figure out where to store it on the wiki/texshow, so that it will be
possible to find it agin. (This still cannot handle the problem if I
wanted to number last page of frontmatter, but I don't need it at
the moment.)

 but I stumpled across this
 question after I was searching for something in the archive and I found
 the following solution.

 [...]
 \startbodymatter
 \page[odd] % only \page give a empty before the \section
 \setuppagenumber[number=1]
 \setupfootertexts[page \pagenumber{} of \lastpagenumber] % no \totalnumber...

Thanks a lot :)

 \dorecurse{10}{\subject{real content} \dorecurse{\recurselevel}{\input knuth}
 }
 \stopbodymatter

 Can you make a small example, I tried the following example on the

 I made some tests: In some cases |-| still works (it looks to me as
 if the priorities in the linebraking rules were mixed up?! But this
 can't be ...).

 Thus it is not so easy to make a representative example.
 But look at the following, simulating a real example:

 \usetypescript[postscript][ec]
 \setupencoding[default=ec]
 \mainlanguage[de]
 \enableregime[utf]

 \showframe

 \setupbodyfont[postscript,14.5pt]

 \setupfootnotedefinition[command=

 \setnumber[footnote]{217}% this is broken, the next FN-number should
 be 218

 text\footnote{S. aber zu einer allgemeinen Regulierung von
 Selbstverpflichtungen und normersetzenden Absprachen §§\,35, 36 UGB|-|

 §§\,130 - 136 IGB (3.\,Teil 1.\,Kapitel 6.\,Abschnitt). }.

 \stoptext

 Now the line breaking is as such:

Your new lines end like this,

 218
 allgemeinen Regulierung von Selbstverpflichtungen und normer-
 chen §§ 35, 36 UGB-KomE und die dazu gehörige Begründung UGB-
 wie §§ 100 -136 IGB (3. Teil 1. Kapitel 6.  Abschnitt).

right?

I still get this, from the latest context 2007.12.06 22:52 MKII:

 Four months ago the same text came out like this:
 218
  .iner allgemeinen Regulierung von Selbstverpflund normerset-
  §§ 35, 36 UGB-KomE und die dazu gehörige Begründung UGB-KomE
 136 IGB (3. Teil 1. Kapitel 6. Abschnitt).

 Help please!!

I also tried with 2007.08.09, with identical results. Together,
this hints at a difference in one of your local files that has
crept in over the past four months.

If you can't find it, try running with \loggingall and email
me that (zipped!), so I can compare your stuff with mine.

Best wishes,
Taco

That's odd, I believe the 'sigaltstack' code came from Jonathan Kew,
who is definately on a Mac himself. What was the previous beta you
compiled yourself, do you remember? Otherwise, maybe Arthur knows.

(The struct sigaltstack is supposed to be defined in the signal.h
header.)

Best wishes,
Taco

Yes, I also noticed that the list is a bit odd. But then again, not all
comitees in ISO have representatives from all of the states. It would
probably be best to find a more reliable source for that info.

 * Non-grouped \textdir commands created invalid output.
 * e-TeX's pseudo files were not closed properly in ini mode.
 * The luatex.web now weaves properly again.
 * I made some small improvements to the manual.

 I have uploaded source and linux/win32 binaries to

  http://foundry.supelec.fr/projects/luatex/

 Have fun,

 Taco

 Hello,
 With luatex-0.20.0 and ConTeXt-2007.12.6 a hyphen is introduced in the

 \useURL[ref][http://gaston/]\from[ref]
 \stoptext

This is because of the pretty special handling that takes place
in \hyphenatedurl, Context has to prevent luatex from inserting
its own hyphen points because of the trickery it uses. The
following works (it is not the nicest solution, though. I suspect
Hans will come up with something cleaner):

\def\obeyhyphens
   {\def\obeyedspace {\hskip\interwordspace}%
\def\controlspace
   {\hskip\zeropoint\hbox{\normalcontrolspace}\hskip\zeropoint}%
\lefthyphenmin=255 \righthyphenmin=255 % these are new

which is why we have oldstyle=yes
